    Remnants of MANY lost continents lay under the ocean floor.
    And at the top of mountains too.
    And those lost continents were made from remnants of previous lost continents.

    This is more like going to a public parking lot and testing to find out whether the security cameras are real and working, not working, or fakes, and then telling people they shouldn't park their cars there if they want to park where there are security cameras.

    ...'The American worker is the most productive in the world!"

    Of course, if they really meant that they'd leave the jobs here... and they don't.

    But what does that mean? "Most productive?" That's measured from the standpoint of the company. Not from the standpoint of the worker.

    For the worker, "most productive" means your work effort gains you more than for others. For the company "most productive" means that your work effort gains THEM more than others.

    "Most productive" measured from the company standpoint means you do more work for less pay.

    "Most productive" means "most overworked, most underpaid."
    (which I actually doubt, seeing as China still uses slave labor and political prisoner labor.)

    Like, can I get a patent for making a plastic spoon "with 3d printing?"

    If I want a REALLY strong patent, I can have people design their personalized spoon "on the internet" which is then automatically made "with 3d printing."

    My patent will be double-protected and bullet-proof!

    The law is that it cannot be obvious to anyone "skilled in the art," not the layperson.

    In other words, this cannot be obvious to programmers who work with files on distributed systems. It's doesn't mean that if it's not obvious to the average McDonald's worker, you're good.

    I just invented a real-world application of the same thing Google is patenting here.
    Real world sorting of items for disposal.

    The way it works is there is a marker on the piece of trash. A triangle with a number in it. I will use my brain program to check that marker and decide whether the article needs to be put in the recycle bin or in the regular trash.

    I'm gonna be rich!

    yeah but they are talking about capturing one and putting it in earth orbit.

    The energy needed to go from earth orbit to... thud... is a lot less than what it would have taken to get it into earth orbit. Plus if "dropping" was their intent from the start, the first nudges could just as easily place it on a path to collide as a path to be in position for rockets to fire to place it in orbit.

    Bottom line is that their plan (which is nonsense) wouldtake so much energy that if they can pull THAT part off, the "dropping" would be the easy part.

    The US Supreme Court ruled that copyright infringement IS NOT THEFT.
    It's more like breach of contract, in a sense.

    Or as the Supreme Court essentially put it - copyright violation is exactly like copyright violation.

    Minidisc used lossy compression, but did so before MP3.
    Still being a physical format on a spinning disc, with a lossey codec devised early on, before much experience was gained, which was not well-rated... that killed it for me.

    Sony at the time (as usual) was hoping to replace the open CD format with their closed format. It wasn't just about portability. They wanted to sell pre-recorded discs and kill the CD.

    I'm amazed it has taken them this long to stop making them... I hope they lost money on it.

    It made about as much sense as ministick memory.

    NOBODY can steal my music or photos unless they break into my house and take all my copies so I no longer have them.

    Do other people make copies of my music and photos and videos?
    I have NO FUCKING IDEA, because I don't waste my time worrying about stopping people from doing something I have no moral right to stop them from doing.

    I DO NOT OWN THE MUSIC I COMPOSE.
    It's fucking NOTES in a particular sequence. I cannot OWN that any more than I can "own" a particular configuration of lego blocks.

    The very idea is fucking idiotic.

    I didn't see anything about Antigua stopping the US from having copyright law.

    I DO see you demanding that Antigua copy and mirror *US* copyright law.

    And "taking other people's stuff?" No. Even the Supreme Court says you aren't right about that, they ruled that copyright violation is not theft. It's copyright violation.

    And until the US started "dictating their laws" other countries had very different ideas on copyright.

    Me, I leave my cell phone at home.
    First, I never have a problem with the battery running out during a call...
    Plus I never have calls come in at inconvenient times.
    Also, I don't have to remember to shut it off in movie theaters and doctor's offices.

    These advantages are so great, I'm thinking of inventing a cell phone that can't be taken from your home. Maybe use some kind of tether.
