He didn't make that kid wear a cape. One of the funniest (in an endearing sense) things about kids is the way they will happily wear pieces of their Haloween costumes for months after Haloween.
You forgot [3], the refutation of the statement "If God didn't want us to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat?"

It also doesn't mean they stop being valuable to the group -- they may not be able to walk well (say), but they could still know the best way to bring down some large animal, or where the best trap-lines were, etc. It may be very much in the self-interest of the group to carry a "disabled" person.

If you're going to eat it anyway, does it matter if you've half-way domesticated it? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything -- I have a lot of respect for hunting, but I wouldn't have compunctions about shooting a cow if I was planning to eat it (and knew how to dress it and had someplace to put all the meat).

It may have been a lot easier in Lewis & Clark's time, and before, as there were a lot more animals in the woods, and they may have had less fear of humans. Fishing certainly was easier 100 or 200 years ago. Also, your average person who hunted probably had a lot more experience than modern hunters.
Wait -- I'm a dumbass for believing what I read on Slashdot, yet I'm supposed to believe *your* anecdotal evidence over a guy who cited statistics and provided helpful google search hints? Frankly, regardless of the success of your anecdotal evidence (and congrats to your relatives if it works for them), I'll stick with scientic studies for now, thanks.
Generally, what makes me initially skeptical of medical marijuana is that I've never met anyone who uses medial marijuana who wasn't already a heavy or moderate pot smoker before they suddenly needed medical marijuana. I'm also skeptical of the fact that with most perscriptions, you get a recommended dose from the doctor, but with MM, once you get the perscription, you can buy as much as you think you need. In short, I think the whole notion of medical marijuana, at least as practiced in Oakland, California, is a scam.
Finally, for the record, I am generally for legalizing or decriminalizing marijuana use, but still... they don't call it dope for nothing.
Cool, thanks, that confirms my suspicions that while pot may help, actual medicine is better. I have glaucoma on both sides of my family and I spent ~16 hours a day looking at a CRT or LCD screen.
I encourage *everyone* on slastdot to go to the eye doctor at least every other year. Glaucoma causes blindness, and unless you get tested, the first symptom will be an irreversable loss of vision. If caught early -- before a loss of vision -- it can be arrested with eye-drops. It can be arrested aftera loss of vision too, but you'll still be somewhat blind!
Are you kidding me? Have you ever tried to find a document from something old at your company? Even with the best retrevial policies in the world, stuff just goes missing. And even if it isn't missing, the people who know where it is leave. Heck, we just lost some source from a project that finished only two months ago. (wtf -- I know, no one followed the correct archive procedures, but luckily a packrat kept it).
More than that, you have to first REMEMBER the minutes from 10 years ago contained this awesome point, and then track it down. More likely, they've had some poor 1st year lawyer or paralegal searching through EVERYTHING in the hopes of finding something, and this just turned up.
Hey that's not fair -- Lots of people mod their Xboxes or Xboxen not so that they can pirate Xbox games, but so that they can play pirated classic games with MAME or SNES emulators.
Even the most irritating spam, the kind I get tons of, promising "l 0w m.ortg age r3ates" only pisses me off for about a tenth of a second (long enough to recognize that the subject line is not real and select it for deleting).
But I think this is a case where the sentence will actually be a deterent to others, even though it seems harsh.
I hope -- and I think -- you're wrong about SCOTUS. Many judges appointed by Republicans (Souter, O'Connor) end up being pretty moderate. Ditto with Democratic appointees. There are always exceptions (Ginsburg, Thomas), but given that the Supremes a) are loathe to reverse themselves and b) have a greater chance of getting their own way in their internal debates by leading from the center, I tend to think, optimistically, that even if Bush were to appoint two new Supremes, we'd probably be ok. No liberals are likely to leave the bench in the next four years.
I'm much more worried about the four years of trying to exploit fossil fuels at the expense of alternative fuel research.
That stock should surge: the CA initiative was a 3 BILLION dollar investment in stem cell research. The NIH typically invests far less than that nationwide over the same period (sorry, I'm unable to provide links or more evidence of that; just heard it on the radio).
I voted against the initiative on principle -- I voted against all bonds this year, due to CA's already suffocating debt -- but I am not unhappy it passed. It will really give CA's biotech industry a great jumpstart, and maybe some great discoveries will come from it.
Regardless of the national race, I am pleased with how the initiatives seemed to go across the country. The exception being of course, gay marriage. Against gay marriage? Don't have one! It's ridiculous that there are special legal benefits that can only be granted to a union of a man and a woman.
A Japanese friend, who's favorite phrase was "brah brah brah" instead of "blah blah blah" told me once, and demonstrated, that she could easily pronounce both L and R and say "blah blah blah," but that it was essentially an enormous hassle and didn't come easily to her. She also said she could never remember which sound she was supposed to be making there when trying to talk in English. Sort of like Arnold's ability to actually say "California" with an American accent when he tries.
Xbox warranty is only 90 days. Suck0rz. But they do offer an extended two-year one, which you have to buy at the time of purchase I guess. I don't know. I never have had a problem with any hardware, even my 9/9/95 PSX.

No, while I have previously maintained that "A Curse is Forever" (see: my T-shirt at the last A's/Red Sox game), it is possible that the sheer smugness of the Yankees and their fans may have weakened the curse somehow. Also, some theorize that the curse may have expired in 2000 or 2001, meaning the Sox have only sucked since then.
It has also been theorized that the curse may also have expired when the last Yawkey sold the team. The Yawkeys were already owners when Babe Ruth died, so the curse may not have transferred over to the new owners.
Unless the curse still lurks... hoping to give St Louis a 0-3 comback to not only dash the hopes of Sox fans *but also* to erase the glory of the Sox come-from-behind defeat of the horrid, horrid, Yankees.
I sincerely hope not, because although I'm an A's fan, I don't like the Curse or the Yankees, but you gotta be careful about jinxing a curse.
A cassette! A walkman! Good lord! Don't you know that you lose an almost unoticeable amount of fidelity with a cassette! Why, that's unthinkable! MP3s on the other hand are digital and perfect.
Seriously, it kills me to see people desperately trying to figure out ways to record a digital signal from XM when you can just tape it if you want to record it. Yeah, I know tape degrades, but XM's playlist isn't infinite either; you can always just rerecord it. Sometimes analog solutions are ok.
It has an NPR station now. Or at least a "public radio" station. XM 133, "XM Public Radio." Check out the details here . Not sure if it has actual NPR, but it has the WBUR feed which is equally bor-- er, entertaining.

Does Marijuana actually help with Glaucoma? Or is that just an urban legend spread by potheads who want dope?
Dude, their TOS says "no modded Xboxes" so what's the big deal? There's no inalienable right to use Live if you've modded your Xbox.

For anyone to say that Clinton was anything but a liar is as ridiculous as saying the Bush team is always straight up with environmental facts.

Just how did anyone at Nintendo discover this? A little non-work-safe surfing?
