I know this is somewhat offtopic, but using the American flag as a backdrop for politics.slashdot.org seems a bit nearsighted to me. This site has an international readership, and when they see this they will think "American Politics".
If this happened with the Diebold machines, we'd be in trouble, since there is no paper trail. But the problem was with the optically scanned PAPER ballots. Shouldn't we be able to do an audit of this pretty easily?
Why? I work for the HP Inkjet division and I'll tell you why HP cartridges are expensive - because they lose money on the printers, the rest of the company is in the red, the devices are becoming a commodity, the competition is driving margins down, and the upper management is greedy, so they compensate by charging outrageous prices for the cartridges and outsourcing work to Beijing, Singapore, and Bangalore.
God dammit, you are someone who actually understands truly why outsourcing is BAD. If companies were truly international, then SURE, go ahead, outsource. But they are US companies, allowed to exist under US charter, given government contracts, tax breaks, protection, subsidies, land, legislation, AND they are considered to be LEGAL CITIZENS of the US. Yet they say in contradiction that everyone in the world has a right to a job, and that this is a global marketplace. bull shit.
Your analogy makes NO sense. There is no softdrink company in India firing it's employees and hiring a non-Indian company to manufacture their soda. Which brings up a good point. Calling this surgery "outsourcing" also doesn't make any sense. This person is just shopping around.
Here's a picture of the lense. Apparently the cool thing about this lense is that it has a higher index of refraction, allowing it to be thinner and take less space, hence the slim profile of the casio.
Stupid question #1: Why isn't glass considered a ceramic? I've googled around for information on what a ceramic is, and I haven't found anything that precludes glass...
Ok, enough with the capitalist propaganda. No one should ever use the word "freedom" as an absolute in the context of the United states. Instead, try "more free", or "additional freedoms". Citizens of all nations, including the United Stattes, are NOT free.
Let's analyze this. "Exceeds All Expectations". What kind of "news" is this? This is an AD. Standard Apple brown nosing, been going on for years here. Yes, Slashdot sells stories. Maybe not directly, but they have some kind of a deal. Ok, now I spread my arms out and fall backwards as the moderators shotgun me into oblivion.
I think you are totally missing the point. The presidential debates have had 60 million viewers. I don't know anyone who's watched a debate at the local level. You are totally wrong to think that inclusion in the presidential debate would have no effect on the vote.
Enough nanobot and space elevator garbage. Please! Unless we are specifically talking about science fiction. It's making me sick! When it comes to nanobots and space elevators, the abyss between available technology and implementation is larger than anything else I've ever seen. I'd be surprised if we had these things in a 100 years, let alone 10. We might as well talk about teleportation whenever a new property of light is discovered, or jacking-in whenever a new feature of the nervous system is discovered.
Sparks is basically red bull + malt liquor in a large can. Watch out though - if you drink more that one of these in a night you won't be feeling too pretty the next day.
...is there ANYONE in ANY part of this country anymore that just takes a little bit of responsibility for their own goddamn actions
Yo man, calm down there, I think you might have a DSM categorical illness, but I'm not sure which one. The article simply states that the withdrawal effects are of a negative mental nature, and thus can be categorized in the DSM, which doesn't only hold major illnesses, but minor ones too. It says nothing about responsibility. I have no idea where you got that, and why everyone is moderating you up with their fists in the air in agreement.
Moderators: As evidenced by the massive response, I think the parent needs to be rated as either flamebait (regardless of what he says) or as overrated.
The usefulness of PDAs has already been established, and this is like getting on Slashdot and saying "I still don't know what the usefulness of a mouse is - I can do everything from the command line and faster" - it's flaimbait, and it's obviously wrong.
Well, my work bought me an iPaq 4150 (I'd never by a PDA myself). I have it sync with outlook calendar, tasks, notes, and contacts, and I actually use it quite a bit. I know you could do the same with a 5 year old palm device, but this is in color, works like the XP versions, and I didn't pay for it. I also have some really good games for the thing, and read e-books with it.
I.E. I don't do anything essential, but since i didn't pay for it, I'm pretty happy with the things it does.
I guess you didn't get my implied intent. I DON'T believe we should throw out everything. My message, which I should have made more explicit, is that google news is fine in it's current form. Separating news from opinion doesn't make sense for such an application.

You DO realize that many people here on Slashdot think that Samus is a male character, don't you?

Does anyone have a short list of large scale sites that utilize Zope? Thanks!

I've only got one thing to say about this basement-dwelling pumpkin carver: here

Nice, this is one of those rare comments I read every couple weeks that makes me laugh out loud...
So when do I get one of these??

Uhh umm, the shortcut is created by the Firefox installer, not Microsoft....

ENOUGH, FAN BOYS! Stop it now!
If you call setting up a shell company, making some drawings, and playing with lego mindstorms "on the job", then yes they are.
But it does the same thing:
Sparks is basically red bull + malt liquor in a large can. Watch out though - if you drink more that one of these in a night you won't be feeling too pretty the next day.
