I had reasons enough to not like the guy. I did not know he was a cultist as well. Surely Cruse will run for office some day as well when the gigs dry up/
Strange, the copyright holders charge a different price for vinyl, 8 track, phonograph, MP3 or radio. I guess that is their right, but there is clearly a difference.
Aye, there's the rub. Prove how many people downloaded the share. Otherwise it should be considered a broadcast, and it is not the RIAA who should be mitigating the offense, but ASCAP and BMI.
Of course the real breadwinner for Disney is Pooh. Also saved from public domain by Bono, may he burn in hell for his crimes against the people he should have served.
"What is particularly outrageous is the Sonny Bono extension"
I concur. The most egregious theft of public property in the history of the nation, IMHO.
Hell yeah! The less these clowns do the better. No more bailouts of incompetently managed corporations. Let those companies fail and be replaced by a business that knows what they are doing.
There is really nothing the Government can do at this point. The only way to curb oil prices is to strengthen the dollar, and the only way to do that would be to raise the return on investing in dollars. Which means raising interest rates and crushing the financial sector as home prices collapse even more.
They are caught between double digit inflation or double digit interest rates. I think we will se both before this recession is over.
Bailing out Fannie and Freddie DOUBLED the national debt. Poof, just like that, we sold our children's future.
"The UK government right now is in such a mess it's almost surreal."
The Government that governs least governs best, I should think. If the UK's is ineffective, it sounds like a nice place to be.
"For the children" and "to stop the terrorists" should be a clear signal that someone is trying to get an otherwise unlikely law enacted to please corporate interests or expand government power.
Copyright is a government granted monopoly given to the rights holder. In the U.S. it is supposed to be a "limited time" for what is now an obscenely large value of time.
I would argue that since these international cartels of rights holders work to circumvent the social contract that grants their monopolies, the publics lack of observation of these rights and outrage as to the extent of them is justified.
I am perfectly fine with the catch 22 of limiting Government over privacy concerns and limiting Corporations in the public space to such an extent that they are unable to enforce their rights.
I have problems with the government being used to squeeze every last possible penny out of a creative work for a corporate interest at the publics expense.
Except that mercury has not been used since the 70's, fluoride exists in some regions water naturally at levels above the additive and the health benefits for both FAR outweigh the risks. Just like violent video games may actually be harmful to some small insignificant portion of the population but that does not override the entertainment value for the rest.
Ooh nice. Mod points as usual, never around when you would like to use them. It would be kind of cool to have one daily mod point available, rather than the sporadic five.
Popunders BTW, I do not seem to get if Firefox.
I think a small brewer is hosed no matter what they do. At least in Texas, if you are not one of the 3 licensed distributors (Coors, Miller or Bud), you are breaking the law. Fact, it is cheaper for a bar to buy beer at the grocery store than from one of these distributors, but illegal to do so , in Texas.
Same thing for auto dealerships they have bought off the politicians such that it is against the law for an auto manufacturer to sell direct to a customer. So, you would never be able to go to, say the Ford web page and order a car or case of beer, like you would a Dell computer. These guys are the RIAA in spades.
"where all our jobs are within 5 minutes of our homes." There is such a place, they even have effective public transportation. I hear it is called "Western Europe"
"it was the only part of the university that turned a profit."
Someone needs to field a football team. It would be a bonus to have a team that the service academies could beat on a regular basis.
"Why is it video games are the new evil that's replaced song lyrics?"
What a wonderful question! I often ponder what the sociological/psychological motivation it is that drives a portion of the population to vilify imaginary evils. Whether it be witches or video games, comic books or Dungeons & Dragons, Alcohol or Rock & Roll, fluoridation or immunization; there seems to be a segment of the population that needs some imaginary social ill to oppose. Why these do gooders can not focus on something real and meaningful like government corruption or mentally illness induced poverty, I can not imagine.
I'd be inclined to call it Chicken Little Syndrome, but Google tells me that a whole host of people are laying claim to that title.
Is it just me, or does this ailment largely affect Soccer moms?
I have been eagerly anticipating it for a long time. I do plan to get a version of this game that does not include the phone home activation. I am willing to pay for that version. But if I have to download a cracked version to do so, I am less inclined to pay.
I love Wright's stuff. I own, paid for, versions of every title he has released, including Sim Ant and every Sims Expansion. I, however, refuse to pay for "rentware." I will never buy XP, or anything that uses Steam. Galactic Civ 1 and 2. Those I pay for. That is the respectable model.
"I don't see anything wrong with trying to delay the piraters so they might actually go out and purchase the game."
Strangely I find it pretty easy to find something wrong with DRM. It will be cracked before the game hits the store shelves, so it's only remaining purpose is to take control of what I would have been willing to pay for from me. The value of the free version exceeds the value of the paid for version. So why would I pay?
I sure would like to BUY this game when it comes out. But due to the draconian DRM, it looks like something I would be getting from the torrents instead.
"The need for restore disks isn't as vital as for Windows."
Ubuntu sucks in this regard. I purchased a Ubuntu laptop from Dell. It now sits dead due to the bad update that I got from Ubuntu that changed my video to an unsupported res and disabled audio.
I know how to fix this in Windows. Press F8 to boot into safe mode. Dammed if I know how to fix it in Linux. This should be fixable from the GUI, but all the support I can find requires some kind of CLI fix. Fuck that. For Linux to be a "Real" OS anything that can be done via CLI should be doable in the GUI.
Linux ain't there yet.
That reminds me of my basic training where our "Sister" flight was female. For the "Confidence" course 92% of the males passed the course while only 50% of the females passed their course that had obstacles that were 50% as high or long. Granted, the average American woman is in general in poor shape relative to the average male and 2 of our sister flights members requested to be allowed to run the male side of the course, but denied. Also 2 of the men in our flight failed the course, but one of them was 39. Based on the demographics of our sister flight, the average ~18 YO woman in the US is kind of tubby.
I suspect that a large part of the problem is social in that American families as a rule do not hold daughters to the same standard they do their sons.
The best developer on my team is female but she is the only domestic female on my team. It is telling the 50% of the H1-B's in our group are female and that they are largely as good at what they do as the male H1-B's. If the USA implemented a quota system, I doubt that would be true for domestic female workers.
For those who bet big on the SUV, their fate looks grim. The same could be said for those who's business is non digital distribution of information. The writing is on the wall for CD's and DVD's HD, or not.

I just want them defeated. On merit would be a bonus.

"usability" So important to drive adoption, so neglected by the community.

Somehow the idea of visiting a worlds full of penis people and goatse guys, does not appeal.

For what a Pentium 4?
"The melting point of Tin is 231.9681 C."
I was thinking mercury but that seems awful toxic. The gallium alloy think is interesting though.

Why would anyone get the first 3 seasons? They were awful.
