When people say that IE loads in less than a second, it makes me wonder. Does it really load in less than a second or is it just running already [for the most part]. I use Mozilla primarily, but I also use Opera [regularly], Netscape sometimes, and IE when I don't want to worry about a page acting funny AND for when I just want to check something on Google.

It loads fast because it needs to be there quickly when you type a URL into the address field of an open directory window. In my opinion [educated or not] IE is mostly loaded before you even click on the little blue 'e'.

Now, all the computers you see in the store run Windows and always have the screen blankers on with password protection so you can't use it anyway.

Its not the high priced charge that benefits customers, but the fact that there is more than one company/product out there for customers to choose from. Its all about evolution and competition. Unfortunately, like everyone has already mentioned, Microsoft is in a position that pretty much removes it from any business-like evolution [essentially limitless cash reserves].

It would definitely be a better situation that you could choose between 2+ players [evolutionary pressure on each product] and pay $25 for the quality product you want than to have only one free player available that is master of the market and not evolving.
