Have you done much teleconferencing? The extended, awkward silences as nobody knows who is supposed to be talking are a real problem. Not a serious problem mind you, but there is definitely room for improvement.
iPhone fans have been arguing for awhile now that low-end Android phones shouldn't be counted in marketshare comparisons with iPhones
And they would be wrong. When you are talking about the market penetration it makes no difference how cheap or shoddy the device is. It is the platform that matters - does it run Android or iOS apps?
If you want to talk about a particular model iPhone vs a particular model Galaxy (for example) that's fine, and I'm sure Apple and Samsung care about it a great deal, but it is not any kind meaningful comparison to the average consumer.
Google doesn't "allow" manufacturers to use Android - they don't have any say in the matter at all. Admittedly, most carrier-supplied devices are licensed to carry the "with Google" logo and access the Market, so they can exercise some quality control there.
That's interesting, but I'm more interested in energy storage. The articles talk about developing the energy delivery (lasers), but that seems like a walk in the park compared to the seemingly insurmountable problem of how to store 100,000x the output of the world's electrical grid.
Christ... I'd love to see some discussion on how they are going to store that much energy. To my mind it seems more like science fiction then the actual hole-in-spacetime part of the experiment.
Heck, even just basing it on the file extension would work.
No. God no! Firstly, Linux doesn't even have meaningful file extensions, and secondly (going by Microsoft's experience) it creates a security nightmare and is prone to unpredictable behavior. Kill that crap with fire.
Biggest advantage huh? They must realize that Google has a pretty big head start in the old collecting-massive-voice-data-for-the-purpose-of-improving-voice-recognition-and-search-algorithms.
The guy went to his local O2 store to upgrade his old phone and the workers there agreed to help him... to get in contact with the right people at Nokia.
I think you are reaching a bit to say Nokia didn't know about it based on the contents of the article. I mean, the author mentions "chiefs at Nokia" several times, I'm pretty sure they were not talking about O2 employees.
Not matter how badly you want configurable tabs, the lack of them is not a bug. This bug was closed over 12 months ago. Complaining about a lack of a feature in entirely the wrong channel until the developer locks it, and then moaning about it on slashdot? Now THAT I would characterize as 'contemptible'.
First article not found. Second article says neuroscientists and computer scientists are approaching brain emulation from different angles for different reasons, and (despite sour grapes from the former group), IBM's achievements in this area are "a milestone in computing" and "deserves its accolades in full'. That sounds more like glowing praise then serious questioning.
Depends. "Accidentally shot in the face by VP" is a different thing entirely to "Deliberately shot in the face by VP"... and that's before we even consider the type firearm.
So how does one obtain Android Market for devices running CM without infringing copyright?
You can't. That is why gapps are not included in the CM distro. You have to flash a package that could best be described as "warez" separately.
In theory, Google is okay with it if you rip the apps from your stock ROM; flash CM; then re-install your old apps. But the stock apps that came with your phone are unlikely to run on the latest ASOP builds without issues. Nobody does this.
You sound like an avid consumer sound-bites, but they have little (if anything) to do with reality. Consider total investment in clean energy last year. China = $34.6 billion, US = $18.6 Billion. Hmmm. China ain't perfect, but at least they are putting money where it counts.

You could always try reading the fine article.
That's great and all, but the StreetScooter is a car ;)

Any system that has been made since circa 2001 has been able to boot from USB.
Um, nope. I'm typing from a high-end system circa 2008 (quad core @ 3Ghz with 16GB RAM) that can not.
Quotes for a string? Works fine. Easy verification - do two searches for match this string once with and once without the quotes.

does no one use their phones to make phone calls any-more?
Sure they do, but talking on the phone is entirely different to talking to a phone. Trust me.
The guy went to his local O2 store to upgrade his old phone and the workers there agreed to help him... to get in contact with the right people at Nokia.

Fun Fact: People in metric countries actually talk in K/H, not m/s.

Bad analogy. If I choose to leave my key under my door mat, that is none of your god damn business.
Now, if I am a locksmith and I leave copies of all my client's keys just lying around unsecured, that's a different story.
Maybe because it mentions Apple and and iOS in TFS.
Not saying it's right, but what can you expect?

The God Damn Batman? That's all the superpower you need.

Not to be confused with Code 1000 = Hit by potatoe gun, and Code 1257 = Injured by shooting a potato gun. DETAILS PEOPLE!
But it has got to be one of the worst articles ever posted to /.

No. Google's apps do not contain DRM locking them down to particular devices. CM was simply violating Google's copyright.
