TiVo has recently discontinued the Lifetime Service offering. Also, for the DirecTV + TiVo combo boxes, the TiVo subscription fee (now only $4.95) is waived if you subscribe the highest tier of satellite programming (Total Choice Platinum).
The DirecTV + TiVo combo units will do this. As a matter of fact, you can record 2 shows on different channels while watching something you've previously recorded. I think that a standalone dual-tuner DVR would be more expensive since it would have to have 2 mpeg encoders. The satellite combo boxes are less expensive since just store the stream as it comes in.
"The company "will modify the timing and modulation of the light used to create the displayed image such that frame-based capture by recording devices is distorted,"
"It would seem to me that in the long haul, Microsoft would support such efforts because they could sell more devices (and potentially more software if they licensed an opensource validation library)... "
Well, if they weren't selling the devices at a loss I'm sure that just "selling more devices" would be acceptable. They have ot make their money back somewhere (software & accessories).
I agree. I hate it when people try to pigeon-hole TiVo as "just another DVR".
I don't think that TiVo is a "one trick pony" either.
There are things that TiVo can do for you that no other DVR (to my knowledge) has implemented: Suggestions. I love the fact that I can rate (thumbs up/down) programming and have the unit automatically record things that it "thinks" you would like.
The service will still be through by TiVo but provided by DirecTV. DirecTV gets top (only) billing now. I think "Powered By TiVo" was the phrase I heard thrown around.
yes, but the m105 was originally more expensive. it only dropped to the $99 range when it was discontinued.
btw, if you know what avantgo is, you know where to get it. if you don't have it and dont' know what it is, do you really miss it? besides, this unit only has 2MB. avantgo would only fill up the "entry level" amount of memory.
yes, i think that the lack of backlight is a big mistake. i could never own (another) pda without a backlight. but remember, this unit isn't for the pda connoisseur. its for the k-mart, target, walmart crowd. an "affordable" palm handlheld to get them hooked on the technology.
I took a look at Southwest's website. Its not like its Flash laden or anything. OK, what I want to know is why is it Southwest Airlines' fault that the screen reader (what is basically "third party software" as far as they are concerned) can't read their website? Shouldn't it be the responsiblity of the company that produces the screen reader to improve their product?
Breaking Titanic's records? How about Spiderman and Harry Potter?
Titanic is still the highest grossing all-time but thats really only one of two records it has left. Spidey picked it off for fastest to $100M, $200M, and $300M. Spidey is on the way to de-throning it from its other record, "the fastest to $400M".
note to self: don't post before your first cup...
The Tungsten W is not an OS5 machine, but the Tungsten T is.
"...and for that matter Palm 5.0 (which has not yet been released), are evolutionary."
Actually, Palm released the first PalmOS 5 units (the Tungsten T/W)on Monday. They have been available in stores since last Friday.
Funny.. the advertisement on the page w/ he article is the "Its better with the Butterfly" MSN 8 add.
I just tried +INT((2^47)/(10^INT(LOG(2^47)))) in Excel 2000 and it returned the proper value (1). Looks like they fixed that one.

It doesn't even have to compile. Or maybe it COULD compile and it would be like an easter egg. Sort of like the treat in the box of Cracker Jacks.
"Wow, this is really great information. Now I wonder what it code does?"
Just as a side note, those prices are less than half of what those units cost when they were first released.
Also, the new Series II combo boxes are supposed to be $199.

He more than likely has a patent on part of the newer, re-designed version.

This is basically how macrovision works for VCRs.

I know that the Tungsten T is supposed to be 175mhz. I haven't really looked up the others since this was the only one I was interested in.
He'll turn 50 on the 25th...
You do know that Trillian is skinnable, right? The default skin is fugly as hell, but I'm currently using the Microscopic skin. Nice and clean.

But not his MOST recent SCiFi outing...
