Because in the windows world ctrl-a is select all, and as the vast majority of people that are seeking a simple, easy to use interface are coming from the windows world, they expect to have the same key shortcuts. As for fixing this, I don't know how gnome does this, but kde has a real slick key bindings dialog that lets you easily change key bindings accross all kde applications.

But the beauty of Gentoo is that you don't need to move your whole system to the unstable tree in order to install a single package in the unstable tree. Unlike Debian wherif you are running woody and you want a package out of sarge or sid, you have to move you whole system to the testing/unstable tree.

I would add to that list two things: One, maintain a high level quality of encoding. Most of the ripped stuff that you can get via p2p/irc/etc is really crappily encoded with ancient mpeg-4 codecs and makes for rather unpleasant viewing (well so I've heard, ;) ). Two, maintain a massive selection with a huge variety of content. With a massive selection that goes back 30+ years worth of movies, that kind of service would be almost irresistable.

Actually, 4'33" isn't actually silence. It's all the "unintentional," and random environmental sounds that go on wherever its "played". As such, there is no real creative "composition" that can be copywrited and just making absolutely silent mp3's 4'33" long misses the point of the song. However, I do think that a recording of the "performance" of the song can be copywrited, but such a recording would not be completely silent.

Getting a bank to give you a loan just by having a decent buisness plan is typically not enough. You have to have good credit, some type of collateral, or a cosigner with collateral and good credit, and likely a couple of well to do references.
