The Lone Gunmen Are Dead
Mike Perry (And many, many others) writes: "In an astounding move after the cancellation of the show, Chris Carter killed
off the Lone Gunmen in tonight's episode of the X-Files. After a short
introduction that re-introduced the group as trying to save "a world that isn't too kind
to idealists," the episode progressed until the Gunmen realized their destiny
with Langley's quotes about Joey Ramone, and then Byer's quote "We never gave
up, and we never will. In the end, if that's all they can say about us, it'll
do." The episode then built to an ending where the Gunmen group gave their
lives to thwart a bio-terrorist financed by a business tycoon.I don't know about you guys, but back in the prime of the X-Files, these guys
were as close a role model as I could find on television as a kid. I was
deeply disappointed with the cancellation of the show (sure the pilot sucked,
but the next few episodes were good). I feel glad that these characters were
allowed to retire with dignity before the end of the show."
CD: Oops, sorry about the spoiler, when I scheduled the post I miscalculated the timing. I know, I'm evil. I promise I won't ruin the next 4 episodes or however many they have left.
i live on the west coast, i was about to watch it, thanks for the spoiler warnings. HOW FUCING STUPID ARE YOU. Thanks for ruining the episode.

Thank you for ruining the episode for us on the west cost!
Idjits.
The cake is a pie
Yeah not since Sneakers had we seen real hacking.
we'll all just pretend this never happenned when the next x-files movie comes out...
Great. Seeing as how the show isn't run at the same time for ALL timezones, you've probably spoiled it for at least 2.
Never mind those outside the country.
Real smart.
I for one don't watch the show anymore, and did find this interesting. However I am sure that all those who haven't seen it yet (ever hear of time zones?) will really appreciate this "news item" ;)

Jesus Christ, how about a spoiler warning next time? I don't think it's even shown on the west coast yet, much less for the international folks or TiVo addicts like myself...
that mulder might show up for the funeral. after all, he was the one that brought them to the party.

It was really hard to watch, but I'm really glad they tied the loose ends well, and showed them the respect they deserved.

i wonder if anyone else lives on the west coast, like me, that just had their episode spoiled.
cat
I suppose I'll just go burn the tape I had programmed to record, instead of watching the final episode after I get home from work. Thanks slashdot.
Way to go, fuckmonkeys. Hey by the way, Darth Vader was Luke's father.
Not because of the cheesy way they killed them off, but because I had taken it for granted that these three goofballs would always be there.
It was kinda nice in the part where they had to cover up for their lack of equipment, blaming it on upgrades and giving them all away to charity, when for real they had spent it all on finding Yves.
Jimmy also made a nice comeback from the Lone Gunmen era. Man, I really really wished Mulder was back for this episode. He had a real bond with these guys. And I believe with Lone Gunmen gone, and with the curtains coming down next month, one of the most hated/loved series is leaving us all.

You SHOULD delete the headline lest anyone else have their evening ruined by this, or at the VERY LEAST issue a goddamn apology, preferably in cash form.

Oops, couldn't be bothered.
If I were watching these last episodes as they came out (instead of taping for viewing in a month or two) I would be TICKED OFF that one of the most popular sci-fi series had a major plot point published on Slashdot before it's seen by all of the continental US. (As it is, I'm only watching the rest of the series out of loyalty to the original 7 years I loved the show.)
Yup, that story was posted at 8:20 pm Pacific Daylight Time, 40 minutes before X-files starts.
Before I can see the episode in Seattle (major /. hangout, I believe), the death of some major characters is put on the front page.
Sheesh, it should have been in the [Read More] section with a spoiler warning. Publish it, but give me a chance to experience it first.
There will be a lynch mob of angry west coast X-Files fans outside your window in 20 minutes.
I guess it was bound to happen. What I want to know is why they all went at once. I surprised Carter didn't try to make some sort of thing whereby they were reduced until there was the "Lone Gunman." This was the 5th-to-last episode, so they could have gone at the rate of one per episode.
"Evil will always triumph because good is dumb." -- Dark Helmet
In the words of William Shatner: "Get a life people, it's just a TV show!" Jesus...YES there should have been a spoiler warning, but all this uproar because someone gave away the ending to a show?
I haven't watched X-files in years, but I caught the fist few minutes, after watching Malcom in the middle. My first thought was wow, x-files has really gone down the tubes, they're re-using lone gunman footage... I always liked Frohicke(sp?) the best.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered. My life is my own.
...that /. is finally back to posting some real news for nerds!
(stuff that matters, y'know!)
I'm done with sigs. Sigs are lame.
Just one more voice calling the supposed ubergeeks at slashdot a bunch of dipshits for failing to consider timezone differences and TiVo users.
Way to go, nitwits.
Course, I stopped giving a shit about 4 seasons ago.
Nice going chris.... Thanks for ruining it for those of us living in different timezones, or use a pvr/VCR. Course it was pretty obvious who was going to die. They couldn't really kill off any of the other characters. But that would have made for the nice twist I was hoping for.
Really, how does it feel to be reviled and pitied by so many thousands of strangers?
While I agreed that chrisd really screwed the pooch on this one, who is even watching any more? I stopped watching XFiles years ago. Two or three seasons and it was time to put a fork in it. There were about a thousand different threads of conspiracy, "fact", rumor, and nonsense and it was snowballing too fast for any sane person to keep up. Every show contradicted the last. In the end, there was simply never any single solid plot. The entire damned show's plot changed every week.
Who cares?
looks like someone dropped the ball in posting this one so early
oh yeah, spoiler warning!
I'm not a big big fan of the show, I don't even know those guys name, but I got a kick out of the guy who was playing D&D and saying his kung fu was the best.
You know the world is changing when you get dungeons and dragons AND Kevin Mitnick references in one one-hour TV show.
Actually this was mentioned weeks ago on aint-it-cool-news.com. The episode title is "Jump the Shark", a reference to jumptheshark.com.
But then again, I have been living 23 minutes into the future lately. (I watched the Star Trek episode of Futurama with full end credit this morning.)

