I'm sorry, but i don't see the point, maybe the British government should spend some time on IRC.

They can still do that...I've been seeing a lot of messages (on facebook) saying stuff like, "facebook is really creeping me out now". Asif it wasn't before...There is an option that says, "Uncheck the following box if you do not want your information to be shared according to the restricted Terms of Service of the Facebook Development Platform." the ToS basically says, "we're gonna use your information". This box has been there for a long time, and I doubt more than 10% of the facebook population knows about its existance. But once again, people are posting their information on some random website on the Internet...it's not secure, no matter how hard you try to believe it is.

A big difference, in my experience, and looking at profiles of people i know, between facebook and myspace is that most "friends" on facebook are your actual friends, whereas on myspace more people tend to try and meet new people. That is exactly where I think this whole uproar is ridiculous, because most of the time the people seeing this information are people you know in real life anyway. The internet has been around for way longer than the entire life of most facebook-users, and they should know by now that whatever you post on the internet becomes public domain, especially to sites like this. I guess they're not happy with simplification (see "Stalking is supposed to be hard" thread).

You don't even have to travel as far as China to see some of these 'differences' Western Europe supports a lot of things we here in the northern US long for or only dream of. The road side parking information was installed in 1999 in the Netherlands, the same year that cell-phones became the biggest fad. They even had a massive game being played on cell-phones, where a user would sign up, get a cryptic direction every week and whoever followed the directions closest (throughout the entire country) found the location of a prize. The rest of the items are sometimes small, courteous things, that we just don't think of, or our culture is not used to, like the hooks under the tables. Which, once again, in Europe they use in bars, for your coat, so you don't have to wrinkle your jacket by sitting ontop of it on the barstool.

I remember that in the Netherlands as well, the local TV station (TV West) mounted a camera on a car and just drove around for a while, i think it might have even been broadcasted in real-time. It was fun to see your own house, or yourself come by once in a while.

  7. My experience on Math And The Computer Science Major · · Score: 1

As a current CS Major (3rd year). We're required to take 2 semesters of Calculus, and a Discrete Mathematics course (Boolean Algebra, Algorithms, Big O notation, Logic etc.), in order to complete the CS major. Most students however are suggested to minor in math which ads two semesters of calculus, up to multi-variate, an upper level math course, and linear algebra. Most CS students, however; end up taking Linear Algebra in order to take graphics and robotics classes. I myself think that doing CS at my school without the math minor is not worth it. The math is important, and it gives you a step up on your peers when looking for jobs, and applying to graduate school. This is just my input on the matter.

I'm really not sure what I feel about this whole Space Tourism thing. I guess the space agencies are doing it as a source for some extra cash, but how much does profit do they actually make on these trips? I think for now space technology should be kept for scientific research only. There is still a lot that can go wrong, and even more that we don't know about.

And a full broadband network accross the country? a LARGE part of the country does not even have basic cable TV, let along possibility for DSL! I think he needs to start doing some research before he follows in Gore's footsteps and claims to invent something techy.

What i like about OS X and Aqua, as an unexperienced linux user, is that it helps really well bringing linux to people who don't know how to use it that well, there is no need to use shell at al, but if you want to you can use it, in 'normal' linux that's not the case, there the shell is always a large part of the operation. and people like my dad who love Aqua, but can't work with Linux cans till feel the power, without knowing any specific commands etc.
