When I was small I remember sitting on my mother's lap writing GW Basic code with her. She got me a book out of the university library on programming because I wanted to make an Indiana Jones game, like the Last Crusade that we had for our 286.
New Scientist had an article about the effect of semen on women. The gist of it was that "ingestion" reduces the unwanted immune system reaction to the stuff when you need it for impregnation.
As I recall, the front cover was a milk style carton with "Semen" written on the side.
I've always wondered how the/. effect is different to spam.
Both claim to be beneficical to the, shall we say, victim. "Information about special offers is useful", "They get more people looking at their banners".
Both use up bandwidth and cause charges to the victim.
Spam is often redundant - "I've seen this bloody spam a hundred times" - and we all know how redundant slashdot can be...
Both can be defended by saying that if you publish your address (site or email) then people can use it.
Nobody opts into the/. effect but still recieve it, so why are people up in arms about nobody opting into spam but still receiving it?
"They couldn't give those damn diamonds away for free."
Diamonds are very useful in industry. Just think - we could all have diamond tipped power tools, so they would be useful, and worth buying whatever. People buy less valuable rocks, don't they.
Can't someone with the beta (I'm sure at least one slashdotter does) does some examples of this XML file format? I thought it would be an obvious thing to do with the article...
I'm currently at "college", but you would call it "secondary school". When I go to "University" (you would call it "college") I might go to "University College, Durham University".
Actually when they removed automatic setting of get and post variables they broke a ton of PHP 3 example code, and I think it stumped a lot of people with PHP 3 books working with PHP 4.
When you recompile a new version, why not call it shell32_444.dll, for example, instead of shell32.dll. That way you could refer to the version you wanted by file name.

I've been programming ever since...
That is a very good analogy. I shall be remembering it...
Thanks for that mate. Didn't bother to read the article, did ya?

I am *not* kidding.
Group approval? By flaming against farscape? They'll probably get together to put a price on my head.
If you need fulfillment from television shows, you know it's time to stop watching.
Exactly.
I've never really liked the Haiku format. So the what fuck if it has so many syllabus, it just doesn't sound interesting.
Theyr'e not even easy to remember because their blank.

My school's buildings date from 1586 - 417 years.
Most of the houses around me now have been here at least a hundred years. They just built them and they stayed up. Victorians were good at that.

How's that for confusing?
Anyway, the title "A College Without Microsoft?" would suggest this is a college, not a university.
Eh? What do you mean? A college is part of a university - "Oriel College, Oxford", for example.
Greenshift? What the fuck is that?
I think you mean Blueshift.
The correct quote is:
"That word you keep using... I do not think it means what you think it means."

I've always wondered, why are they ribbions? Why not simply roll the ribbons up into cables? Can anyone enlighten me?
I think it's subscription as in the NYT sense (or it was .5 years ago when I downloaded GTA)
Here, along with GTA London and GTA 2.
mfc42.dll - there you go, MFC 4.2
Another example is MSVBVM60.DLL, Microsoft Visual Basic Virtual Machine 6.0
If it works sometimes, why don't they always do it?

You could let them think that you were "eating the cost", but everyone ones it would simply be passed to the customers in the end.
