1080i looks much better then 480p. 540p uses the same display timings as 1080i but only has half the resolution.
The usual argument is that 720p is a better solution than 1080i since you would avoid the possibility of any stairstepping while panning (read: sports broadcasts).
Either way, all of the options look much better than 480i. I personally find it hard to watch anything larger than a 27in screen w/o progressive scan.
We're not neccessarily talking about TV here. You can have 1080p native material stored on DVD or on a RAID array. Also, scaling to 1080p isn't out of the question. Many people currently scale to 720p or 1080i.
"Besides, with AOTC making over 100 billion in its first weekend, and they still had shitty actors, I doubt you will see better effects or acting."
Actually, they just had shitty performances. Check out Hayden Christensen in "Life as a House" or Ewan in just about anything except "Black Hawk Down" or "Eye of the Beholder".
Actually, from what I remember, it's illegal for the record industry to pay for play. I can tell you, however, that the prizes for many of the giveaways and contests in some way come from the music industry.
Or.. I could have actually read the link (to the FAQ) to see if it had changed since the last time I read it. I remember this being discussed heavily on the tivocommunity forum. I guess I now remember that there was no -good- way to do w/ w/o losing other functionality and that would survive a reboot.
BTW, for those that knew Tivolutionary (from the tivocommunity forums), his last day @ TiVo was Friday.:(
Actually, the 30-sec skip was not included in the 2.x version of the software (currently on 2.5). I neverf really like the 30-sec skip, anyway. I tend to fast forward through commercials on the 2md fastest FF speed and always stop for something that looks interesting. I at least -skim- the commercials.
Thats $30 Canadian. Which comes out to about $4US...
har har...
Seriously, $30CAD is like $19.28US.
Hmmm.. Nightmares on Wax. Haven't listened to that in ages..

Yes, 1080p/60 was included in the HiDef spec.

For some reason I just got a vision of Star Office only working on Sun Linux ala Microsoft Windows + Microsoft Office.

I bought a decent tv (mitsubishi 65in widscreen) and then build a HTPC to play DVDs and scale them to HiDef resolutions.
I'll upgrade to a projector when I move into a house again.
