This question is being discussed every time machine plays against grandmaster. Definitive answer is white. That one tempo makes (very often) all the difference when opponents are of the same/similar strength (in chess terms).
Well, that would be clear if they only did not miss the second part of Rob's report. Here it goes:
...a week later...
...when I went to see my associate testers for Knoppix For Kids, I was very unpleasantly surprised - not only that they have not prepared the report for my Newsforge Knoppix review, they haven't even started testing process!
"Why?" I asked.
Earl (5), still excited because of the late Christmas gift from a funny, bold guy who kept jumping all over the place, didn't even want to answer. He just gave me a finger and went down the road on his shiny, new battery powered bike, shouting:
"And he makes cooler software, too - he just won an award on some computer show in New York!"
U2/Britney comparison seemed handy, since already mentioned in parent's post. Judging as objectivelly as possible, U2 produced music of immensly better quality than Britney ever will. I personally stopped listening U2 stuff released after Rattle&Hum but that's another story.
What I was trying to say and obviously failed to do, was the fact that there is much greater possibility someone will copy quality stuff (in this case U2) over trash. People whose preference is U2 are not likely to buy/download any of Britney's crap but kids who buy Britney would probably want U2, as well, moreso due to the fact that U2, as you correctly pointed out, is overhyped, too.
Now, that's only 'content' part of the whole story. You are absolutely right about the 'technology' part. Somehow, I just can't see us getting lucky anytime soon.
I'd say your U2||Britney comparison is fair. However, you're forgetting the fact that millions of pre-teenage children convince their dumb parents that ~$30 is also fair price for Britney garbagge.
Companies know this and they make $30 a CD of you on U2 + $30 a CD of people who fall for marketing bullshit.
Now guess, do companies lose more money on copying U2 or Britney stuff?
The only aim of this alliance is protection of their revenues. If government decides to legalise copy protection as proposed by Entertainment industry, that would make existing hardware obsolete and new products much more expensive, thus quickly reducing revenue streams. This is what they state on ADP web site, anyway.
Sure, not all members are technology companies but I have no doubts whatsoever that some of them ( Business Civil Liberties, Inc.
Citizens Against Government Waste,
Citizens for a Sound Economy,
Computer Systems Policy Project,
Consumer Alert,
Defenders of Property Rights) have already received fund injections, just to appear on that list.
After all, clones won't be a boring copies of their originals.
I would appreciate, though if somebody here can explain why doesn't same genetic pattern produce same phisycal characteristics. It's obvious that behaviour is influenced by some other factors, as well but phisycal differences seem ilogical. Thanks.
Whoever thinks that Michael Robertson is of a calibre to replace Bruce Perens as a keynote speaker on a supposidely 'vendor independent' Linux conference, is a clueless jackass.
No, I don't think most of that. It was just a (aparently successful) troll. However, I still think that Linux is very cool, even more than I think it is. And I do think that Apple is in a pretty deep shit as far as education desktop market is concerned. They've got two tough competitors - monopolyst and very cool free (as in everything 'free' implies) OS.
I wonder how long will it take to pass this law internationally. You know, people from all over the world are on P2P networks like Kazaa, yet it looks like Americans will pick up the entire bill in the beginning. Is RIAA itself powerful enough to get this going in EU, Asia-Pacific, South America? I mean, do they have their bitches in govt structures everywhere? Or perhaps amount is so fucking large that Bush is willing to press others into quick legislation of this paranoid thievery?
It looks to me that it's freaking last second for US people to do something to save themselves and everybody else from corporate fascism.
Speaking about or giving advice on electrical devices should imply that the speaker/adviser knows how to properly spell the name of one of the greatest minds ever.
It's Tesla. Telsa is wife of Linux hacker Alan Cox and does not make coils.
Because bananas are triploidal instead of diploidal, they are only able to reproduce asexually, which means that it adapts slower than organisms reproducing sexually.
Is there any other plant in the world that reproduces sexually?
What's Apple going to do? They will keep losing.edu Desktop market share to both MS and OpenSource, for various reasons.
There doesn't seem to be much they actually can do, unless they drastically change their business model/strategy. But in what way? Buying out MandrakeSoft may open some interesting options for them. Just a thought...
Due to a fear that they may lose good chunk of revenue? This, of course is caused by bargening game that various governments play using Linux as an opt-out option.
Sencere Microsoft wish to provide much better service to, at least, their most profitable clients?
My thinking revolves around the second option but same old stupid remarks about competing with completely open platform by opening parts of the code tend to drag me toward the first one.
I am not sure why did I put the third option, somehow doesn't look right - we're talking Microsoft here. More I think about it more sure I am that it can be ignored.
Perhaps you're right but this particular one was disgusting. There are, you know, some things with which you just do not even try to joke. Such as 3000 deaths. And no, I am not an American and nobody I know died at WTC.
Of course it's always the same old good bashing. What would you expect as a reaction to ALWAYS THE SAME bullshit Microsoft are able to pull-of all these years?
It definitely smells more in US than in Denmark. You've been screwed again - you'll get $5 voucher for your copy of Word, big corporate with thousands of MS licenses will get hundreds of thousands bucks and California govt will push more MS crap into schools. All this won't cost Bill a dime.
BTW, Larry Wall is Larry Wall. On the other hand you're just an AC weasel. Go fuck yourself.
He is perhaps young enough and there still may be some hope for him. Process isn't ireversible and unhooking is possible if damage is discovered in an early stage.
Why would anybody be worried over this if they are not involved in anything fishy? Just don't get drunk like an animal and roll all over the pavement, do not cheat on your wife, if you must work for foreign government, do it secretly and be clever, things like that.
Chances are, involvement in any of these activities would be exposed sooner or later, new phones could make this just a bit quicker.
You are wrong. We do use ghosting software to rebuild broken Windows machines and I must say, quite extensivelly. However, our Linux machines have not broke once - it is not possible for users and/or crapy programs to break them. They are not dumb terminals either, they just use NFS mounted (if you happen to know what that means)/usr partition for the sake of admin convenience.
Average 'real world' network is unfortunatelly largely populated with Windows clients, due to numerous reasons but mainly because of Microsoft's 'lock-in forever' startegy based on (mostly) MS Office / VB code. That's going to change soon, trust me.
I just hope that f(ree)s(oftware)s(ong) and s(teve)b(almer)s(ong) won't be included.

you seem to be over-confident, linking from /. to your site

No surprises here, my friends.

Being part of middle management doesn't necessary imply incompetence and if the organisation is fairly large, clever middle management is necessity.
Oh yes, thanks for the link - it will be useful to determine if Six Sigma looks like just another meaningless exercise to spend funds on.

Mod me down more, that won't change a bit.

Not even in your fucking dreams, Michael Robertson!

First link returned by Google on 'mom linux' is http://sourceforge.net/projects/isectd. Says there it's stable/production dev status.

As far as I know, in the case of racketeering protection is offered in return. Protection from racketeers but still...

I, my friend, would strongly advise you to follow this thread very, very carefully. It may help you to avoid some serious problems in the future.
I am not joking.
Chances are, involvement in any of these activities would be exposed sooner or later, new phones could make this just a bit quicker.
Otherwise, it's clearly a non-issue.
