I would really like to see a similar study, where they replace "video racing games" with the latest James Bond movie, and see what kind of response they get.
On a broader scale, a study to answer the following question: "Does ___ influence (violent behavior | aggressive driving | general bloodthirstiness)?" and fills in the blank with a book, a movie, and a video game with the same subject matter, and see which has the greatest effect.
Look at the iMacs: computer and monitor in one. The iMac line has always been closer in kind to the TV/VCR combo units than PC's or other Macs, with the possible exception of laptops, but I'm not sure if laptops count as "convergent" products.
Recently, my sister came to visit me, and she has rarely (if ever) played any console games. I introduced her to Katamari Damacy, and when she first started playing it, she was saying things like "I'm no good at video games, I don't know how to do this, etc etc". And then she stayed up until 2 am playing it, and got up early the next morning to play it some more.
We 3 Katamari has a couple benefits: it's very easy to learn, it has a cooperative mode, and it has competitive levels, which also have a pretty short learning curve. So overall it works pretty well for new gamers.
The "one musician" was in fact signed on with Sony, and he has yet to receive any royalties for any of his music, even after sending numerous letters of complaint.

...now feels justified in spending another 15 minutes reading slashdot.

Wouldn't that be... er... "Comet"?
