Very interesting subject to me, because I've done this. I built the IT infrastructure for the company I now own and operate, but at the time, I was building it for some one else. It now just became mine through some sick twist of fate. Anyways, that said, ANY ONE WHO HELPS THIS DOUCHE BAG IS ALSO A DOUCHE BAG. OP; you should have never taken this job. You don't have the experience and know how to do this right. You should now go and an hero.
Drupal is an open source content managment system. Drupal is modular, and very flexible, and you can develop custom themes very simply written in pure php. The reason why I mention drupal, is that theres a few contributed modules that sound like that you are looking for.
Location API provides the framework for location based, and proximty based searching.
EventFinder module uses this API to provide sitewide location based searches and more.
There are also two contributed map modules google maps, and geourl.
It seems like the basic functionatily you are asking for is already developed for drupal, It shouldnt take alot of work to throw these together to do what you want to do.
Here's another theory. Those three so called "RFID" tags are not RFID tags at all. Those are ordinary inventory control tags that are supposed to make the alarm go off if you step though the door. These are very widely used in retail. You said there were three of them, that's because they work best when they go through the detector at the door at a certain angle, throw three in there, especially on different sides of the box and no matter how it's carried out, it'll set off the alarm. By the way, the costs per unit on these tags are pretty low, almost next to nothing compared to the cost of slippage.

Well, as you probably read, the space elevator, its a good idea, and the designs are there, but were arent any where close to being able to acheive this goal with current materials technology. I just don't think we'd bealbe to acheive a working space elevator in 10 years, maybe more like 50 years.
Spam Inspector is a plugin for Outlook 2k,2k2,2k3 (also works for Eudora, Incredemail, and Hotmail.) Not only does it do a pretty good job filtering spam, but it seems to also stop that 1 pixel image trick, cause it wont let outlook download anything unless you tell it to specificaly.
I'll agree with that. Thankgod I hadn't mentioned Natalie Portman, or something along the lines of "I for one, welcome our new military technology overlords"
Has any one suggested privoxy over squid? Privoxy has the added benifit of putting a little message at the bottom of the page that says "adds blocked by privoxy" and it's disableable from the user's end, and i can block more than just popups, advertisments too. If you wanted it to be opt in, run privoxy on a seperate port (instead of squid's transparent mode) and make people set thier browser's proxy setting to block proxies, and they have thier choice.
Be warned no matter what scheme you choose, the user must have the ability to turn of the blocking on the fly, because there will be good websites that any popup blocker will interfere with.
Dear Slashdot,
I am looking for a way to secretly whore my self out for karma. My post entails that I bitch and complain because i don't have anything valid to contibute to the discusion. The people that moderate should have moderated my comment as (-1) offtopic. I should be complaining that the editors post the dumbest stories but instead I'll make fun of the poster and ignore his question, thats what makes slashdot suck. Can you please help me?
Thanks!
The moderators at slashdot never cease to amaze me. Wait, I modetate too. I'm fired (i'm just kiding please dont take away my moderation rights)
yeah, first thing I thought was, what about spam, but it i mean, spam still a hug problem, so its not like those logs are helping with that. I say we all just give up on the internet and go back to carrier pigionn
At first, this was a hard decision to make, to mod parent down, or to give up my mods to reply (I'm sure you'll figure out what I decided). I've been researching software piracy on the internet for the last 10 years. My research has shown conclusively that complaining on Slashdot isn't going to stop this network from sharing copyrighted materials nor would any safeguards built into the program... they would be circumvented almost immediately just like people used to wrap files up in fake mp3 files to get them into napster. Now, if you had some ideas on how to tell the difference between a good file and a bad file, or who should have the power to censor, please speak up, because it's a lot more complicated than you think. How would you solve the problem of defining what safeguards would keep a anonymous network from being filled with irresponsible file trading and still not take away features for a successful market for free speech?
This project does not obviate the rights of other copyright holders any more so than http, or email, or even AOL. Any copyright safeguards added to this kind of project would go completely against the idea of free and unrestricted speech, and don't forget fair use! Is it morally wrong when I buy a game, the cd gets scratched, and I have no recourse but to go spend another 50 dollars on another game just for the license? We all know we don't pay for the software; we pay for the license to use that software. It's really a bad example because I haven't paid for a game in a long time, nor have I seen very many games that are even worth playing in a long time. Or how about this one, is it immoral for me to download a full game before I buy it to see if it's even playable on my computer? Every thing else I buy from the store comes with a money back guarantee normally, and if it doesn't work, they'll fix it. Is it moral for a company to sell me a game that really sucks and not allow me to return it?
