If they really want to educate people then at least make it interesting rather than 20 seconds of dullness. Something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MgZqMx-qWw maybe? (From The IT Crowd)
Can be used by all spreadsheet programs (Excel,Gnumeric,OOCalc probably even Google's online offerings) for complete portability
Depends what you want to be able to do with your data? If it's just quick searches to find local wifi points then it seems overkill to use a multi-platform/FOSS database
... if this encryption scheme was made intentionally easy to bypass/break after all think of all those MPAA lawyers that would be out of a job if these formats were 100% un-crackable.
That is only on the address "State/Province" box only which is not needed for non-us addresses. The box below the state/province selection has most of the planet covered
I keep being told by Game (UK Highstreet game store) that come feb there will be loads of wii's available or if I want I can find out at 8:30 if they are due any in that day (They keep getting the odd 2 or 3 every few days) and then wait until they are delivered which could be any time of the day the only problem having a job and my boss won't be too impressed if I don't turn up (and they won't let you reserve one as apparently that won't be fair to others that come in asking for the machine!!?!?!). On top of that I have had zelda & wii-play on order from play.com since october and they still haven't had the stocks to despatch them !
>Hmm, I wonder if Microsoft had anything to do with that decision?
NO... never... They wouldn't do a thing like that...
Anyway next weeks update to SLES10 will include the following features a) OpenOffice has been updated to load/save Word documents by default and Macros will run by default. b) Firefox has been updated to use MSN as it's homepage and default search engine c) Evolution has been patched to try and execute all email attachments when you view an email. d) All the above programs now need to be run as root
>OK. Do you want to teach dozens of teachers and hundreds of kids how to use Linux?
Yeah like mozilla & openoffice are so diffent to the windows equiv's. I'll take years to show them that the back button in mozilla works just like errr. the back button on IE, and open office how long will it take to show people that to open a file you select File/Open unlike microsoft office where you select errr file/open!
Just a quick update to my previous post.. On the unbox site it lists the entire series of firefly for $22 or $1.99 per episode. via cd-wow http://www2.cd-wow.us/detail_results_2.php?product _code=10490 it is $25.95 for the DVD set with includes "Interactive Menus, Scene Selection, Making Of Feature, Featurette".
and then you can use your favorite software to copy them to your portable players:)
I'll second that as well ! + If you pre-order and the price drops you get the lower price and if the price rises you pay the original price at the time of the order.
Also http://www2.cd-wow.com/ might be worth a look.In the UK LOST was split into two parts each being around £30. From cd-wow I got the entire series 1 for £32(ish) while it was still being shown on UK tv.. Nice to be able to watch it without the adverts:)
i don't know. This morning I opened a 1 page word document (with a single macro that inserts a date) that was created about 6 months ago and for some unknown reason it took around 1 minute to load all the other applicationed stopped responding and strangest of all on my T41 laptop the trackpad stopped responding while the little stick mouse worked fine?
"Since it's a MS format, presumably the codec will be embedded within the OS and will have an easy hook to read/write the format from any program..."
don't forget the hooks to allow an image to format your hard-drive/ run executables as root and maybe even give it facilities to copy your secure account/bank details and mail them out.
> How difficult is it for MS to just add OpenDocument support?
Probably not very difficult.
Except for the fact that this could allow people export existing documents to the OpenDocument format and in turn move over to StarOffice/OpenOffice to save money.
At the end of the day Microsoft is just being petty! If StarOffice/OpenOffice is so difficult/expensive/crap/slow etc.. then what do they have to worry about? Is Office better than all the offerings or not?
anyone seen the new ones currently being shown on saturday mornings on ITV's (UK Television) program MOM ? (+ one of the presenters isn't too bad looking;) )
>Can the customer even elect to not use IE, or does the OS still force them to use IE for some tasks?
I have IE disabled (well as much as you can using the built in functions for disabling certain microsoft programs like outlook,IE,messenger). I wanted to print out a visio2003 page but did not have visio on my machine! So I install the Microsoft Visio Viewer and double click on the file. Does it open in its own window? NO. Does it open in firefox? NO. Does it run it in IE? YES ! So YES you still are forced by some microsoft OS extensions to use IE.
For an extra laugh do a print preview of the document. As far as I can tell the print preview suggests that once printed I can move the image around using the scrollbars or using the scroll wheel.... Only problem to solve now is how to plug my mouse into the paper!

LOL

# Paint has new features such as unlimited undo levels and a crop function.

>good read but I would like to know more about the hd history in the registry any windows experts here :)
errmm.. try rebooting it and see if that helps..
well at least that seems to be the reply I get from our IT dept when ever I ask why application X had failed and shutdown.

well the geek guy didn't get rich by writing a lot of checks!

This will increase the price somewhat but would be entertaining to watch as the robot deer retaliates...

No it's worse than that.. It's Forbes magazine with an article written by Dan "SCO is going to win, Linux users are terrorists etc.." Lyons.

>As computers advance it only makes sense to use the power that is becoming available.
I agree 100% but I want the power to be used by my applications not a bloated OS sucking up all the resources before I've even started.
in the UK they already do provide a similar service

So can't they be fined for knowingly allowing this machine to send spam?
"Microsoft set up a clean computer and then infected it."
So they switched it on and connected it to the net?

That was old SCO. Not the company currently known as SCO which was Caldera (The failed Linux distributor)
