  1. Palm Reliability on Palm m100s - A Pattern of Defects? · · Score: 0

I've owned a Palm VIIx for over a year now, and it has never given me problems. It's basically a Palm III series outfitted with wireless web clipping capabilities, and it's my understanding that the III/V series Palms are equally robust. I've never had to calibrate the digitizer since I opened it and even now the graffiti is still relatively accurate (despite having been dropped). I bought a friend of mine a Handspring Visor Neo and it's been working flawlessly for him as well. It's probably a problem only experienced by the m100/105 line. This is quite sad though, as it is the line that Palm is marketing towards the general masses. Makes you wonder where the company is headed.

  2. Social Online Games and Consoles on Everquest Coming To the PS2 · · Score: 0

I don't know if anyone has played online games that required chatting on a console system, but talking there is a tremendous pain.

I played Phantasy Star Online for awhile on the Dreamcast. Even with all the chat shortcuts provided by the game, it was a pain in the ass to talk to other people.

I highly doubt PS2 players will play on the same servers as the PC ones. Their inability to chat properly will make them social outcasts. Who wants to hang out with people who are just going to spam what they have macro'd, or talk by typing with their joystick?

Sure, you can buy a keyboard for your PS2, but at that point, why don't you just play EQ on the PC?

    Boom. Oops, damn.

  4. Re:Stopping because of ethics on First Human Clone Eight Weeks Along · · Score: 1

Once the technique is perfected, we'll have a supermarket of acceptable clone sources. Which person do you wish to clone? The smart one or the dumb one? The beautiful one or the plain one? The white one or the black one?

We already have that with test tube babies and sperm banks. Potential moms can already go into these places and pick a portfolio of their "perfect dad" and use the sperm from that donor.

That ability is already there. What cloning does is give infertile couples another way out. Up until now, if somehow the female was infertile, the couple either had to adopt, or she would be forced to carry the fertilized egg from a source outside of her and her husband. Cloning will allow those couples to create a unique child using only their DNA, without outside DNA factoring into the process.