More importantly, Free [Anonymous] speech, at least in my country is one of my inalienable rights. This project is not aimed at taking away rights from copyright holders; it's about something completely different, Free Speech. Arguably the most important right we have (at least in the US) is the right to free speech. Free Speech, like our other rights, isn't just handed to us on a silver platter. It's our responsibility to us, the people to go forth and implement our rights. This project isn't just a new network to download Paris Hilton sex tapes. This project and others like it, are the cornerstone to ensuring that we keep our god given rights in the information age. We have to ensure that we have some sort of mechanism to guarantee free speech and that's what the Free and Open Source Software is really about.
You're right about one thing; the FOSS movement really is the antithesis of Copyright. The very existence of the GPL threatens it. While I may not see its end of Copyright while I'm alive, it is an antiquated and dying beast. The system is so full of special interests and loops holes that it only serves to hold back man kind and stifle innovation and make the super rich even richer. Those with the most lawyers hoard other people's inventions, become filthy rich, and tell other people what they can and cannot do. I'm not sure that I will see the end of copyright during my day, but the FOSS movement will make copyright worthless someday. What value will software have when you can find something free that works better?
And BTW, nothing is going to stop SCO from bitching either. Their ship (the traditional software development model) is sinking and they're just trying to clutch onto FOSS to stay afloat.
I have one of these set top boxes. I think they'd make a great platform to open up to open scorce development, maybe some geeks around here could port linux to it, maybe steal or reverse engineer it to work.
*dont mod me down cause Im a dreamer*
Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina have run a study to see if praying for sick people makes any difference. Apparently there is no God...
Ok, maybe Im drunk, maybe im surfing the web naked from my bedroom, maybe i'm a nerd with a attorney, but, i like the fact that you need a contact address to regigister a domain name, hell, if every registrar did verify each adress, maybee we wouldnt have such a problem with spam. i mean, if your going to provide a public webisite (any website) you should be at least somewhat acountable. I know this will get me moded down, but I do believe some things should not be anonymouse. Yeah, the net uesed to have diffrent ideals, and used mean anonymouse access for all, but, i beleave for the security of the whole net those days should be over. Ok, i dont like this idea, but im tired of spam and hackers, and well, it could go either way, make the internet completly anonymouse (unless yhou opt in) or, make it completly nonoumouse... hum, yeah il get moded down for these views, its ok.
I hope this helps you. If you click on the module config button in webmin, the second option from the top is labled; Display subnets and hosts as _ Icons _ List If you set this option to list, webmin wil not display an icon for each host. Further more, if you have a large number of DHCP clients, you may also want to use groups to help organize some of those clients into smaller lists.
ok, i know I didnt read this yet, but are trafic lights really that cheap? and another thing, I relize this is a bit of a troll, but, ive heard this story [some new technolgy] revolutionizes solor power, we're all going to have elctric cars now. It never happens tho.
new sig coming soon
First of all, lets remember, this situation is completly hypothetical here. Secondly, there is nothing wrong legally if they only played thier custom cds before they open or after they close, when there arent any customers around. Lastly, you all should be ashamed for turning your back to these poor underapeciated, undertrained barrista. You know, those poor kids have to wake up pretty early so that you can have your damned Frapachino. They get paid shit, and your measly tips barely buy them lunch. Dont they deserve to hack thier own music. Lastly again, no they wont sue this kid, you cant get blood out of a turnip. You gotta rember, he works at starbucks, hes probaly only 17 years old, with a crackling voice and zits on his face. After all the times he's burnt his hand on the steam wand for you people, every one of you completly turns thier back on him. What a lame excuse too --"im scared of the laywers" is what you should say. Wake up people! He didnt ask you what the fine was, he asked how to hack the damned machine. The question wasnt weather he'd be allowed to do this. Infact, scince he asked about "hacking" the machine, he probably knew there was risk involved. So everybody, if you have any ideas how to circumvent the music protection, then post away, otherwise, SHUT UP. Almost forgot, im sure this will get modded down, my spelling sucks.
