    That can easily be fixed. In international politics, power has a way of voiding justice.

    Since when does the FBI have the right to wiretap it's citizens?

    When the government stopped serving citizens, and citizens started serving the government.

    When the desire to live unmonitored became seen as the desire to commit crimes without being held accountable for those crimes.

    When preventing crimes from happening became more important than bringing criminals to justice.

    When the cowardice of fear replaced the confidence of individual rights.

    I think the bankruptcy of Enron (and the near bankruptcy of other thieving traders) says more about capitalism than you would like to admit. If their business was based on actual supply-and-demand (rather than fraud) they would still be profitable.

    Exactly. The problem with democracy is that is believes in the lie of human equality - that all people are intelligent, able to articulate their interests, and able to discuss them reasonable to come to a consensus.
    In fact, most humans are just a cut above a herd of bison. The elite, intelligent ones will always rule. We should shed this pretense of democracy and recognize the true nature of human society.
    True freedom is the freedom to obey those who are destined to lead. Without strong leaders the herd will trample themsleves off a cliff.

    What makes you think the state exists to protect individual rights? You exist to serve the interest of the state. Fascism was not defeated in WWII, it simply got a make-over. Fascism is the de-facto ideology of most major states. All other goals are subordinated to national security.

    Is this just a clever way of calling me a fascist? There are fascists everywhere. Fascism is a state of mind, not a political party. Fascists believe in the supremacy of the state, in patriotism, in obedience, in submission to natural leaders. Some people are fascists and don't even know it. It's my just to enlighten them.

    It is the function of the people to support their government and its efforts to protect our national security. It is not the function of the government to represent the so-called "people" via corrupt self serving professional politicians. These representatives are more interested in foreign campaign contributions than they are in standing up for our country. September 11 has been a wake-up call to those who believe in national security and national unity. We may be seeing an end to the anti-Vietnam syndrome of whiny politically correct liberals weakening our national resolve and the very fabric of a patriotic society.     He mashed together various American folk tunes, marching, music, the works. Did this in the analog era, which involved writing sheet music late into the evening. Eventually suffered a breakdown from overwork (had a day job as an insurance company executive and I guess caffeine had not yet been invented). His spirit must be pleased. Best thing to happen to him since Frank Zappa paid tribute to his influence.

    Slashdotters should stop whining about the big bad evil government and learn to grow up and take some responsibility. You are like children complaining that the adults are invading your secret hiding place. The threat to national security is real. We have already lost thousands of lives HERE right in the US and untold millions of dollars of property damage. You want the ability to hide behind your keyboards without paying the price for your privileged lifestyle. You want to be anonymous and live outside the sphere of society, fine go build yourself a cabin in Montana. You want the privilege of cutting edge high tech you need to accept the responsibility that goes along with it - including the mechanisms law enforcement requires to maintain some sembelence of an orderly society.
