If you set the source code file to "Read Only," no one can change it.
Why didn't I think of that?
Seriously, this idea sounds so silly, it will only invite more developers to hack OSx86 in their spare time. With OpenDarwin already ported to x86, unless they make serious changes to the OS X kernel, I doubt any measure of TPM will be able to keep people from homebrewing their Macs now.
This is a further illustration of oversimplification, I am amused, though I find no irony in it. You post illustrates a false dichotomy. Just as an author can dictate to several secretaries, so God can inspire many different men. Those two ideas (God as source and multiple men writing it) are not contradictory, but both by themselves are oversimplification.
All Bible scholars agree that the Bible was written down by more than one man. Conservatives (broad generalization time) believe that God inspired the authors to write what they wrote.
But did Moses actually write it down? More than likely, as is common with many writers of antiquity, Moses employed an amanuensis (basically a secretary) to take down his oral dictation. Consuquently the result reflected not only the style and content of Moses' speech but also the style of the amenuensis. If there were multiple amenuenses (say, I dunno, 4), then there could be four distinct sylistic/grammatical/lexical types of writing in the Penteteuch.
numerous repeated stories in the text which can be grouped off with other repeated stories to make internally consistent groups
In some cases, the supposedly repeated stories may actually be distinct as the current form of the Penteteuch presents them. Almost always they reflect a sense of historical irony, repetitive cycle of sin which besets the main characters. The fact that the stories are similar does not necessarily mean that they are retellings of the same event.
And here is the truth of the matter: Many people accuse conservative Biblical scholars of oversimplifying when it is their critics who are indeed oversimplifying the issues.
Is anyone at all excited about this possibility? I am.
Microsoft's OSs have bloated and become bogged down, just piling each new generation on top of the heap. This provides a chance for Microsoft to flex its development muscle (i.e. money) to get something done, free from the constraints of history. Imagine a world without the registry and.DLLs! Imagine a world where Windows is based on a functional command prompt!
Of course, this would really suck for all those developers who have fine-tuned their software to Windows madness only to have it all exploded a few years down the line.
Still, I am going to give MS the benefit of the doubt on this one. Of course, since it is still vaporware, there is much doubt, and therefore much benefit. We'll see what happens when the fog clears . . .
Some of these wrongful disclosures include areas such as an entire file management system . ..
Does file management system mean file-system, or the actual names and structures (i.e. folder tree) of the files?
. . . others are communications by IBM personnel working on Linux that resulted in enhancing Linux functionality by disclosing a method or concept from Unix technology.
Metod or concept? I would sure like to see the technical list, cause these generalities are putting ants in my pants.
Whatever Apple's share of the video proceeds is (let's say 50% for the sake of argument), that is nearly pure profit. Apple only pays for hosting/bandwidth, which is negligable considering their existing infrastructure. Apple just made a cool $1M in 20 days.
This is just the bleeding edge. Not too many people even have the video iPod yet, so interest will increase with the sales. All future iPods will be video enabled, so you can see that the number of Apple video enabled iPods out there will increase as well. Christmas will cause an explosion of iTunes video downloads. I would not be suprised if there were 1.5-2M downloads between Christmas and New Year's.
If we eliminate all disease and extend the viability of the human body indefinately, I believe we are left with only a few options for death:
1. Murder
2. Suicide
3. Accident
. . . broadcast TV is dead. Or is this another Wolf-cry like VHS destroying the theater business or catalogs (or the internet) closing every mall in America?

It is amazing to me that the The Weather Underground could orchestrate all those bombings using only Telnet. Who needs SSH?
Since Mac OS X will use a Darwin (Unixish) on x86, it will not be very hard to port your standard CAD programs to run natively in OSX. Mostly it depends on the demand in the market. If a lot of users start asking the CAD software developers for a port to OSX, it will probably happen. Short of that, your best bet may be Darwine or X11 for OSX. Using one of these may allow you to run standard CAD software without it actually being ported (don't hold your breath for Darwine, though).
Yes, but "Massachusetts Should Close Down Open Document" is a lot more clever than "Everyone should drop Microsoft." Maybe it should be "Everyone should whack Microsoft with a big hard stick" or something like that.
This makes me wonder (quite on the other side of the coin) if Google will ever sell a stipped down version of Gmail for deployment on private systems. I know I would love to secure a gmail-type AJAX mail client. Luckily now it looks like that will happen for free before too long. Still, I think there is a lot of money to be made for Gogle if they sell the software.
I ended up choosing Kill Bill so that I could get some essential Windows apps running for people, but I didn't even think of the FEMA IE issue. I swore I would never type this but, what the heck:
MOD PARENT UP!!!
I may be heading down to Biloxi Mississippi in the next few weeks to help coordinate the computers in a relief office and offer my repair/recovery skills. One of my most important tools down there will be LiveCD/USBs of Slax, Ubuntu, etc. It will allow for some recovery but mostly establishing a quick network with free software in the wake of many computers being damaged/destroyed by flood.
No no no, the next OS isn't going to be anything like that...
...it's going to be a direct boot to firefox. One tab is your internet browsing, another is your email, another for word processing and other office apps, and another for games. Welcome to the new online operating environment.
What about Opera? Is a two-browser system better than a IE monopoly, or should there be more choices? It seems sort of arbitrary in 2005 to force a choice between Netscape and Internet Explorer. 1995 called . . .
No wait, this is comedy: It should be "your," not "you're." Who is stoopid now?
Why didn't I think of that?

OK, I admit it, I am bitter that CmdrTaco pre-empted my submission to take it for himself, so I am pointing out his summary shortcomings!

Also, you cannot use RAM in a way which pertains to plugging an analog (read: human) hole! Er...

Still with the old hackneyed "Al Gore invented the internet" joke? Still? Even though it is demonstrably false? Come on.