I live in the UK, and have anxiously been awaiting the end of the X-Files for quite some time.
I have to say, Slashdot is the last place I expected to find a spoiler of this magnitude.
Well, that's it. I'm going to get my news elsewhere from now. Good luck with the great slashdot blackout, because Taco et al have just lost yet another member of the community.
You ever hear of something called the west coast? See, there's this whole other world out there that doesn't get TV shows at the exact same time as YOU do.
I'm also going to join in and state that this was the stupidest thing /. has done in awhile. X Files isn't airing for another goddamn half an hour and you blow it right there in the headline.
And furthermore, tell Jon Katz that it's "spoiler warning" not "spoilage" and stop having him mention the evils of Time Warner AOL when he sold the rights to your story to New Line Films - owned by them.
In fact, slashdot's entire cultural coverge is pretty weak and needs an overhaul.
** http://www.nkhumanrights.or.kr/ ** Human rights in North Korea. 1 million estimated dead from starvation.
I'd be anxious to sweep under the rug any characters featured in a show depicting a near collision with the Twin Towers and a commercial jet. That plot was creepy even when I first saw the show, and thought that could NEVER happen. Interesting to think that's now going to be one of those shows (that episode at least) locked away forever never to see the light again. As far as the actors, those guys were funny, I liked what little I did see of them.
Even John Katz knows enough to put spoiler notices on his articles and hides the meat in the BODY, not the bloody header (never mind putting it in a completely unthoughtful, unoriginal title). For crying out loud Chrisd, thanks for ruining the episode for me.
Just about every other news site out there that deals with TV/movie info knows what spoiler warnings are and how to use them. May I politely suggest that the editors of Slashdot take a peek at Dark Horizons or Trek Today and get a clue.
Not everyone in this world lives by the schedule of the US East coast. Twit.
I liked the Loan Gunmen (Fox didn't give it a chance, what was it 4 or 5 episodes). The episode was very good, up until they got killed. I would liked to have seen them save the world, get new funding, live to fight another day, and continueing with saving the world. Mulder didn't even show up for the furneral!!!!
With X-Files ending, EFC sucking, no order for Futurama, Stargate with only 1 season left (and Daniel done), Andromeda geting worse, Invisiable Man cancled (my favorite), Lexx cancled (it's a good laugh), 7 Days gone, Specail Unit 2 gone.......sci-fi fans have had a really really bad year or so.
The only bright spot is that Enterprise is getting better.

Wow.. what a jackass.. i'm on the east coast working right now, taped the episode. i'm gona start another "Great slashdot BlackOut" just for this one reason. how insensitive can you get..

Hey, you guys on the West Coast, don't take this so hard, you've seen this scene already. It's a straight rip-off from the death-of-Spock scene. Separated by panes of glass...the friends struggle to open the door...but no, can't do that, they're already dead...so we have the mauldin goodbye...at least they didn't say anything about the needs of the many and needs of the few.
Oh, and in the last scene they get buried in Arlington.
a fscking gdbm idiot.
Did it ever occur to you that some people care about things that you don't? Of course it's a TV show, but it's a TV show that a lot of people happen to like. Perhaps you can't relate to enjoying the twists in a story, but for long time fans it is something that they are capable of appreciating, and something that the writers use their craft to portray. Quit being a wet blanket.
When I was a kid, we only had one Darth.
Most people have loathed the characters for years.
Rather than be thrilled that they've been killed off, they're upset on how they found out. Just be happy they're gone!
-- Sorry to those who actually liked them. But I believe I can speak for most of us when I say that I thought they kinda sucked.
Hey, at least Slashdot didn't reveal that in the last scene, our heros are buried in Arlington...
If you guys who're crying about "spoiling" were any bigger babies, it'd be illegal.
GOD DAMN!! I don't care if I get modded down or not, this was fucking stupid!
X-Files isn't coming on for another half hour, yet the HEADLINE to this article spoiled it!
Let me all give you a piece of advice on etiquette: Any time there's a movie or a TV show that people haven't seen yet, DON'T SPOIL IT! Show some consideration! It's okay to review it, just make sure we don't accidentally run across it. At least say 'spoilers ahead!'

I think that this spoiler for those on the west coast rocketed chrisd to jonkatz status. Sure this is probably redundant, but I think we can all now block stories posted by chris as well.
I'm very very serious: I was so fucking shocked by what I saw, it didn't even occur to me to submit it to slashdot. I stopped watching X-Files last season, but I saw on an ad that the Lone Gunman were featured in this ep so I stayed to watch...

You did something incredibly stupid by even POSTING a spoiler story like this, regardless of the timing. What were you thinking?!
But by including the spoilage in the article title they've ensured it gets syndicated to anywhere syndicating Slashdot headlines.

Since the X file have been dying these past few years might as well kill off what is still good!
Overall, I think that the series was great, and it had great potential. As a person with much interest in technology, the three were quite a role model to me, with their publication that wasn't too successful and their "insane" inquiries into stuff that nobody ever talks about. I espically enjoyed the first episode, about domestic terrorism, and they PREVENTED a plane from crashing into the WTC (COINCEDENCE????). The X files, to me, is a great series, and so is Dark Angel, but FOX does a TERRIABLE job at doing the commercials. They make them seem like shows packed with action, and no actual content, while the shows actually do have a lot more content. In the commercial I saw today for the X files, they announced that at least one of them will die, and it was pretty obvious who would die, as with 5 episodes left, they surely couden't kill Scully off.
I don't really mind the spoilage (I'm psycho like that), but the last 4 episodes had better be good to make up for this. They're killing all the cool characters...
Instead of the "oops" couldn't you just fix the problem and take this link off the main page for people it wasn't spoiled for yet but might be, then put it back in a few hours? Or can't you do that with wonderful Perl based Open Source software like Slashdot?

(geez, guys, after the first dozen or so complaints about spoilers, you'd stop adding more redundant postings... Aren't you smart enough to know that if a show is about to come on, you don't read a news article about it unless you don't mind the plot being revealed? Get a grip.)
Personally, I was very glad to see this news story - I have not followed the show for several seasons (frankly, I haven't even seen it regularly since the movie), and the Lone Gunmen idea was one of the last plot devices I ever really liked about the show. To hear that they met a noble end makes me wish I'd seen this episode... and being on the west coast, I might have time to turn it on and watch it, due to ths article's timely placement. At least now I can set a reminder to watch the repeat.

But whatever. It's obvious that all the whiny crybabies know less about internet etiquette than the people who made the mistake.
On to the real post, I'm not an X-Files fan. I occasionally catch an episode, and I've always liked the Lone Gunmen the best. I watched the pilot, and looked forward to watching their show, but there must have been a scheduling conflict since I missed the rest. When I saw the beginning of the X-files tonight, I freaked. "I thought it was the last 4-5 shows of the season, are they pulling a South Park by showing the Lone Gunmen instead???" Once it became obvious they weren't, I stopped watching, so I didn't know about the ending. Here's another spoiler for you, the main characters run into Duchovny in the end, and they all get killed. Any takers on that bet?

