because it's already established. There's nothing to debate there. This guy goes to jail for a long time and isn't let near the internet or any other anonymous communications when he gets out. Problem solved.
We're still debating the cop's situation becuase he got off scott free when he obviously shouldn't have. At the least he should be fired and never allowed to work as a cop again. As it stands our "Tough on Crime" outlook and unwillingness to address gun violence has left cops above the law in most shootings.
he just wants to get the electoral votes of the right wing parts of California so he can push an agenda of low taxes, fewer social services and fewer worker protections. As an added bonus California's strong consumer protection laws benefit us all since they're too large a market to ignore, but this would split that market up into manageable chunks diluting their effect.
California & New York are more or less the last bastions of civilization in the USA. They're the one place that was more or less untouched by Tea Party style trickle down low or no regulation politics. This would suck for the entire United States (including rural California) except for the billionaire class.
Bottom line, we don't need to break up because we have nothing in common. 99% of us are members of the working class. That more than anything is what binds us, makes a whole. And it's also why guys like this want to split us up.
with 'no'. This is why you don't leave medical science (or any important public service) up to private companies. The profit motive screws everything up. That's fine for Twinkies but not so fine for medicine. Hell, 1/3 the reason Marijuana's still illegal is big Pharma fighting to keep it (the other 2/3rds are private prisons and vaguely tough on crime politicians, respectively)
and more to do with getting businesses to buy all the hardware and software needed to do it. Chip + Sig was cheaper and easier to implement. As for what's different about America, we are positively _loath_ to spend on infrastructure of any kind (except private airports for the ultra rich, but I digress).
they've finally got within striking distance of Intel in single threaded performance (e.g. within 10%). And they blow Intel out of the water on Multi-threaded performance except for the highest end of Intel parts (e.g. the 7980XE outperforms a 1950x but it's 2x the price). Assuming this is right there won't be much point to buying Intel for gamers and (most) workstation users. The Ryzens we have today produce more stable frame rates (e.g. fewer 1% &.1% lows) thanks to the much better multi threading. Give them about 20-30% more single threaded performance with that advantage and it's going to be an AMD generation.
they fool white men into railing against a few loud and mean spirited feminists while they're laughing at you all the way to the bank. They're making fools of you and me. We trade our economic future for the promise of some nebulous cultural victory.
with economic ones. On anything that really matters (the economy) the media is hard right. Especially CNN, MSNBC, NBC ABC CBS. Once in a blue moon the Post or Times gets to run some left wing economics, usually with a well known lefty guest editor. But even they don't do reports on stuff that matters.
And yes, right wing identity politics are a thing. They convince white men they have a "culture" instead of an economic future to defend. Antifa is a made up bit of nonsense sold to you so you'll forget about all those pesky economic issues and focus on an imaginary boogyman out to steal your rights. America is divided because the ruling class _wants_ us to be divided. Don't be fooled. Join the rest of your working class brothers and lets fix this.
the modern American left isn't about any of that. They're about sound economic policy, to wit:
a. Medicare for all.
b. End the wars.
c. College for all.
d. New New Deal.
e. Infrastructure spending.
f. Living Wage.
The right likes to find our crazies and give them megaphones. It's easy to do because the American right wing owns the media. Ask yourself how often you hear a serious discussion of left wing economic ideas on TV. You don't. Don't be fooled by the right wing media and their cheap identity politics.
There's the Justice Democrats. There's Bernie. There's Liz Warren. We had Alan Grayson until the 1%ers burried him because he was a credible threat that didn't back down (and had a few minor skeletons). There was Al Franklin until the right wing of the party ate him alive for a few dirty jokes (mostly so they could eliminate him from competition for the presidency).
The left wing is trying to take the party back from the Clintonians. Show up to your primary and help them do it.
since Reagan, so I'm not surprised. They've taken a top down approach to government, and bought it all.
Mark my words, everybody on this forum, you're next. They Uber rich (pun intended) are coming for your wages, your benefits, your retirement and your property. And why shouldn't they? You keep going to the polls and giving it to them.
for outsourcers. There are provisions designed to protect their investments. The lack of those protections is one of the main things keeping jobs here in the states. TPP is no friend of me, or anyone else who works in tech. And this being/. that should be most of us.
