A lot of developers use ActiveX controls and thereby lock their web apps into Windows. I'm not talking about just in-house development, but major software vendors (business intelligence, ERP). Microsoft is brilliant in their lock-in strategies and developers keep taking the bait. My CIO would love to introduce Mac desktops for some users, but the Web apps are the snag.
You're a German arguing about American morality in World War II? You don't think Japan or Germany or the USSR would have used the bomb if they had it first? Stalin would have made Germany a smoking crater.
Hindsight is 20/20. The U.S. was in a World War that it didn't start and wanted to end as quickly as possible. The bomb didn' t yet have the stigma is has now, because it had never been used. It was seen as simply another, better weapon.
I don't know where you got your source on Japan trying to surrender, but I doubt its veracity. It was pretty easy for them to surrender after Nagasaki. And you think only thousands would have died in a mainland invasion of Japan? Think of Dresden (which I agree was a war crime) and then multiply that by a few dozen large Japanese cities.
You may have thought the post was simplistic, but yours was hardly better.
That's what I thought once, except that the US dropped the first one on a city and Hirohito still didn't make a move. A demonstration would have been even less moving.
80% of New Yorkers voted against Bush, by the way. That aside, I live in NYC, so you just said you would like me and my family to die. I'm sure (I hope) you're like 18 and in some "phase", but that's no excuse for what you said. The U.S. is worse than Nazi Germany? It's sad that historical memory is fading that fast. I hope the judge sets your bail VERY high.
I had the same thought. I think every year since '98 we've heard reports that e-ink products would be available in two years. Seems there is finally some action on this front, just as Adobe is dropping ebooks.
You are completely correct, as I was searching to see if anyone made this comment first. I have two coworkers with red/green color blindness and they have problems with graphs and highlighted spreadsheets all the time.
Curious, what kind of hardware are you running? I haven't been able to read the slash screen since Word 6 on a 66MHz machine. I've seen Word open on hundreds of machines and it is generally instantaneous. I would consider 30 seconds slow for Photoshop much less Word.
I agree. I hate Microsoft's guts, but Word opens fast on Windows. I can't remember the last time the splash screen was even readable. It doesn't even take 20 seconds on a slow Mac.
Jobs is not "unaware" of shit. You seriously think Apple didn't explore the options? Anyway, if Apple wants to use AMD chips at some point down the line, what's to stop them? They can use both, just as they use Motorola and IBM processors today.

Clerk: Duracel or Eveready? Me: I'll take the piss.
The scrollwheel is the iPod, not the software. The physical interface to the iPod is what makes it compelling.

Penis envy would move out of the subconscious.
Right on, brother.

Apple will be able to use Intel or AMD chips if they want, just like Windows can.
Monty Burns had a plan to do this back in 1995. Of course his motivations were somewhat different.
Not.
I completely agree, but I would venture to guess it will be the cable companies that execute it, not Netfilx.
As soon as subscription-based HD video-on-demand becomes available, Netflix and Blockbuster will begin their final declines.

You nailed it. The scrollwheel is the key, critical differentiator for the iPod, other than iTunes integration.
Man, and I thought I was poor in college!

Stillborn.
..which was 50 bars of latiunum.
Hmm. Interesting. Odd that all my devices and software that I ran on my Intel box work perfectly on my new AMD box.

Apple will have the only official dual-boot-capable mac/pc computers. They will set a lot of boxes.
