    The really big disparities in contributions, interestingly enough, came from the various Unions, especially public worker unions - they tended to come down on the "we want this new tax" by very large percentages (90% for, 10% against, as an example - most weren't quite that extreme, some were rather more extreme).

    Hmm, $7 million or so just from governments, government employees, and assorted government employee unions.

    That alone is 5x as much as the other side spent.

    $28 million from real estate interests. 20x as much as the other side spent.

    $5 million from publishers of books/periodicals/magazines - not sure why this matters to them, since they get the same return selling a book online as in a B&M store.

    Local businesses and trade associations seem to pretty much cover the rest.

    Though why veterinarians have any interest in the subject one way or another, I haven't a clue - not like you're going to mail your pet to New Hampshire to get his shots....

    Sure you can...

    As long as the Voting Rights Act is law, there are a great many districts (the Old South, a couple in New York, others scattered about the country) that CANNOT be changed to be "Party agnostic" without approval of the Federal Courts (effectively, the Supreme Court, since any such change WILL be appealed all the way to the Supremes).

    You ask, did [the big rich corporations] bribe Senators to [make them get richer] ???

    Note that many of the organizations bribing Senators were...Unions (especially government workers' union).

    Plus there were the barbers and beauticians (or the owners of the shops, anyway), though what interest they had in this I can't figure out.

    And the various governments at lower levels - I can at least understand the governments that were going to benefit bribing like mad.

    What I want to know is why Real Estate & Developers/Subdividers/Agents spend better than $25 Million influencing this legislation.

    It's not like anyone can save on sales tax by buying real estate over the internet....

    Not necessarily. As long as the random changes are not contra-survival, there would be no particular impetus one way or the other.

    to much time in class that is what is bad about collage now days to much class room and a big gap in the hands on parts of learning. Trades got this right with apprenticeships.

    I really hope you're not a college student.

    Because if you are, you're confirming my worst fears about the next generation.

    On the other hand, if you're a college graduate, it's even worse.

    so unsurprisingly c) The US Justice Department estimates 70% of guns recovered from Mexican cartels were legally purchased in the US.

    That would be pretty difficult, when a Mexican cannot legally buy a gun in the USA.

    Note that this is the same Justice Department that was telling gun dealers to ignore obvious straw purchases so they could "trace" the guns to their final destination - and then didn't bother to do the traces.

    Hence the death of the odd Border Patrol Agent...

    To the best of my knowledge, both the decrease in homicide and the increase in assaults were in that category.

    So, if homicides were decreasing before the ban, what was actually accomplished by the ban? A continuation of the status quo isn't really a convincing argument in favour of gun control (or any other new law, really).

    Plastic shell casings have been made for at least 50 years, even if you discount shotgun shells, which are mostly plastic (except when they're mostly paper).

    Since before Columbus sailed, you mean?

    For what it's worth, slingers were casting their own slingbullets since, well, they discovered lead would melt...

    I doubt that anyone would be able to 3D-print a bullet and its charge for many years to come.

    It should be noted that bullet molds can be acquired quite easily - many reloaders make their own bullets.

    The powder charge isn't quite as easy to make, but it's not like you can't find recipes, since "modern" smokeless powder has been in use since the 1880's.

    they're not stealing the phones which are 100 bucks new. they're stealing the phones which are 600-700 bucks new(or phones which they think might be that).

    Read an article recently about this. Seems that in one case, a couple thugs held up some woman for her iPhone, then when they had it in hand, looked closely, realized it wasn't the latest iPhone, and gave it back to her....

    it's a good idea to have a simple phone with you in case you've got an emergency.

    I thought that's what payphones were for.

    Two things:

    1) You still have payphones where you live?? I haven't seen a payphone in years.

    2) My father bought some land for hunting a few years back. Not only no payphones there, but no neighbors within a couple miles of the place (at least). Oddly enough, cell reception there is fine.

    Faith based education makes school longer or removes time from exploration. I spent way too much time learning to look up passages in the bible but could not use a dictionary or write a paragraph when I went back to public school after a two year hiatus.

    Sounds like you had a particularly bad "faith based education" then.

    Daughter went to a private religious school for middle/high school. Curriculum in both places was essentially the same as at the public schools (except for one period of Chapel per week), just smaller classes and better teachers.

    You're trying to spell something you've heard but never seen written before, looks like.

    "Would've" is the proper spelling for the contraction you spelled "would of". It is a contraction of "would have".

    Note that people talking about the proper way to educate children should at least be able to spell common contractions properly. It cuts into your credibility no end....

    Article you link doesn't say that. It says a sixth of all residents are struggling with "hunger". If you've ever bothered to check, you'll know that "hunger" (aka "food insecurity") is defined as âoedo not always know where they will find their next meal.â

    Note that that definition means that missing a meal a year would put you on the "hunger" list.

    For that matter, you don't actually have to miss a meal, since "do not always know" doesn't actually imply missing a meal, just fear of same.

    Once upon a time (and by that, I mean 15 years ago), after the elections ended, the winners did a little thing called "governing." To the layman, this looked like compromise. Bills passed, budgets were created (and even balanced sometimes),

    Note that the budget is not balanced if the National Debt increases.

    Note further that the National Debt has increased EVERY YEAR since 1957. Yes, when Clinton and the Republican Congress "balanced the budget", they still had to borrow more money to match their expenditures, so the debt still went up.

    Note that "plotting" isn't listed there.

    Umm, no.

    The Boston Bombing was done with Black Powder, NOT Smokeless Powder.

    Black Powder is what they use in things like fireworks (yes, there are alternatives in use even for that, but it's the way to bet), Civil War reenactors' muskets and revolvers (and cannon), that sort of thing.

    Smokeless powder is, well, smokeless, or nearly so. Look at the videos of the Boston Bombing, watch the big cloud of white smoke coming from the bomb, and tell me again how it was made with smokeless powder....