First, I hadn't watched it yet. I taped it tonight, as I won't actually have time to watch it until tomorrow. So, the spoilage, well, at least lessens the sting, though I was shocked to see the headline on
I loved Byars. We had a group at college that got together and watched the Files on a semi-regular basis (our peak was the summer of '99 - everybody would come back from work, we were living in a dorm, and we'd all go down to the tv room and pop in an x-files tape, and watch classic episodes), and each of us was labeled with the person that he most resembled. (actually, we did have one girl who was kind of in the group, and she had red hair, so she became Scully.) I was Byars. I could really identify with him - had pretty much the same personality. Mulder was flamboyant, Langley was a hippie freak, Frohike was a dirty old man, but Byars was just a nice, calm guy.
Stinks that they're dead. At least, I presume, they went out in something of a blaze of glory and died for a good cause. It's not like they'll be making more X-Files without them For that matter, it's a good thing they won't be making any more X-Files. I personally think they should have cut the show off after season 7, and permanently left everybody wondering what exactly Scully was pregnant with (and by whom, and all that).
Quite whining, its only a show after all.

Way to go.
btw: Forget the "few hours too early" apology, some of us won't get those episodes for *months*.
Bah.
Damn people can you piss and moan any more than this. I think not. Let's all try to remember "IT'S A TV SHOW" and a sorry ass TV show at this point anyway.
Here's the sign of a truly worthwhile show to watch. A) it airs and you tape it and plan to watch it later B) you see on a preview for the next episode or hear from a friend what happened on the episode you just taped C) you watch it anyway because it's just so good as to keep your attention even though you know what's going to happen in the end. If you can't do A - B - and end up with C... IT'S CRAP.
Most TV, Movies, and even books are fairly predictable now-a-days. What captures most people's attention isn't how things are going to end but how they get to that ending, the journey there. If all you are doing is watching TV to see the ending then why not just record that last 5 minutes of the show and spend the other 55 minutes getting a life.
chrid fucked up. Then chrisd apologized. If I had made this mistake and a zillion people jumped down my throat I would feel like shit and I bet chrisd does. Leave the guy alone.

I haven't watched the X-Files for at least two seasons, after the tremendous sucking of three seasons ago. The fact that anyone is still watching that show astounds me.
Pulling this sort of crap with the best characters the show had come up with for years doesn't surprise me.
The show really should have ended with the movie, it was showing signs of sucking then. Afterwards, the show took a dive into a soap opera set in a parinoid delusion of space alien invasion. Yeah, I know the show always had that bent, but it went off the deep end after the movie. We begged them, go back to the monster of the week! But alas, they didn't listen, and alienated (literally) many of their fans. All the mystery was removed from the mysterious characters, at least, those that were still alive after the movie went on an important character killing binge. With the skepticism removed from the Sculley character, the show had no way to ground itself in some semblance of reality. Really, there was no one and nothing left for the show to run on.
I find it merciful that the show only has 4 episodes to go. X-Files, you once were a great show, but you went on far beyond your prime, and you've tarnished your image in front of many of your fans.
The preceding opinions are my own and do not neccessarily reflect those of geeks whose eyes towards the X-Files glazed over long ago.

CHRISD, why the hell did you put your meek apology up there (under the story, of all places), and then keep the headline in tact?!
I had the episode somewhat spoiled for my by your thoughtless headline, but you could have minimized the damage to others by pulling or changing the headline! You're not printing uncorrectable newspapers here! Use the medium, for god's sake.

I'm sorry, in my country the show was available only for the first season and in spanish. I'm a big fan of The Ramones, can someone quote some of Joey Ramone quotes used in the show by Langley ?
Thanks

Understanding Slashdot
4...Too regional. This is hard to quantify, but we want to post things to Slashdot that matters to people wherever they may live on earth. So if your post is too local, that might be why your story got rejected.
Fox is slowly wiping out it's good shows...once The Simpsons go, it's all COPS all the time for that network.
I can't find where to change my spoiler threshold setting in the preferences!
1000 deaths are not enough for chrisd. Everyone /. his site. Bring it down. Boycott anything he is involved with. Change your preferences to ignore all of his postings. Turn him into an Internet pariah.
Fuck you ChrisD!
Just another great reason why I think unmoderated boards shouldn't exist.
Idiots like yourself just spoil the net anyway.
I concur with others who have said you should have put a spoiler warning in there.
Dickhead.
> big overall apology to people further along the dateline who we probably regularly ruin shows for.
Oh so you did think about that, just cant be bothered to spend 2 minutes changing the headline.
moron
I though the internet took three more hours to reach the west coast too!
Not haven watched the series in like two years, and totally forgotten that the end was upon it, this comes as a shock (i didn't even watch it tongiht).... But then again, didn't Carter make some crack about the fact that nobody ever dies on the show? But then again, killing off one of the better side characters in the story is surely a good fall by plot twist...
Insert Sig Here
First of all, I'd like to preface this moment of full-out mainstream sci-fi geekiness by saying this: Anybody who replies by saying I have no life will promptly be ignored. Thank God (or higher power of your choice) I don't live like you.
Anyway, at the end after Frohike pulls the fire alarm and they're all standing there with their hands against the glass talking to Jimmy, it really reminded me of the end of Star Trek II. I couldn't help but think of Kirk and Spock staring at each other across the glass as Spock faces his death. Of course, there are probably a number of similar scenes on film and in plays, but that one stuck out in my mind. The reference may or may not be intentional, but I also couldn't help but think that Scully has attended a premature funeral before. However, it's highly unlikely that they'll bring these guys back since these last five episodes are supposed to be all about tying up the myriad loose ends the scriptwriters left. As I said in my other comment, they've killed most of the good characters (Deep Throat, CSM, Krycek, and now TLG) and these last 4 episodes had better be really good.
While it is none to bright to post this without a spoiler warning, the opening segment (before the credits) made it patently obvious that the Lone Gunmen would be offed before the end of the episode.
Oh yeah, by the way:
THE PANIC ROOM: Jodie Foster and her kid get out of the Panic Room but all the thieves die or get arrested.
STAR WARS EPISODE II: Anakin's mom gets killed by Sandpeople. He freaks out and slays an entire village. Later in the movie, Anakin loses an arm to the evil Count Dooku -- who turns out to be Darth Tyranus. Anakin marries Padme.
CITIZEN KANE: "Rosebud" was his sled.
IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE: No man is a failure, who has friends.
BRAVEHEART: He arrested, then gets his intestines ripped out to the music of Enya.
CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON: They all fight a lot. The main guy dies of a poison dart.
Damnit, because I didn't catch the episode tonight. Thanks because I didn't catch it. Still...damnit. Hopefully this is just misinformation on Chris Carters part and they are really alive. Then the show will come back. My personal favorite episode of TLG was the one where they help out the guy at the football camp for blind people. What a hoot!

