    Their carbon footprint calculation includes corporate travel, employee commuting, and building construction.

    All of those things use energy. If they're 100% renewable, they won't be using the stuff that produces CO2.

    And yes, that includes concrete. And steel.

    California is in a perpetual competition with itself to come up with the most freedom infringing, pointless legislation possible... if it wastes money, achieves nothing, and oppresses people, Moonbeam Brown will get behind it.

    Yet they are the 5th largest economy.

    Which they did not achieve under the current governor/legislature.

    Fortunately for the current governor/legislature, this new law requires that they do absolutely nothing. It imposes limits on future governments of CA, which they may abide by, or not.

    After all, new laws supersede old laws, so if they can't achieve their goal, they (the future government) just have to pass a law saying "ummmm...never mind" about the whole green energy thing...

    And they only have to do that if someone remembers this law in 20 years, and brings suit against them for not following it....

    So, 100% renewable energy.

    But only 75% reduction in CO2 emissions? I'm curious as to which form of renewable energy emits ~25% of the CO2 of whatever the standard form of energy emits....

    Nope. Most people have never trusted the "experts".

    Either because their finding conflict with their belief structure (such as Evolution vs Creationism), or will find that it demands changes to their lives (Global Warming), or from people realizing what they learned in 8th grade science isn't actually fully true.

    And this is NEW? This has been going on forever. Well, for centuries, at least.

    Conspiracy theories are now trying to discredit almost all science. Flat Earthers, Moon Landing Hoax. Expert in fields are being ignored for bar room half drunk talking points...

    I'm sorry you assume that once upon a time, everyone automatically trusted the "experts". They didn't. Unless the "experts" agreed with them, of course.

    No, your claims of expertise in a field don't automatically make the common man trust you. Doesn't happen, and won't happen. Unless, of course, you live in a totalitarian world where "top men" take care of everything & everyone.

    Yes, EVERY generation, everywhere has said this. And it always reduces down to "you kids get off my lawn!"

    No, disagreeing with your parents (or their generation's ideals) is not the same as "dumbed down" or "coarsened". No more than it was when your parents generation disagreed with THEIR parents.

    Nor is not caring about something your parents thought was important. A lot of things that looked important back in the day (and "back in the day" goes back at least to Roman times - I remember reading a translation of a Roman letter that reduced to "the kids these days don't respect their elders, they're dirty, their sexual habits are obscene, etc"), and turned out to be, in the long run, not terribly significant....

    Note also that the majority of people disagreeing with what YOU think is important an example of "dumbed down" or "coarsened". That's also been going on forever, for any value of "you" and "important" that you care to mention....

    If you're trying to use "regulation" as in the Second Amendment, then you're mistaken about the usage. "Regulated" in the Second pretty much meant "trained". As in "a well trained militia being necessary...".

    That said, I used to enjoy more than a few shows that were cancelled quickly. Which means that other people's opinions of the shows generally didn't match mine. So, again, why should I give a rat's ass about Rotten Tomatoes' reviews of TV shows?

    Unless you're a native American, you have ZERO RIGHT to say SHIT about immigrants, because one way or another YOUR ancestors were immigrants.

    Since the "native Americans" came here from Siberia 20K or so years back (except the Eskimos, who came here much more recently), that would imply that there are NO "native Americans', since their ancestors were also immigrants.

    It was a mass shooting, so why was it put in quotes?

    Just a guess, but I suspect that the original article was put out before the police got through going over the scene.

    This matters because "mass shooting" has a legal definition. It requires that at least four people be shot (not necessarily killed, but shot), among other things. Until they were sure that four people were shot (not necessarily by the perp), calling it a mass shooting was incorrect.

    Note, by the by, that in this case, the perp committing suicide was pretty much required to make it a mass shooting - he was the fourth.

    Qualifier: haven't read the latest news on the event. As of the last news I've seen, total casualties were four (including the shooter), but that may have changed....

    Obvious solution: EVERYONE who plays Madden NFL at tournament levels should be locked up, to proactively prevent this sort of thing.

    Or, alternately, we just make losing Madden NFL illegal. No losers, noone going postal for losing, Everyone wins, everyone is happy, right?

    On a rather more serious note, the bozo doing the shooting killed himself. A bit of an overreaction to losing a game, even without the shooting other people part....

    The pretend alarm over its energy usage is the most amusing.

    Can you say "AGW"? Sure you can.

    While I don't actually think AGW is more than a manufactured emergency (it could have been solved with nuclear power 40 years ago, and could still be solved within a couple decades by a combination of nuclear baseload and solar peakload), 1% of our energy usage is a helluvalot of CO2 created for no useful purpose....

    I was under the impression that most U.S. citizens who do not travel internationally do not carry a U.S. passport.

    Face it, a very large chunk of the price of a conventional nuclear reactor is built into the legal challenges that pop up whenever building a reactor is proposed.

    If the anti-nuke hysterics follow pattern, it won't matter if they can build these reactors for $5.99+shipping, they'll have 30 years of court challenges to deal with before they can actually build the first one, and then repeat for every copy proposed....

  24. This event also makes driving laws in some other countries (Australia is the first that comes to mind) look better than our own. They restrict the use of high-powered vehicles until the driver has a certain amount of driving experience -- five years, if I remember right.

    I take it that Australia also makes it illegal to travel the wrong way down a highway if you're an inexperienced driver?

    Face it, going 100 the wrong way down a highway sounds more like a suicide attempt than a failure in driving laws....

    When people speaks of marijuana death they usually do not speak about secondary death (accident, inattention) because that criteria tells nothing about the LD50 of drugs.

    And yet, this article about alcohol does, in fact, include "secondary death (accident, inattention)" as part and parcel of the alcohol deaths....
