  1. Re:Did you pass the test? Did you make more money? on LPIC 1 Exam Cram 2 · · Score: 1
I have LPIC 2, the test was not THAT hard (or actually it's two tests, 201 and 202) - I've learned everything by myself and haven't really read any Linux books until lately. Actually in both certificates I found the 101 and 201 tests a bit harder than the 102 and 202 - I think it generally is the other way round.

I was an enterpreneur at the time I did the tests. Then I got a nice offer from one of the cool companies and have been working for them for half a year now and am quite happy with my job.

Dunno whether the certificates had anything to do with me getting the job, though...

S3's work, it just doesn't support that well the transparency and xrand features (for example, the font shadows in KDE get dithered, same with the cursor shadow in Fedora 2). Also, you need to specify X_SERVER = S3 in lts.conf. Some of them work. Some don't. Someone please tell me how to tell the difference without trying.

    1) get a server, Raid1, 1G+ memory, gigabit ethernet. ie. the usual stuff.

    2) install mandrake linux official 10.0 on it

    3) install ltsp 4.1 http://www.ltsp.org/ on top of it

    4) get a load of old PC hardware (everything up from pentium goes, all you need is a non s3-grahic card and one spare pci-bus)

    5) rid the PCs with all moving parts (leave the fans though...)

    6) get pxe-booting network cards for the clients (100mbit is fine, via-rhine for example)

    7) fire up.

if you want to do it with new hardware, just buy some via epia+case combos =)

Mail me for more details - I can also do the actual job if being paid =)

They really should make a law that forces software companies to release the source code of products that are no longer supported - at least for bugfixes. Scenario: There is a new bug found in an old software that is no longer supported. The owner of the buggy code has 2 options; a) fix it and release the patches for the compiled code. b) release the source code of the faulty software (under GPL or whatever) so others can do so.

I have two friends who make their living by selling virtual stuff in EverQuest. The one who started it first now makes about $1000 a week... it took him about half a year to build a character sufficient enough though... the other one is just starting to make money but he says he can also make like 200-300 dollars a week.
