  1. Re:CompUSA brand on Who Makes the Best Power Supplies? · · Score: 2
I seem to recall reading somewhere that when the whole ATX form factor was dreamed up, putting the CPU near the power supply and having the power supply fan move air (I forget in which direction) over the CPU for added cooling was an intentional part of the design.

Of course I'm convinced that the real reason for introducing a replacement for the AT form factor was to make those bulletproof old cases and power supplies obsolete in order to force people to buy entire new computers instead of upgrading piece by piece.

As someone without an unlimited supply of funds who has a desire to avoid feeding landfills any more than absolutely necessary as well as an affection for old hardware (but precious little room available for adopting any more), I feel perfectly justified in assuming that they did it just to annoy me. :-)

Anybody know where I can get a mid to full tower ATX case with power supply for about $20 USD including shipping to coastal NC?

Someone should explain that whole horse-barn door thing to Congress.

There's no way a foreign company is going to put up with the US government being able to read their stuff like it was a plain text postcard. "Why no, Airbus, we didn't pass on the amount of your bid to the people at Boeing who donate millions to our campaign funds. You can trust us. Really."

Do they expect OBL to stop using whatever crypto he uses now and to change to the new improved with a backdoor built in version?

Bin Laden used to use cell phones and satellites, now he uses the internet the way it was originally designed to be used, as a military communications tool. If they can find his messages but not read them, will they shut down the internet to block his messages? What happens when AOL starts screaming about being put out of business? Or do they have a plan for a different type of internet, one where they provide and charge for the content, just like cable television, and all the user stuff sent back upstream goes through the NSA computers before the government allows it to get where it's supposed to go?

When you're on the air it is considered very unprofessional to not be in control. Your job is to deliver the news and let the audience decide for themselves how they are supposed to feel about it.

If you get a chance sometime, watch the clip of Walter Cronkite announcing the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. You see him start to choke up, you see it get to him (and this was a guy who had seen plenty of World War II's horrors), but then you see him pull himself together and act like a professional broadcaster. Not a robot, a human, but one that knows how to do his job.

Something that did cross my mind yesterday-the House Intelligence Committee is apparently going to be quite busy, too busy to take time to worry about removing him from that committee, and nobody has the time to talk about calling on him to resign any more. He just may salvage his political career while we're all looking elsewhere. (Unless his political enemies find a way to tie him to Osama Bin Laden)