Life is like pants... fit in or you don't fit in.
I'll probably get modded down for this, but what is this with all the complaints about spoilers? One moment everybody is acting all enlightened and internet-savy by condamning those who try to get information withdrawn from sites that they don't like, the next moment you are all whining because somebody spoils a few minutes of entertainment. This is the way things go on the net, deal with it!
I'm as sad as the next guy to see them killed off like this, but "role models"?? These were thirty-somethings living in a basement playing with computers. Sure, it wasn't their parent's basement, but still...
Even if they put spoiler warnings all over this Slashdot article, the deluge of news on the web and through word of mouth tomorrow would have spoiled anyone who didn't see the episode when it aired tonight. It ain't the end of the world!
anyone who watches fox on a regular basis, at least for futurama and simpsons earlier this evening, saw the one of the lone gunmen dead on atopsy table. There is no reason to complain.
Urgo: "I want to live. I want to experience the universe and I want to eat pie!"
Jack: "Who doesn't??"
All I see here is a bunch of people bitching about spoilers. Fer cryin' out loud, why not bitch about the serious audience fuck that Chris Carter pulled when he canceled the TLG series.
That's right, that bag of bones waste of space left the series hanging with a 2 parter ep. That was a monumental cluster fuck of the people watching the show. There they are stuck in a vault in a building and the BBP (Big Bad People) are coming to get them. We have *NO* fucking clue how they got out of the mess.
Damn him, damn him to all hell.
(for the clue impaired, this post is dripping with sarcasm and wit)
[NOTE: Fox canceled the show, they are proportionally responsible shitbags]
If it was William Shatner it would have been

Move!...Out!....Of...Your....Parent's!....Basem
After all, we are talking about the X-Files universe--no reason why the Lone Gunmen can't appear in next week's show. I don't care if they were carrying a 10-megaton thermonuclear device when it detonates, there's always a way Carter can bring them back.
I rather like the fact that this got posted, actually. It helps me confirm that I made the right decision when I stopped watching the show.
I mean, c'mon. Few seasons back, "I, the mysterious Cigarette-smoking Man, am your father." *bang*. It got overdone a long time ago.

There have been a bunch of threads expressing sentiments like this:
This shows me how many slashdot users are horridly addicted to TV. And so what if it was a spoiler... It's just a poorly done scifi soap opera. IT'S FICTION.
Wait.. Because people care enough about a story, whatever the medium, to be upset when someone carelessly gives away the end, not just of one part of that story, but of a set of popular characters, that means they are "hopelessly addicted" to TV?
What is the deal here with people confusing their opinions of the X-Files, TV or whatever with the appropriateness of other people's reactions. I'm not a big fan of the show either, but I can imagine how upset I would have been if I had been wrapped up in a great book, tv show, play, or whatever and then had someone walk up to me and tell me how it ended. I mean, what is the point of fiction if not to have one ANTICIPATE the end? If you don't appreciate that anticipation, then fine, but that hardly makes someone who can appreciate it as pathetic as you seem to be saying.
Was it just me, or did anyone else really, really expect Jimmy Bond to come out with:
"Of all the three geek friends I have known, these geeks were the most...(gratuitous shatnerian pause)...human"
yeah
Ok, I'm gonna burn some karma on this one but I'm really angry at the /. editors for letting such a spoiler on the frontpage without even a warning.
:(
Yes, this message is redundant, so moderate me down but I just had to say it.
True warriors use the Klingon Google
I always liked The LGM.
If anything, they were more devoted to finding the truth than Mulder.
Despite their failures and their lack of resources, they kept trying and they kept delivering the truth, no matter the cost in money or to themselves.
And in the end, "Whatever it takes!" was sacrificing their own lives so that others would live.
Yeah, these guys are heroes. Fictional characters though they may be.
So, thanks Chris Carter, for not only giving us one more episode of The Lone Gunmen, but for giving the guys a decent and meaningful passing.
Guaranteed! This comment 100% Anthrax free!
I got up and logged into a quake server sometime during the middle of this episode. I found myself feeling cheated out of a precious episode of soon-to-be-ex-X-Files. While the X-Files have suffered from some uninspired writing over the last few years, I want to catch the remaining episodes just to be a loyal fan. The LG were an interesting comedic relief at times, but consuming one of the precious few X-Files episodes to bring closure to Larry, Mo and Curly just underscored the weakened script writing for X-Files.
...these guys were as close a role model as I could find on television as a kid
As a kid??? Good God how old are you???? And this story got posted....If those bumbling idiots were your role models I feel very, VERY sorry for you. Characters on a TV screen are NOT role models, sorry to break that to you. No wonder suckdot allowed this stench to be posted..they're all just like the poster.
Fuck you, The Great Slashdot Blackout refers to userposts. However, I will not take sides as I do not read slashdot's access figures.
Rho refers to Slashdot's apache logs as "tea leaves" however, Apache's logs are factual. Not speculation. It's not like he's reading random comments then coming to his conclusion.
Anyway.
It is slashdot's fault because they are responsible in an editorial fashion not to reveal such crucial plot points.
If you say, "It's just a TV Show" then I can counter that The Bible is "Just a Book." Which to me, is. Christianity is no more a religion than Star Trek fandom, atleast StarTrek fans don'r try to push thier opinions on you in real life...(I've yet to see the Hollings bill for madation of the having the Prime Directive posted in schools and courts.)

Finally, a personal message to chrisd:
Thanks a lot! What a maroon.
Yeah, I second that. I hope if he still-feels-fine after the 'worst spoiler ever'...
Gotta love moderaters that are too stupid to check timestamps before clicking "Redundant".
The cake is a pie
Yes, this is one of the worst episodes of the both shows too. Extremely stupid plot, bad actors play.
Looks to me Chris Carter is trying to make sure Fox will never bother him with anything related to X-Files again.
How old is Carter anyway ? Like 50? Getting senile?
I can not believe it was not made this bad intentinally.

I liked them every once in a while. The attempt at a spin-off series was awful. The jokes were forced.
Killed in an attempt to "do the right thing" is the best thing for them. The Klingons would be proud.
Don't worry about the spoiler, I haven't watched in years.
I wonder if he will find out in the last few episodes? I think he is the last person to know. :(

... for the spoiler.
I *was* going to watch this episode, which a friend had taped for me. So much for that.
Seriously, think twice about posting something like this - period.
Poorly written, filled with chese, complete lack of pacing, the deaths of those characters for the SOLE PURPOSE of ending the fan mail campaign asking to brink back "The Long Gunman" spinoff, and plot holes you could shoot a Kennedy through... The more I watch, the more I think that the writers have begun to really hate and resent this show, so they want to make damn sure that when they end it, it stays ended. Like, piss off and disgust your fans enough right at the end that not a single person will care enough to write a letter asking for more. Either that, or the guys at FOX have finally decided that it's time to retire, so they are trying thier best to get dumped out on the street. Bye bye X-Files, bye bye Futurama... bye bye FOX!

