The DC died partly due to the ease of pirating the games. The PS2 has survived because it's the "cool" system to have. I don't find jaggies and slowdown cool, so I have not made such a purchase. The DC still has something that none of the newer consoles have done yet, good online multiplayer games. I think you need to look in the mirror and realize who else is a fanboy.
They are supposed to be adding some more features to multiplayer, such as being able to use the Banshees. Basically those who've played Halo will be playing Halo 2, and the Halo PC community will probably be pretty small.
The XBox is slated in many reviews and by many people to look much better than the PS2. "Doesn't look any better than the DreamCast", that's got to be some kind of sick joke.
Take Spider-man (the movie game) for instance. It was released on the PS2, GameCube, and the XBox. The PS2 version has slowdown, jaggies, and the occasional nasty texture. The XBox version has none of these problems.
My guess is you're too busy trying to flame to get your info right.
The XBox is sounding like a better deal at the moment. Yes, you will have to spend ~$150 on extra equipment to play FFXI online, as well as a monthly fee. The earlier days of the DreamCast and free gaming appear to be gone. My guess is that PS2 games will have their own montly costs for online games. However, big companies like EA may make small versions of the XBox Live network for their games, minimizing the monthly costs. Also, if you plan to use the Linux kit, you will need two PS2 HDs. The one you install Linux on becomes unuseable for the other games. The only game currently announced for the PS2 to use the HD is FFXI. ($200 + monthly fees for one game, ugh.)
Hope this helps.
The NIC was a great option for where I am. Almost everyone has a hub, and TVs are a dime a dozen as well. It's interesting to LAN with an XBox. A lot easier and less space involved than with PCs. More games that utilize such features would be nice.
I would rather pay $35 to have an optional DVD player than have one that comes with that is skippy and does not play many movies correctly. (PS2) I wouldn't call the quality of the DVD playback in the XBox poor if you are compairing to a $65 DVD unit. If you look at those, they will probably have the skip in audio in the middle of the movie as well as in other places. The XBox does not have this problem with current movies. Why buy a $65 DVD player that looks like a VCR when you can buy one for a little more that also plays games? (Okay, the price diff is a bit bigger) But still, even in the $150 range you can end up with a crap DVD player.
On a side note, I bought a $200 DVD player a couple years ago, and now it skips in the audio. Pretty lame.
Yes, but you get in game 5.1 at a lost, whereas on the XBox it might as well be free. The PS2 must use one of its vector units to decode the audio for 5.1 sound. This is why MGS2 does not have in game audio, because it can't process everything with one vector unit. The XBox on the other hand has a separate chip to handle this while the GFX chip churns away at pretty things.
You are correct. There are laws in place that say that if you tell someone to stop calling, legally they must. At that point if they call again, legal action can be taken against them. In some states, this also applies to e-mail, mainly SPAM. In Washington, SPAM must have a valid unsubscribe option as well as making it clear where the e-mail did indeed come from. (IE not faking a return address.)
This is what I remember, and some of it may not be true any more. However, I am pretty certain on the phone part.
Yes I know what modular means. I happen to be a programmer. However, I'd say that most of the people out there do not. It's kind of like a graph. You have the people at the top who know how to do things like this. Then there are the people they are friends with who do not, and some who do. They link to more people, etc etc. And eventually you get to the average Joe who barely knows how to press the connect button to start up AOL.
Did any of you think for a moment that maybe they're trying to protect us from something horrible with the comment about the Start Button? What if your start button/menu was replaced with an ad. That'd get old fast, but it's all completely possible. I know companies like Gateway would love it. Okay, now let's take it a step further and say that all your windows now have built in ads. That gets old even faster, but it's still within the realm of possibility.
As far as the other OS's being installed, I agree that they should not be able to say that Windows is the only thing that can be installed, but I do think that they should not have to support a computer that has something else installed that they do not make. You expect MS to walk computer illiterates through a Linux problem? You must be joking. You have to think about it from a technical standpoint, it's just not good.
At least MS is better than Apple, they allow you to choose your hardware. Apple seems to have been more monopolistic as to what they allow on/in their hardware/software. They even ignored developers for a long while. Look where this has lead them, into the slumps. They no longer develop an OS, but an OS theme. They sue people for things that look too similar to theirs.

Hey, a post about stuff we already knew about! Whoohooo!
