My emachine intel extreme graphics chipset is NOT supported by UBUNTU . I go to the intel site and they only have drivers for a certain kernel for Redhat or Suse and no other distro. Get this. I read a suse messageboard and they can't even get it to work. Bahhhh.
We need to make it easier for hardware support which is another reason for people pulling their hair out with linux.
I wonder if they have incentive to lower broadband prices if they see people switching to anything on the net that competes with core cable tv lineup ?
Makes you wonder why all these linux distros don't work together on a good hardware recognizer just like they are doing on installing software.
I used Ubuntu and had same problems. Doesn't recognize network card . Can't get higher resolution on graphics card.
Try Xandros or lindows. You might like it. I had no problems with the Xandros. Sometimes it didn't boot but it did recognize my hardware ! Pretty cool.
Linux isn't an operating system. People still don't get that. It's just a core part of the OS. There are now millions of distributions OS's that use linux and all are slightly different. Makes installing software tough. But they are fixing that with a....tada....standard.
What else needs to be done ?
How about Hardware recognition. Winmodems are not recognized out of the box on all these distros. It's a total pain to configure. Graphics and network cards weren't recognized by my latest UBUNTU distro. That bugs me ! I think I am pretty computer savy. I could imagine someone like my mom using this os.
So Distros need to work together and STANDARDIZE a better hardware recognizer along with an installer. Then we will cure some major frustrations.
The present day concept of auctioning the spectrum is a giant waste. Anyways the government shouldn't be in charge of this since they are not independent. We need a group with integrity to handle our medium for 'free speech'. Congress does NOT have your interests in mind.
Solution: The answer is something like the internet highway but with with wireless. Have individual frequencies beamed like slices of a pie. They would be narrow. Who said the RF spectrum doesn't have the bandwidth ?
By the way , I saw an article on this in Pop.Sci. about a year ago.
The misnomer 'internet telephony' needs to be called 'pc to pc voip' or something similar. Voip is acceptable. The problem is landlines. You can't connect to them using this software unless you pay extra ? I understand alot of people will save on long distance using pc to pc Voip but connecting to landlines offers no big cost savings.
It was standard procedure from them. The government didn't do anything under the do-nothing Republicans.
Which brings up the Justice departments ridiculous penalty or slap on the hand . Why didn't anyone mention to the DOJ that Mickeysoft should release 'driver source code'.Hardware makers should have been forced to release technical details or not use Mickeysoft's OS. Anything that dealt with 'lockin' should be opened.
Also breaking the OEM and MSFT monopoly would have been a nice idea. So you would have to buy the 'expensive' software off the shelf. That might have made people think twice about buying it.

A simple Antenna every so many miles . Or use public muni network. It could be done. Just another project that needs to be kickstarted. Could you imagine the howling of the phone companies if it happens ?
I can't stand cellphones . I believe they're pretty much a ripoff.
The more Microsoft products run on it,the more it's a real threat to them.
If they get games and business software working on it then watch out. They need to get NTfs filesystem working so it can be used for an emergency boot disk. It's only Fat32 now.
1.Ban all operating systems that aren't up to snuff on security . Buffer overflows and not secure.
2. Ban scanning. If caught , a fine and no access for a year. Then probation.
3. Mandatory firewalls or no access.
4. Have a control center you can send your firewall logs to so they can coordinate against the idiots.
5. Try and slow down port scanning from outside the U.S by creating another firewall for anything outside the U.S. It's only a matter of time before another China internet attack. Remember the DOS attacks by them.

Picture is worth a 1000 words.
the Ubuntu forums on hardware problems.

I understand government cutbacks but shouldn't the cargo be sent with a boeing heavy lift rocket or even outsource to Arianne ?
This way we could use money to go with a new design with money saved from the expensive shuttle.
It would be nice if people rally to take back OUR spectrum from corporate congress.
We deserve more freedom.
It's about money from big corporations !

Could also be used for satellite systems !
When will cards be able to show as many polygons as in a current CG movie scene ?
What about in Europe or Usa ?

Tons of Microsoft shareholders probably slant their opinions on here.
If Mickeysoft did do it then they should pay.

I would buy one !
If the antenna isn't too huge , maybe put one up in the back yard or on the damn roof.
How you like them apples!

Landlines still cost .
Will there be a time when it wont ?
Mmmmmm mmmmm smell so good.
Why does ICANN want the DNS servers ?
And he has to offer his OS free because of linux and he doesn't want to.
Anyone with Sun stock hates linux.

He might forget stuff just like anyone else.
His java books are probably being used as doorstops.
Sun is in trouble.
You can't build a faster processor than a graphics gpu for graphics.
What the console makers should be doing is bundling TWO graphics cards in their systems so you can double the polygons of a regular high end computer.
But that would cost $$$.