Why did you have to go and post this before those of us on the west coast saw the show?!?! WTF?
Thanks assholes.
Those dudes were the best!! XFiles is nothing without them - it just plain sucks!!
Well perhaps if you spent a little more time in the real world and less time staring at a monitor...
The fact is this is NOT news. It's been known for at LEAST 2 months that they were killed off.
I can seriously Buffy for everyone as well, so I suggest you all shut the fuck up.

Buggering up the posting is bad enough, but not changing the title is just awful. Not only are you offending readers of your own site but you're causing any site that syndicates your headlines to do the same.
The article should have been (and still should be) pulled from the front page and replaced with an article saying you screwed up with an X-Files spoiler and provide a link for anyone who actually wants to read/contribute to the original article now they have been sufficiently warned.
If someone had posted such spoilage in a random thread they'd have been modded to oblivion immediatly. We can't do that to your posting, so you should have.

The lone gunmen were the best part of the x-files and Fox in all their wisdom should not have cancelled the show. This x-files story line is stupid, brign back the lone gunmen and ALSO bring back futurama, just because the Fox network has made money in the past, if they kill of their good shows like futurama and the lone gunmen, then their ratings could drop and people will just go to who ever produces the shows they like (such as futurama etc.). Perhaps another network could pick up these shows, why would you throw away a dedicated fan following, it's obvious the theory that some people can accidentally make money but are obblivious to why and how something they did made money (wake up overpaid executives at Fox.. the clock is ticking, try to get your audience more alienated..thenyou can watch your money dissapear..good huh?. you just got an A+ for stupidity).
Where is that hottie Cowgirlneal?
I pwn you.
I'm in no way happy to see these guys go, because that means that there's no chance of ressurecting their spin-off.
Now I have absolutely no reason to watch the final episodes of x-files.

Ah yes this reminds me of Jump The Shark. Basically when a show jumps the shark it goes to hell in a handbasket. to me it was when Mulder left. I mean he WAS the x-files... oh and incase you don't know 'Jumping the shark' was coined from happy days... after the fateful episode when The Fonz jumped the shark the show went to hell.
Yeah, I was wondering about the sudden lack of 'T(H)GHSH(FCH)TBW!!' sigs.

So now we can finally, without risk of losing Karma, start making fun about those self-righteous bastards, eh?
Thanks for the comment: as a Canadian, it's the first half-way sensitive thing I've heard from an American civilian about this. And, yes, the Pamela Anderson comment actually made me smile. It's been a little touchy up here: we Canadians are a helluva lot more careful about "friendly fire" than it appears the U.S. is, and our attitude is "go ahead and shoot each other, just don't shoot your friends". I hope the Canadian inquiry gets to examine U.S. witnesses or next time we might be a lot less anxious to help.
So the only characters that still had any integrity left, and they killed 'em off.
Actually, I guess a better way to look at it would be the 'rats fleeing a sinking ship' thing. Get out while you still can!!!!
Adieu, Byers, Langley, and Frohike.
If all the world's a stage, anyone who says they want better lighting spends far too much time in a dark theatre.
I don't bother watching X-Files anymore since the show has gone into the proverbial toilet... Slept through the episode, but bet the roommate that the Lone Gunmen would be the ones to die based on the ad... Thanks for proving me right (and that X-Files is incredibly predictable now, and no longer worth watching)...
Just because you can mod me down, doesn't mean you're right. Shoes for industry!
They weren't on the boat, even though the commercial suggests it. Watch and see.
It's the (Hopefully) Great Slashdot Blackout, isn't it? So, what better way to get people so worked up and annoyed that they automatically click 'Read More' to post their disgust at being spoiled so blatantly...
"Why did they cancel my favorite Sci-Fi show? I downloaded ALL the episodes!"
You have got to be shitting me! The Lone Gunmen were your ROLE MODELS? Did you somehow not notice that they are just comic relief, written into the plots just to show you how dorky an over-the-top geek can be?
I'm sorry to hear that they're gone -- and in all likelihood will be followed by many other X-FILES characters as the last season winds down. The Gunmen embodied the aspect of X-FILES that I often enjoyed most, and yet that received little attention: the show's impish sense of humor. My favorite episodes are the funny ones.
I won't say that every episode of the short-lived LONE GUNMEN series was funny. I never liked the generic babe they added, a character whose motivations seldom made sense. And the plots were preposterous. The debut episode was some nonsense about villains taking remote control of a 767 and trying to pilot it into the World Trade Center. Huh, like that could ever happen.
Who wipes your ass son? Your mama? Hey shadowman, don't cry! You will feel better tomorrow. Now be a good boy and go to bed.
Editing personal Slashdot accounts to exclude chrisd would be a fine solution if he was at least nice enought to keep his spoilers outside of the title. But Slashdot titles find there way through-out the web fairly quickly. For example, the title of this story also appeared on Freshmeat before the west coast broadcast started.
If you West-Coasties feel you've been hard done by, what about the rest of the world that are one or two whole seasons behind?
That one was of the worst things Slashdot's done in a long, long time.
Why was this moded redundant? It's the first comment I see at Threshold 1 and ITS TRUE! Also, don't forget the Europeans!
kthxbye
Well, I've been seeing all of these people complaining about having the plot ruined. Down in Australia where I am now, I can't even get the X-Files. I usually live near NYC, so, it is weird. However, this does give me something to really look forward to when I catch the re-runs for the next 30 or so years. Maybe it ruined it for some, but, don't complain, for some of us, this is the only real news of the show that I can get right now.

By the way. This won't be shown on TV over here for months... If I still watched the X-Files, I might be pissed off about that. Not all the world gets the same TV shows at the same time.
"Information wants to be paid"
Aw man, I loved TLG. I loved their show (now I have to download all the episodes on a 56k connection :(), only tended to watch this and the season before's X-Files episodes when they were on it (or when I was bored). I've been pleading with Fox to bring TLG back, too. This stinks of a conspiracy (If Mulder were real then he would think so, too :p). My bet is they killed them off so people like me would shut up, which is a shame. I can no longer hope their spinoff will be resurrected...but hey, maybe one could be done cronicling their start, from before their original spinoff began..? Or one showing what happened between that damned cliffhanger that was never ended and their deaths? *sigh* Now their show (and them in general) go down as my favorite in TV history. Why, oh, why Fox...?
You Americans.
The apology is good. However, replacing the story with a big spoiler warning would have been a lot better...
If posting spoilers on the front page
isn't bad enough, it seems the countless
people who have complained about it
just hasn't had an effect on editorial
policy.
Why is it still on the front page? Why
hasn't it been edited so the plot spoiler
is in the "read more" section.
Sheesh! I'm not one to complain normally
but this is a really crap editorial policy...
and they expect me to subscribe?