See here. This in turn makes it easier to outsource. The reason TPP was and is so unpopular is that it's designed to make it easier to outsource jobs. Especially tech jobs, like the ones people here on/. have.
TPP is no friend of the American worker. Which is why I'm not at all surprised a wealthy plutocrat like Trump would favor it. What I am surprised is how much the Trump presidency is beginning to look like the Hilary presidency. If you'll recall she was in favor of TPP until pressure from the Bernie wing made her drop it.
a. Paris Hilton comes to mind. The son of one of the Koch bros only 'works' if you count runny phony baloney businesses set up by his dad as 'working'.
b. Read my post again. Crops don't grow in the winter.
c. Again, read my post again. The subtext is in the phrase "If you don't have a job, you don't have a place in society". It's there whether you realize it or not. It's even more powerful if you _don't_ realize it since it's hit you subconsciously; e.g. without you even knowing it.
d. Insults are fun and all, but they don't solve your problems or mine. Wake up.
I don't think Bernie Sanders or Liz Warren want to rule the world. I don't much indication they want to tell people how to live (that SESTA thing not withstanding, which I think was more a bad vote than a moralistic one). I do see them telling the well to do that they need to pay their share for the civilization they enjoy. But that's not telling them how to live, that's telling them to pay their damn dues.
He says you can't force Reddit to post hate speech. You seem to be agreeing with that. You say he's got no right to stop you from running a Reddit like site that allows hate speech posts. He seem to be agreeing with you on that.
The subtext I keep getting on this thread over and over is that Reddit is an opponent of free speech because they are going to ban/filter hate speech. But I haven't heard any evidence of that. Until Reddit says the Government should ban/filter hate speech then they're not knocking out anyone's soap box. But to be fair, they may very well have said that and I missed it. If so, can you post a citation? Thanks!
kinda like how blacks used to stage sit ins. What they did was by no means easy. They went through a great deal of expense, stress and difficulty not just to prove a point but to set a precedent that their rights could be protected.
And the bakery wasn't targeted for it's religious beliefs. They were targeted because they used those religious beliefs to target other people. Hell, until the 70s the Mormons used to do it with blacks. It took effort to get them to see the error of their ways.
not from private companies and individuals. You have a right to say what you want without government interference. You can go to a park and as long as you're not disturbing the peace say and do whatever you want. Remember the Illinois Nazi's? The Blues Bros committed assault and in the real world would eventually get charged. But what you do _not_ have a right to is to make me or anyone else let you come to our private property and set up your protest. I couldn't show up at an Apple store and start protesting labor relations in China in the store. I could, however, do it on the public sidewalk.
you can't threaten to kill somebody. You can't incite others to do the same. We've long since established that words can and do turn into action. The first amendment is not a blank check.
on their site. It's also fine by me if they don't. But we need to recognize that words can and do turn into actions. Especially among radicalized populations like far right racists. Things like Doxing, Swatting, etc.
in a theater. Free speech comes with responsibility. Hate speech can and does cross the line to incitement to violence. When folks start questioning if only somebody would rid them of that meddlesome priest it's time for the government to step in.
Furthermore Free Speech is about what the government does. It's not censorship if a private corporation doesn't want to do business with Stormfront or the like. Racist is not a protected class, and unless you're arguing it should be you have to live with the free market deciding who to do business with and who not to. If you don't like it, start your own website and hosting provider. Again, it's a free market.
between cash going away and this kind of tracking petty crime is more or less going to become impossible. I suppose you could mug me for my shoes (my cell phone gets shut off if you steal it). But unless I'm wearing $300 Nikes what's the point?
What's funny is that even as crime rates plummet the "Tough on Crime" politics don't go away. Not sure about China, but a recent poll showed Crime was the #2 concern for Americans, only topped by health care.

about "just" 11 days uptime. As a Windows users I'd like to say, welcome to our world baby.

They've been spending on STEM while we've been cutting back in favor of tax cuts (83% for the top 1%, but I guess the 99% got 17% of them).

it was bad for workers, and Trump ran on a pro worker campaign. It'll lead to more outsourcing, which was his #1 issue.

if you don't like it, get Racists added as a protected class. Good luck with that.
