It's not ironic at all, really. There is a conflict, because the two simply disagree about certain things. Perhaps most importantly, they disagree about the creation of the universe. I agree that the two should coincide, because ultimately, they both seek to answer the same questions. I happen to think that there is an explanation that satisfies both the Bible's story and the theory of evolution, the big bang, etc, but this thread is already far enough off-topic.

Whoa, whoa, slow down, cowboy. Your lunar solar array idea is pretty cool. Actually really cool. But there is a really huge difficulty in getting the power back down to earth. The laser thing just wouldn't be feasible, seriously. The expense of creating such a laser transmitter and receiver is just tremendous, obviously. And, while pointing it at tangential angle to the Earth, at a satellite, is a good idea, you'd still have to beam the power from the satellite to the ground, so you still have the "cooking" problem to worry about. Another big problem is meteor strikes... The Moon, sans atmosphere, gets lots and lots of them. With 50% of the surface covered with panels, that means continuous impacts and continuous repairs. And if one of them hits giant power transmission laser, game over.

But there was no need for the wild tangent with world hunger and desalinazation of the entire ocean. I don't think the whales would be happy about that... And what does antimatter curing cancer have to do with anything?

On Windows, this is fairly common, for me anyway. In my text editor, for example, you can drag-select with the left button, and then click with the right button (while still dragging) to toggle the selection between a normal select and a "box select" and a full-line select. Really handy, actually. Also, in several apps, you can right click while dragging to cancel the current action. Like say you're drawing a really precise curve or something, and you get halfway through and realize that you've screwed up. Some apps (maybe even Photoshop?) will cancel the whole curve if you right-click. It just saves you the trouble of having to stop halfway and then hit the "undo" key combo. I've seen a few other handy things that you can do with pressing both buttons in this way, but I can't think of them at the moment...

I'm thinking you're not an economics major. I dream of a day when "Uncle Sam" only takes 30%. The state of California takes 9%, and federal income tax on a 100K salary is about 30% by itself, then tack on FICA and the dozen other nickel-and-dime B.S. taxes, and Uncle Sam ends up taking very close to half of your check, if not more. Not to mention 8.25% sales tax any time you actually want to spend what you have left. It's great how they get you coming and going like that. Property tax is 1.25% out here, which is nothing to sneeze at on a $5K house payment.

The bottom line is that, yes, if my wife did make 100K (I'm not married, and even if I were, two 100K incomes in a household is pretty extraordinary), then we might be able to barely afford a $700K house. But we'd have very, very little left to put into savings or anything else, really. But I refuse to gamble on a variable-rate, interest-only loan like so many people out here are doing. I'll just wait for the housing bust, and hope that it doesn't crush the economy so much that my job is affected.

Wow. Right on. I've been ranting about how this housing bubble is going to burst any day now, but I never made the connnection with offshoring. Makes sense.

I live in the South Bay area, which is the poster child of the housing craze right now. The median home price is now somewhere around $700K. And note that that's not new homes, just homes in general. Every month or so I see a new giant subdivision of townhomes being built with two bedroom, two bath, attached, cookie-cutter homes starting at $650K. And I've actually gone to talk to the people in the sales offices in these places, purely out of curiousity... I just ask the obvious question: "How are people affording these $4000 to $5000 per month mortgage payments?" I mean, I make a fairly good salary out here, and I couldn't even come close to that. Even if I were married and my wife was also making $100K, it would still be a stretch to make house payments like that.

So their reply is that people are taking "interest only" loans. Interest only loans on $700K houses!! Are these people out of their minds? Basically, they're gambling. They're risking every cent they have in the hopes that their houses will appreciate over the next few years, and then they can sell it. And what if it doesn't appreciate? Guess what! The bank is still going to want that money that they loaned you. Yeah, remember? You were only paying the interest on the loan, so you still owe them 100% of the principle, which is the better part of a million dollars. What's that you say? You can't afford to make the payments, and your house is now worth less than the amount of the loan? That sucks.

    3. Anaking doesn't like that answer. (Why should he?) The Jedi answer pretty much sounds like a big "screw you". Of course he's gonna worry about Padme. I would.
Anakin isn't supposed to be involved at all with Padme, because attachment is bad, lust is bad, jealousy, yadda yadda. So, from Yoda's point of view, Anakin is just whining about this girl that he knows. So of course Yoda's response is just "Yeah, people die all the time, kid. Life is tough. Deal."
    5. Anakin decides that the Jedi dogma is not correct, and joins the "dark" side. (Note: Dark doesn't mean evil. It means having an open mind and exploring both sides of the "force".)
No, dark does mean evil. The dark side of the force is about frying people with lightning and choking people, and most importantly, manipulating the very nature of life and death itself, not to mention killing anyone and everyone who interferes. It's about being driven by emotion -- primarily hatred and lust (for sex and/or power).
    7. Even though Anakin saved Obi-wan's life, Obi-wan is too blinded by his Jedi religion, and trys to kill Anakin. Trying to kill someone that saved your life is pretty low and evil in my book.
Even when that person has become a mass murder (of children) and is hell-bent on becoming a brutal dictator through any means necessary? And besides, it wasn't like Obi-Wan went after Anakin with the sole intention of killing him. Sure, it was something he knew he might be forced to do, but he still continued to try to reason with him. Only when it became clear that he was beyond being reasoned with did they come to blows. And even at the end of the battle, Obi-Wan was still trying to avoid killing him (i.e. "Don't try it... I have the higher ground"). But Anakin continued to fight, and Obi-Wan did what he had to do.
    8. Anakin gets his arms and legs cut off, and his girlfriend dies. That makes him pretty pissed. (I'd be pretty pissed, too.)
Yeah, but your ordering is all wrong. Anakin became an evil sonofabitch before any of that happened. He had already murdered kids, aliens, Dooku, sand people, and whoever else before any of that happened to him.