..but back in the prime of the X-Files, these guys were as close a role model as I could find on television as a kid.
So you were a kid back in what, 1995? How old are you?
WAAIT one second here.. 1995 was 7 years ago?
Jeezus.. I'm getting old! Scary!
This is the first semi-Insightful comment I have read on Slashdot in the last couple of months.
And it's a signed "Anonymous Coward" comment which no one will probably read because they think "microsoft sucks" comments with +5 represent the smartest people here.
Which, at this rate, they probably do. They talk about the "Great Blackout", but isn't the exodus of insightful commentary to better blogs something that has been happening for a long time, and yet an indication that commentary does not matter to what Slashdot is anymore?
Freedom is the freedom to say 2+2=4, everything else follows...
Well perhaps if you spent a little more time in the real world and less time staring at a monitor...
The fact is this is NOT news. It's been known for at LEAST 2 months that they were killed off.
So you've known for two months that they'd be killed off, and you learned this by spending time in the real world instead of staring at a monitor?
What I want to know is, what kind of fire alarm system drops two airtight walls around the person pulling the fire alarm? Did they have a problem with kids pulling the alarm and decided to setup a mantrap so it'd hold them until the police came? What if the building was on fire and collapsed around them?
Take your med's, bud. You've gotten a little hot under the collar at some dude on a message board.
Seems to me you should just own up to the fact that he scored a point or two on you. So what. Walk it off, champ.

So he spoiled the end just watch the whole episode and shut up. It was known a couple of months ago they were going to die anyways.
During an interview for one of the "behind the scenes" bits on the X-Files DVD sets the person who used to play "deep throat" made a (un)intentional slip that "nobody ever dies on the X-Files, nobody."
Keep that in mind when you consider you saw them alive and well behind the glass, then three coffins... it could be just an elaborate scam.
Real X-Files fans know that the show really ended at the movie a few years back. Everything since has just been FOX selling cheap advertising time.
Yeah, I think Chris did this deliberately. He's trying to goad people participating in the blackout (many of whom said they will still be looking at the front page) into responding. In a day or two, there will be an article about how Slashdot is being sold to Microsoft, and how everyone can soon use Passport to login automatically.
David Duchovny will reprise his role as FBI Agent Fox Mulder when he stars in the two-hour series finale of THE X-FILES Sunday, May 19 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. In true X-FILES fashion, story details for the remaining episodes of the series are under tight wrap. The final five episodes will begin to provide highly anticipated answers to many of the shows most-asked questions, culminating in the two-hour finale in which Agent Mulder is reunited with Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) after having gone missing for the past year. Also, the final episodes of the series will examine many of the pieces involved in the long-running mythology that has continued throughout the shows nine seasons. The series finale is being written by series creator and executive producer Chris Carter and directed by co executive producer Kim Manners. In addition to appearing in the two-hour series finale, Duchovny is also confirmed to direct THE X-FILES episode scheduled to air Sunday, April 28 (9:00- 10:00 PM ET/PT), which is based on a story idea he co-wrote with Carter and executive producer Frank Spotnitz. Last season, Agent Scully and her new associate in the X-files office, Agent John Doggett (Robert Patrick), investigated the mysterious alien abduction of Agent Mulder and successfully saved him from a fate that would have placed him under alien control. This season, Scully and Doggett have been joined by Agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) in their investigations, including a shocking government cover-up with possible ties to the FBI and Scully and Mulder's newborn son. The trio known as the lone gunmen are apparently killed in the later episodes, only to return expectedly in the finale.
The show title was called "Jump the Shark." An apparent reference to jumptheshark.com. Rather humerous me thinks.

Almost 500 posts in here and about ten of them had something to say other than "Yo, futzheads, thanks for spoiling the show." Don't ya think the idea that he shouldn't have spoiled the ending was pretty thoroughly conveyed by the first, oh, 100 posts that lashed ChrisD?
I was hoping for a little intelligent conversation about how X-Files wrapped up the Lone Gunmen, and instead I was forced to wade through a sewer of repetitive drivel. Hey, but that's okay, folks. *I* was the one who was misguided.
For anyone using the Lone Gunmen as role models, I say get a life! They're only TV characters and bad ones at that! Find some real life role models; maybe Bono for his activist activities, or maybe a sports personality or god forbid, maybe even a politician! If you seriously follow these characters as role models, then you REALLY need to get yourself in the real world.
Have they been taken over by Corporate Bureaucrat Robots? Is there any real intelligence left behind all the Perl code or has it taken on a life of its own?

OH no....
I think the distinction is that a lot of people were 'exposed' to the spoiler without any warning, and from an unexpected source. I don't think anyone's ever equated freedom of information with freedom for information to jump out and force itself on you.
If you went hunting for X Files information, fair enough that it's your fault if you see something you didn't want to read. But Slashdot reporting significant tv show plot twists before the episode even aired in some parts of America? It's a screwup, plain and simple.
"Oh, it's just a TV show, how trivial, get over it!" - if it's so trivial, what's it doing being reported on Slashdot? The only reason why it was posted was because it was important to a reasonable segment of Slashdot's userbase!

Though I Can understand the frustration of having this little plot twist spoiled and the desire to post in reply to the spoiler your feelings, what I can not understand is how all these complaints seemed to be moderated up to a 4 (and maybe even a few 5s). They don't say anything except, "jeez, Chrisd, you suck for ruining the episode." What good does this do to anyone? And why would anyone mod this up as "interesting?" Last I checked, the purpose of moderating was to give posts with interesting and/or informative information a higher rating so that one wouldn't have to wade through the hundreds of "jeez, chrisd/Katz/SW I/jar jar binks/Lucas/whatever sucks!" messages.

