You have a "laptop bag to take my laptop to and from work"
WTF do you think I'm carrying my lighter laptop bag? To get to and from work and side jobs as an IT consultant.
Instead of your one "good book" I've got 500, plus the textbooks and reference books required for work and school.
So instead of your 10 lb laptop, 2 pound book and 2 pound bag I've tried to explain how to cut the weight in half or a third. This will save your back and the nerves in your shoulder compressed by straps on a typical backpack.
BTW the flashlight, laptop and multitool were useful yesterday troubleshooting problems for a local business putting $300 in my pocket. The earplugs and headphones are great on the bus or concentrating for an exam. AND I don't look like a total jackass wearing a leather coat in the summer! (another 5 or 10 pounds I'll point out). (:-{p}
You can have your sanctimonious attititude and 25 pounds of extra crap Osty. I'll take my lightweight gear bag.
I am a 46 year old Alpha Geek/Yoga teacher. So, I've given some thought to the physiology of a gear bag.
My first recommendation is to only carry small and where possibile, hybrid gear.
Secondly purge your bag weekly.
Thirdly, a small bag with a well padded single shoulder strap seems to put less pressure on joints, nerves, etc. The older you get the more you will appreciate this. It is counter-intuitive but backpacks easily cause me more discomfort, even with a good belt.
On the laptop there is easily 500 ebooks including textbooks for school, reference books for work and fiction for downtime. The whole enchilada weighs only 5.5 lbs!
And as soon as I figure out how to get Outlook to wake my laptop out of standby I'll ebay the PDA.
I didn't have to buy a bundle when I picked up my PSP the first day. And, I will be buying both an Xbox and a PS3 and selling the one that collects dust. So, AlexMax, you are the one coming off as a desporate fan boy.
I posted a warning here to this effect in the last nano story but the post got no traction (some fanboy even labeled it overrated)
The kicker is that there are no cases available and none will ship for several more weeks. I returned my nano and was hit with a restocking fee even after I told the Sales Dood the thing was defective.
This iPod is as susceptible to scratches as any of the previous plastic faced iPods. No news here. However, unlike the previous iPods I've bought, the nano does not come with a protective case, nor is one available aftermarket. Four weeks for availability is everyone's best guess.
Not wanting to have a horribily disfigured iPod in four weeks I returned mine today.
I am returning my so very sexy black nano for the simple reason that is scratches so easily and does not come with a case.
Both apple.com and employees at the apple store tell me not to expect to find a case for four + weeks. By that time it will look like someone sandpapered the thing! No thanks.
Because the word "boxes" exists, is adequate to the task, and is an already-recognized and accepted English word. "Boxen" adds nothing beyond the existing word, is not a generally accepted spelling, and, really, sounds kind of weak, like you're trying too hard.
Pick yourself up this terrific clamshell PDA on ebay (it's been discontinued sadly). It has the best keyboard and form factor of any PDA that I've seen.
A quick thank you to the forgotten poster here who turned me on to Firefly.
On watching the first three eps on a Netflix rented disc last night I immediately booted my computer and ordered the entire series. It should arrive tomorrow.
I am bald, have a mustache and a beard, ergo my smiley: (:-{)}
Have a great day Moonbender (nice tag BTW),
Bill

I am currently carrying an Eagle Creek Travel Gear shoulder bag. In it I carry:
Sony Clie UX40 in an aluminum case
crap Cell phone (if work didn't pay for this it would be a Treo 650)
Bandana (almost as good as a towel)
2 pens
business cards
Mini flash light
usb ROM stick
mini tape measure
Leatherman Squirt mini-multi-tool
spare stylus
A small Moleskin notebook
earplugs
Sony noise reducing earbuds(passive)
Motorola HS820 BT headset (crap)
2.5 lb convertible Fujitsu Lappy w/extended battery(I fuckin dig this thing!)
Caselogic neoprene DVD Player Case for the laptop.

My sister carries a "healthy back bag" from LL Bean that is even more comfortable. I'll try that next.
Take care of your body before it turns on you!

So he won't actually be submitting stories himself then? (:-{p}

Good luck with that,

Thanks MS. Yet again.

Boomerny replied with a good suggestion to use Fellowes Write-Right universal PDA screen protectors.
Good day,

If you are known for good work you can negotiate your workload/assigned tasks. I've been doing this for 27 years.
Check it out!
Just say "No!" to your PHB!
Instead, I went to the Michigan Ave Apple Store three miles away and picked up a Mac Mini, a nice keyboard and a sweet-ass Mighty Mouse for $650 OTD.
Check it out.

Damn good stuff

Thanks for your concern,
PFC Burton
On the way we would get a buzz on and take the things off-roading in the desert hills on base. Wonderful US Army 5-ton ten-wheel-drive tracter trailer rigs.
First gear on a good incline and these beasts would just dig straight down.
The conceit was we had to warm them up to get the oil flowing
Peace,
PFC Burton (ret)
I saw this today and thought of you. This is a technology to watch. http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.03/brain_pr. html
Good luck Brother,

I can change your mind with one word. Deadwood
