We've got to get rid of that damn printing press, too. Before you know it, people will be reading books for themselves rather than having information spoon fed to them.
Linda Howe was a guest on his show, reporting on crop circles. She told Art of a new circle that included the number "420". They speculated about what the "aliens" were trying to communicate to us, what could 420 possibly mean? Then a listener called in to explain the meaning of 420. There was an embarrassed silence, then the subject was quickly changed.
Has anyone noticed how the price of movies on VHS has dropped like a stone in the last couple of years? Demand has gone down (due to DVD's, not piracy). IANAA ( I am not an accountant) but it seems tome, the proper response to lower sales is to reduce prices, not to accuse your customers of theft.
I vaguely remember reading that the original copyright laws required that the work be made available in order for the copyright to be in force. I really think this should be the way it is: Make it available, or it enters the Public Domain.
And how am I supposed to do that? I have no control over someone else's kid. If some 17 year old gangbanger tries to rob me with a firearm, should I just remind him it's illegal for him to have it and ask him to turn it in?
Yes, it does matter if the gun is used in a self-defense situation. I feel no obligatiobn to allow myself to be killed just because the perpetrator is under 18.
Okay, call me a dumbass, but can someone explain to me how the US can prosecute a Russian for doing something that is legal in Russia? And if so, why can't Mexico prosecute me for doing something that is illegal in Mexico but perfectly legal in California (where I currently reside)>
The Clinton Era was peacetime?
IIRC, we had 1) 17 soldiers killed in Somalia, 2) an invasion of Haiti, 3) Bombing of a barracks in Saudi Arabia, 4) US troops sent to Bosnia, 5) The bombing of Serbia and occupation of Kosovo, and 6) the bombing of the USS Cole. And those are only the ones I can remember off the top of my head.
Higher productivity at my former company meant getting product out the door faster and cheaper. That meant laying off qualified people, replacing them with unqualified people who worked for barely more than minimum wage, and cutting corners in testing. The technical support dept (me) pointed out the sudden increase in quality problems and the resulting drop in sales. Managements answer was lay off the technical support dept (me) and ignore customer problems.
In my case, I'm more grateful I'm out of that situation than I would be if I still had a job there.
I recently took a rare trip to a local dept store. I was surprised to see that most of the movies on DVD were actually cheaper than the albums on CD. It's not much of a mystery to me why CD's don't sell well anymore.
I bought my first CD player in 1988. By 1991 I had ceased buying new CD's. Why? The $15-20 price was more than I was willing to pay, and the availability of used CD's was increasing. I still buy used CD's when I can find what I am looking for, but for most of the music I download off P2P, I can't find them (try getting Hymnen by Karlhienz Stockhausen at your local Sam Goody's).
I just recently bought a DVD player because I have found DVD's on sale for as low as $7. I would be willing to pay that rather than download a compressed, 750MB file over P2P. However, if the DVD is over $20, then I consider downloading it first.
It's all about price.
DCC is a direct connection between two clients and does not use any of the IRC servers bandwidth.

My all time favorite Art Bell moment:

Man, I miss Art.

Dammit, I can't find any on KazaA
Illegal in the USA. Sklyrov is Russian.

You don't see a difference between self-defence and execution?
No, it means that they will be slightly harder, not impossible, to obtain.

In California, I can't even buy a TOY gun unless the muzzle is painted orange.
Bingo! Piracy is an excuse the "content cartel" is using to destroy the independent musuc/movie/software movement.

The DMCA is An American Law. Elcomsoft is a Russian Company. Since when do we require Russians, living inside Russia, to obey American law?

If the DHCP server gives me an IP, then, technically, I have permission.
If Carbon Dioxide is pollution, I demand that you immediately stop breathing.
Record? I sure hope the RIAA doesn't hear about this.
The last time I saw an electron? About 1970, on the Monsanto ride at Disneyland. Man, I miss that ride.
I believe Senator Disney is a Democrat.

Stealing a loaf of bread is theft, too. but I rarely hear about it triggering an FBI raid.