Who cares? Who cares? Who cares...
It is by the juice of the coffee bean that thoughts acquire speed, the teeth acquire stains. The stains become a warning
At the sheer number of morons that read /. Just because you own a TiVo doesn't mean that sites like /. need to bow to your whims. Get a clue. There is no reason that /. should hold a story until you get a chance to watch an episode of a freaking TV show that you have recorded. Admittedly, they should have waited until after it aired on the west cost, but you TiVo morons need to take a chill pill. Owning a piece of cool technolgy does not make you Gods gift to /.!
IANAL... But I play one on

Just repeat to yourself, it's just a show and I should really just relax
Pretend there is some witty statement here.
What's your fucking point? The X-Files is just a TV show, and the Bible is just a book. Thanks for the obvious, asshole.
Nuts, I forgot that started yesterday. Thanks for the reminder.
/. for a week. But, it must be done.
Boy, it's going to be hard to drop out of

What are you people doing reading Slashdot on a SUNDAY?!?!?! Can't you tear yourselves away from your damn computer for a day? Get a life!
COULD I FEEL ANY FUCKING OLDER RIGHT NOW?
When you were a kid!?!?!
Jesus, I need a beer.
---- It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again. It does this whenever it's told.
They're not really dead. It's part of the, y'know, the conspiracy.
But even still, why, why, why couldn't it have been the stupid guy and the Eva Savealot chick instead?
I'm online commenting on other people online commenting about the imaginary characters of a cancelled television show.
Guess I'll suck the tailpipe now.
I admit I was heated there, but I made a pretty good point. Some of us would like to watch our TV shows without knowing what happens in the end. It's bad manners to just blurt it out.
I have no regrets about my complaint. Slashdot has been really good about reviewing movies etc without spoiling what'll happen, but what happened last night was really ignorant.
Mod me down for using the F-word if you like, but do *not* mod me down for saying "That aint't cool." Opinions are what Slashdot's all about.
"Derp de derp."
Oh poor baby, your precious TV viewing experience was RUINED!!! Oh no, better go kill yourself since your reason to live has been taken away! WAHH!
I had my TiVo taping Slashdot, didn't spoil a thing! :-)
In the been-there-done-that column, I was severely pummelled once when I let it slip (CYA SPOILER HERE) that the Penguin died. Still limping....

BTW chrisd is a TARD!!!
Hurry up and end the fucking show!
"He got better"
"The Crystal Wind is the Storm, and the Storm is Data, and the Data is Life"
Nothing I hate to see worse than someone crying and bitching about how there weren't any "spoiler warnings". How about showing some fucking common sense and NOT reading the article about the show you are "about to watch" if you are so worried someone might spoil it for you.
Can't even spell Fucking. Jesus what a dipshit!
The LAWRENCE OF ARABIA spoiler should read "The trick is not minding that your legs fall asleep."
"The Crystal Wind is the Storm, and the Storm is Data, and the Data is Life"
Jesu Cristo! I've never seen so many people getting so abusive over a friggin tv show! Give the man a break. He made a mistake and apologized. Let it go.
It is sad to see the incredible amount of flames this article has recieved. /. would be the last place where sharing information and free speech would be attacked so virulently. /. posts, people and opinions are becomming mainstream.
I thought that
Maybe Chris made a mistake by forgetting to add the "spoiler allert". So what if he did so? He did what we all strive to do here: find an interesting story, write it the most objective way he could and post it as fast as possible.
And he achived that! Quite well I might add.
Sure he fortot to add 3 words at the beginning of the text. Does he deserve all this hatred?
I naively hoped he wasn't going to.... I was wrong.
I'm afraid this thread just shows how much
Wow, so many flames just for revealing the ending of a tv show? And such terrible language? Chris may have messed up by spoiling the episode, but at least one good thing came out of it. It gave the slashdot community an opportunity to vent pent up anger and frustration. I shudder to think where all the negative energy would have ended up had Chris not provided this opportunity, lol.
Seriously folks. It is just a tv show, and knowing the ending does not spoil the entire episode.
I should stop right there, but I cannot resist examining this in a little more depth. I am a sociologist at heart. Why would so many people feel the need to turn their flame throwers up to maximum over this issue?
* Is it a case of wanting to fit into the community? Anybody who flames in this situation is part of the community, and the anybody who doesn't is an outsider?
* Or is there something about geeks that makes them need to vent their anger? Perhaps geeks were ridiculed and scored as youngsters and they have a lot of pent up rage, bursting at the seams, just looking for an outlet?
* Is their some other reason for the excessive flames in this situation?
Whatever the reason, the reaction seems a bit extreme.
thanks a lot! you ruined the show for us on the west coast. BOZO!
... that the east-west-conflict still outweighs everything else in the US.
Lucky chrisd, if that had happend on 9/11, GWB would be searching for him instead of bin Laden.
I'm still in shock
No...it's okay...I wasn't using my Civil Liberties anyway
Thanks so much for blowing that episode for me. How could you be so stupid? Oh, right, I'm stupid for reading /.
I'll try to return the favor by geting a bootleg copy of Attack of the Clones and filling you in on it. How does that sound?
I'm as much of a computer geek as anyone here, have been for 20 some odd years. Being a computer geek I hate people like the lone gunmen.
/. before west coast had a chance to see it. However, if you choose to record now and watch later, that's your problem. If you live in some other country, well duh, use your head for something other than catching flies.
Anyone here that is really a computer geek should know that you can't just tap on the keyboard for 3 seconds and start launching nukes at Russia. I exaggerated the nuke thing, but in one episode they started a company that was a thousand times more ridiculous... a video game where people actually die from fake bullets... please. OH NO! Mulder is trapped in the game! How will we ever get him out!? Pure crap.
Perhaps if they used realistic technology and didn't dress and act like the worst stereotype imaginable I wouldn't be so happy to know they are dead. Even happier that it was 'spoiled' (boo hoo) for some uber nerds that wanna grow up and be just like them.
If you can tap three keys on your keyboard and blow up my computer and me with it, then I guess I'm sadly mistaken. However, in my world, you can't patch into the central net and overclock my toaster oven to emmit an EMP shutting down 10 city blocks so I'm not very worried.
Yes, dude was a tool for posting it in a headline on
I'm betting he'll be back for the last ep. They never found the body remember?
STOP THE MADNESS!!!
Pull the story, or at least edit it to make it clear there are SPOILERS!
DON'T SPOIL IT FOR PEOPLE WHO TIMESHIFT!!!
Oh, and screw your "lameness filter" for not allowing all caps. THIS IS WORTH YELLING ABOUT, MORONS!!!
I was going to say, "who cares", but it seems that the Cheesie-stained, wanking membership does.
I don't think they are restricted from moderating. Note that I'm taking part in the blackout, but justtify this post with the fact that it's totaly offtopic...
autopr0n is like, down and stuff.
Looking for a role model in the wasteland of television is just stupid.
So many people are upset about the spoiler that there are very few comments pointing out how bad the episode was. First of all, the ending with the funeral was like a parody of the "death of Spock" that was already taken apart by Seinfeld ("they aren't really dead if we find a way to remember them"). It was awful. Worst thing I've ever seen on X-Files. Second, what hotel has airtight doors every forty feet? There is no way that area was airtight. The whole episode was stupid.
I did like the boat blowing up. Again, had the gas tank really gone, I don't think the entire boat would have exploded like that, but what the hell, it was fun.
hey, we're just getting the final season of
'i love lucy' here on mars. how about a spoiler warning next time?
"I wonder if this ep was an involuted apology by CC, and his attempt to do right by the Gunmen?
...maybe, and/or he wanted to make sure that we wouldn't be seeing unauthorized or really bad spinoffs of the Gunmen by anybody else...
if we can believe Duchovny's claims, CC is a man who likes COMPLETE control of the characters he creates and most esp, doesn't like anybody else to profit from merchandising or marketing them....
THOUGH, that said, REMEMBER, it WAS a "closed casket" funeral...
..and THAT leaves the door open to some hokey way to bring them back at a later time....(ala' what he did with Mulder when CC "killed" him off and brought him "back" for ratings' sweeps)....
Ten quid, she's so easy to blind. And not a word is spoken...
God, my 3 year old daughter whines less than you bunch of grown losers..
Get a life.. If your entire life hangs on the balance of the Xfiles, a handgun with the optional mouthpiece attatchment might be just the thing for you...
But I'm not contributing anything to the site, just clarifying a point of the blackout.
:(
*sigh* I really don't have any self control
autopr0n is like, down and stuff.
But surely, Area 51 is real, isn't it... and I'm sure Pam Anderson's boobs are real too.
that Carter's original arc for the series was only five years.
He had an exit strategy worked out from the beginning. And he had the thing lined up. But then the money started pouring in, and Fox talked him into extending it. Which blew the story line all to hell. Instead of being a mystery, it became a superstitious soap opera.
Then it outlasted David Duchovny's interest.
After he left, total Dullsville. I stopped watching. So did a lot of other people. Now they have no reason at all to keep it going.

