  1. Really? When I began HS, Carter was prez. I was republican all the way up to Bush. I am here to tell you that the Millenials are actually correct here. The young ones aren't lying, they've been handed a shit sandwich, just like myself and may others who were dumb enough to believe the BS so many yrs ago.

Capitalism being fair? It was never designed to be. I spent the last 30 yrs working my ass off making others far richer than I'll ever be, and I'm still in the same tax bracket.... so yeah I'm pissed. And nowdays I'm Independent, because what goes around comes around.

  2. Same here, NY requires you to be registered D or R and *entire year* before any primaries, or no joy for you. Its just incredibly screwed without lube.

Seems like none of these assclowns has heard of "peering agreements". Like I said before the content creators that I deal with, don't depend on the ad revenue, they have their own streams. *not* going thru yourube isn't a great choice, because their market pull is so huge. If the peering agreements don't cover all their expenses, then it's time for them to re-negotiate them. Not time for me to have all my shit covered with other peoples ads.

*sigh* OK then I quit youtube altogether. Now how much are those advertising eyeballs worth? . In fact I *do* have a problem with it. Its not like these are poor little startups without any cash. I'll just send them a bill for the bandwidth maybe. And as far as the content creators go, none of the "how-to" community that I'm in, depends on ad revenue.

I think his point is that this is basically double-dipping, since youtube is owned by google, and is therefore publicly traded at a hefty profit. As far as paying content creators, all the ppl I watch do the occasional in-video product endorsement, or depend on donations. Since they are working pros in the field the product endorsements are pretty solid and reliable. They are also promoting their own shops and businesses with "how-to" videos.

  8. Most execs can be replaced with a small perl script, at massive savings for the shareholders. After all, its always about the most value for the shareholders, right? We actually need to work on this idea as a slashdot group, and publicly promote it; perhaps via social media. It would for sure change the political landscape a bit.

Speaking from the USA here, how much money have we pissed away in the mideast? Where did the money come from to bail out the banks? If we can afford to do that shit then we can damn well afford this.

Printing money? That is exactly what we do, because we can. The US is sovereign an its own currency, and it is the global reserve. It is backed up by the full faith and force of the US gov't. Not that I entirely agree with things, but that is how it is. The gov't doesn't really need your tax money, they simply use taxes to shape social policy.

The reason why this Universal income will never fly in the USA is because the powers that be won't let it -- and the reason why they won't let it fly is because if everyone's basic needs are met then there is no way they can threaten people with firing, layoffs, H1-B's etc. If you have money coming in besides your job, it is that much less power that the corps have over you. And it is the corps that own the congressmen.

Does that make sense? Just my observations/IMHO anyway.

  21. 1500/mo works out to around 12/hr after taxes. Same thing I was making at my last job with 3 certifications (at my own expense) and 30 yrs experience in the field. Hey, its the American way!
