    90% of PEOPLE have never heward of linux. Of the minority that have, 90% have never heard of RedHat, SUSE, Debian or any other distro, and just know it as "Linux, that strange geeky thing that geeks use". The rest of us fall intot he 1% of "know what we are talking about". Not a large %.

    Your Dodge caravan would bounce off a Smart. They are Mercedes-built, with one of the toughest roll-cages available. While the Smart may need the scratches polishing out of it, and a new body panel or two, your Dodge would be waiting to be towed to the scrappers.
    Try me sometime. I'll be the one stopping correctly at the lights, and sueing you for ramming me in the back.

    I think it refers to superior to ATI's Linux support .
    I have had major troubles getting my ATI card to run correctly under Linux, and from trying to find support on it, have found I am not the only one .. the main advice i get is "Use a Nvidia card".

    IME this is because Linux users KNOW how their file structure is arranged.
    Windows' My Documents, My Pictures, folders are pretty easy to use if people bother to learn about them rather than just hitting "save" and not checking where they have saved to.
    I don;t see how Linux's file structure is any advantage in this regard.

    I can only presume that by "file-swappers" they mean the tiny sub-set of file-swappers: "Files-of RIAA-owned-Music Swappers" ?
    The amount of files exchanged across the internet is HUGE, even compared to the P2P illegally-distributed-music downloads.
    e-mail anyone? sounds like file-swapping to me.
    Isn;t web-page-surfing file-swapping?
    Can we get some consistent terminology?

    The RIAA don;t care, ut he Universities and colleges should.
    They are not there to force music-download services on our children, they are there to educate them.
    Why should tution fees be spent on irrelevant services I will never use?

    Current UK Road Tax is based upon engine size. My under-600cc Smart is charged ~£70, a 1.3l car is charged ~£120. and over 2l is charged more again.
    (Figures from memory).
    If you have a dual-engine, i would imagine they would combine them to come up with a total charge.
    e.g. putting two of my under-600cc engines in one car would make it liable for the over-1.1L tax.

    One thing to watch for is if you are putting the Original (Windows) installation back onto the Laptop. Most OEM Restore Disks check your hardware, not just type/brand/model, but EXACT component. They "Tatoo" the HDD so the Restore knows what to do.

    You may find that you are unable to Restore your OS back onto the new drive.

    Only solutions to this are to put a new OS on it (Retail Windows, *nix, other ...) or to phone tech-support ...

    The two definitions look OK, but do not refere to the original posters use of the word.

    Commiting a crime MAKES one a criminal. Nothing magical about it. Hardly "automatic", more definitive.

    OK, incoming arguments about whether sharing mp3s is a crime. Depends a lot on your local legal system. (Civil vs criminal offenses).

    While installing, sit behind a router.

    Once system is up and running, grab AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot, ZoneAlarm, set them up, update them all, scan your system.

    If one must assert something, try to produce some evidence, not some anecdotes of your experience.
