Wouw, you should spent some time reading up on subjects, and perhaps think about your posts before putting your head so far up your arse.
If B applies then why does A apply? In A you say cater to those who needs it, in B you say don't? Also, have that tiny little brain of yours ever wondered why the ladies in tampon commercials are so pretty? Those commercials aren't targeted at your wife, they are for the men, we have no idea what to buy, so when the shoppinglists says tampon, your brain will serve up pretty little lady in advertisement for named brand.
Also on a related note, "fatties" are very much fighting their genetically programmed cravings. Good for you that you steered around that pit, now lets see what all those years of smoking, drinking and inhaling polutted air is doing for your health?
Err, not everyone lives in countries with no consumer rights.
I can go at 40-50mbit all day both directions and not a word from my ISP (capped by my inferior linksys router, actual line speed is 60mbit) - what they have realised around here is most people wont be going "balls-out" all day on their connection, there is simply a maximum for how much information any given pira.. err user can crave.
Because you are often on a tight schedule defined by someone so far away from programming he thinks it's done like in Swordfish.
Also a note on your fat ass comment - some might have it that easy, but quite a lot are fighting "programming" in their genes. Dropping 10% of your weight will cause all sort of hormones to fire, your body is programmed to think it's in distress and send hormones out trying to force you to regain weight. I know from experience how fucking hard it is, it is absolutely doable, but it does require a solid foundation of people helping you through it.
Err, perhaps you should actually watch the series?
Whole point of the Cylon attacks is number 6 fucks the brains out of Baltasar in exchange for direct access to the defense main frames - how do you propose to explain unhindred access to a tin box?
There is one problem with the system, since the order has been shreded, I can only tell that my vote has been counted in the order I voted, but I can't verify that the count goes towards the people I chose since the order is always random.
Also, he talks about hand verification, I can't see how that can happen without the 256bit encryption key being supplied to those unscrambling the data (you need to know the sequence to hand count it)) - that means criminals can get hold of the key and that means criminals can check your vote and system has been broken.
My sister was withheld for 4 hours at an Israeli check point for questioning; her skin tone is slightly dark and could easily be mistaken for northern Muslim - even though she has a Danish passport, born by Danish parents and lived most of her life here. Her travelling companion however, was let right through the gates, milky white complexion and carrying drugs.
My database which is running pretty damned fast (general purpose) spends around 30.000 microseconds on simple add/update/inserts (timed from middle-ware calling), having a computer respond to anything in 126 microseconds is down right impressive.
A billion here and a billion there, who's counting?
What one really should notice about this is they can get someone on Mars for $10 billion; why the fuck haven't they started yet? 20 billion dollars poured into the US economy, into research and development and finally into production would probably have done a heck of a lot more than the trillions wasted on trying to save a few fat cats.
I really really love how you guys make suggestions for how the carriers should do it based on your little home network experience.
Remember, the networks in question a coexisting with technology that goes all the way back to 1980s, no one back then thought a user might be wanting to push a GB of data through a single handset.
Voice overs can be nice, but not in a MMORPG. It's so fucking frustrating to stand around and wait for the big boss to end his dialogue before you embark on your next spectacular wipe.
In WoW some dialogues can take several minutes, which will make you lose focus and get you agitated since it's wasting precious raid time. LK for instance will give you a solid 2-3 minutes worth of speeches, add run time buff time etc. you are wasting more time getting to the fight than the actual fight (most groups won't make it beyond 60% health which doesn't take more than 7-10 minutes).
Each transaction is several KB, even small carriers like the one I work for can generate millions of rows, bigger carriers are in the billions, the data is collected, packed and then shipped off.
Also, billing is not a trivial matter, we make thousands and thousands of very small transactions. Having the data shipped real time around the world (think thousands of operators exchanging data at very high speed) is an extremely costly matter and I bet you as a consumer wouldn't want to pay for it.
Also, due to the huge amount of data, billing is in many cases handled on secondary systems, scaling to handle billing realtime is again a non-trivial matter; obviously solvable, but not without its costs.
We use drools for quite a lot of stuff, some of it is high level and not for the KAMs, but we expect them to maintain decision tables for our core engine based on their sales.
The "programming" of rules can be quite daunting, but using the spreadsheet option, it's a walk in the park.
Wonder how far the FCC (and EU) has their heads stuck up their arses. Yes it would be awesome if customers could get these informations real time (or close to), but most companies aren't exchanging TAP data real time, the information can be as much as 14 days delayed.
Either the governments should just revoke the carriers licenses and make telephony the way they think it should be or stay the fuck out of our business. If they think there is price fixing (EU) or unfair practices going on then deal with it through legal means.
In fact you have to know where the menu is, press X then right a few times and make sure you accept the agreement.
In case of a car, you need to know where the handle for opening the bonnet is, know what knob hides the oil and then know how to open a container of oil and pour it in. I see no problem charging $30 for either service...
That is actually a big problem in the future in my opinion - all the major players are going to have their own P2P program bundled, and frankly they suck, I'd much rather have uTorrent handling the patch download, that way I can better control the bandwith usage and priority of the patch being downloaded. Having 3 MMOs updating at once, will just have them fight out a battle for bandwith.
I'd hate to see a complicated problem if you consider that trivial...
I know they have talked about making it tampering resistant, but downright threatened to sue? When did that happen?

Not sure where you live, but convinience food is often cheaper than making it yourself in many parts of the western world.

Actually a mountain is a pretty damned good way of defending yourself against a nuke.
Your average nuke will go off mid-air to create most havoc, this will destroy most things above ground, but it sure as hell won't remove a mountain.

And this is why you should go watch the movie...

You might want to go out more - even my mom is looking into upgrading her VHS+DVD combo to BR.
I will probably find me a cheaper mouse for Diablo 3 than my G9 - for the exact same reasons :)
Really?

other than your flaming, 30ms is not microseconds.
And as someone else pointed out 30.000 is due to locality the same as you yanks would write: 30,000.
Yeah was thinking the same.

I believe and hope to whatever god there might be that NK will work like that - but to be honest, I'd prefer not to find out how they handle nukes :)
Yeah me too, was considering just giving up on slashdot. The dynamic discussion is a big nono.

Disclaimer I (obviously) work for a carrier.
The rules of engagement only applies to the losing side.
Err no, it doesn't.