and paranoia is never a good rolemodel. Careful scrutiny on the other hand is.
i dunno man, will and grace is pretty homosexual :)
But...
We never saw them dead. All we saw were some closed coffins being buried. Maybe it's just a ruse to draw out "Mr. Big", the head terrorist. The guys are probably hanging out with Mulder, eating pizza and watching porn videos.
Hey, it's TV. No ever actually dies on a TV show, especially on a science fiction one...

<< CD: Oops, sorry about the spoiler >>
Yes, BUT IT'S STILL THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you'd removed the thread altogether instead of just appending that line, I'd never have seen it, and neither would many other people. Even if most of the U.S. readers have seen the episode by now, the rest of the world hasn't. Have a little consideration!
(And if it's not possible to delete it, at least rename it to "Big Fat X-Files Final Season Spoiler" or something...)
Non of this is to say that there shouldn't be spoiler alerts in general, but:
1. Tivo users take your chances hoarding content till you feel like watching it. The world won't wait for you to catch up! Which is weird, because you're the exact demographic that would kill to see a movie before its released, ahead of everyone else.
2. No one watches X-Files anymore, so who cares? The show's almost off the air, what's the diff if they're killed or 'That 80's Show' is airing in their time slot?
3. They're NOT DEAD. Geez, have you ever WATCHED the show?
Thas' all,
Searchr
"Dude, I couldn't believe Costner turned out to be the Russian spy!"
-Now that is a spoiler-
If you hadn't seen the show before 9PM EST (on Divx 6.2, from pirated satillite editing feed) then you aren't a real geek!! So shut up and think on your shame. And don't waste my time making me read all your groveling!
Forget mis-timing your message, how about hiding the spoiler in the message for those who have either time-shifted (like I have) or are in another country? It's waiting at home in my TiVo for me to watch. I haven't looked at the X Files all year, I only recorded this one to see the Lone Gunmen.
That was probably the most thoughtless, inconsiderate, stupid fucking thing I've seen anyone post in quite some time.
It's a great pity that Slashdot seem to have NO CONSCIOUS EDITORS.
Go to Hell.
That's just great . Got your 15 minutes of fame, or should I say FLAME... I doubt anyone will read this, what with it being the ~ 700th reply, but I hope you think of this thread every time you go to type the letter X in future. I too stopped watching the show some time ago, mostly because I've got my 3yr old to look after in the evenings. As I don't want to upset her I don't watch these shows when she's around. (And with her bad sleeping patterns, she's always up late..) I would have switched back for TLG, as there was something cool about those guys. But now....
Regarding the added comment at the end of the original post, who gives a shit about the couple of hours time lag there in the US! How about the couple of months time lag for the rest of the god-damned world!!!! How about next time not putting any spoilers in the heading or intro so if people want to see the info they have to click for "More" on the article! There are slashdot reader all around the f*cking world you know! :(
you can email them at:
askthexfiles@fox.com
And they had a listener comment line up at Fox (it's been there for quite awhile.) If you have a comment you think they should listen to:
1-800-369-6848
(BTW, they are filming the last scenes of the final episode of the X-Files this week (wrap is on Friday) so comments and emails will certainly get quick notice.)
Either they are clueless shitheads, or just shitheads with no sense of humor.
Funniest reply to a foot-in-mouth reply all day.
Too bad it got you karma-burned.
I would have felt a little better if I had read the warning prior. It could have prepared me for the deaths of my all-time favorite television characters (and the last non-suck-ass thing about The X-Files). Then again, I live on the East Coast, so I would have already seen it. I thought, gee, Chris Carter isn't such a huge dick, he's letting us have one last Lone Gunmen episode...until he killed them off, the rat. it's official, Fox can bite my ass. How appropriate the title of that episode, "Jump the Shark" ... if it hadn't done it with the movie, it surely did it last night. One last thing - they could have offed Yves (or Doggett or Reyes, for that matter) instead, no one gave a rat's ass about her.
Come on - lets say together now "It's only a TV show!"
Video Game cheats, hints a
So the fuck what? You are now aware of the ending of an episode of the X files.
God forbid!
It's not like you wouldn't know the ending after you watched it anyways.
Do yourself a favor and turn off that television
When did TV become this serious? Everyone is fighting over a damn spoiler and no one seems to care that the news that the Lone Gunmen were going to die was out ages ago on ain-it-cool-news. What's the big deal? I saw this trash episode being traded in DivX format a day before it was aired "nationally"; it was ripped from satellite (not a small dish.. c-band, moron) from one of the services that usually mess up feeds like this. Check IRC for a copy of next week's episode late Friday or early Saturday.
Turns out TV rules more than just idiots, it also rules geeks (that are by no means stupid). Now that's sad. Byeah!
I agree that it would have been nice if a Spoiler warning had been part of the headline, but the level of abject whinging going on is quite sickening.
Wait, I thought we were protesting the Armenian genocide today. What's this about a slashdot blackout?
