The violent video game shops... The type of place all people notice, but none dare get caught looking in the same direction as. You see someone walking out of the store and just think... he just bought a violent video game. They shops would never advertise in busy areas, and parking would almost always be located behind a privacy fence, or behind the grungy building itself to protect the patron's identities. Of course, in addition to the video games you could buy associated toys and accesories.. People could buy steering wheel and gun attachments, even camo paint, etc. for role playing. It sickens me to think about. But it could be another boom for the internet economy.
1,000, 2,000, then 5,000 songs, all in your pocket. Not much video is going to been seen from there, I seriously doubt such a change in what the iPod is all about, forgetting about complexity, and just listening to music, but who would have thought that they would have added a calendar, and contacts features. I don't think it would be smart, I think they should fix existing iPod bugs before attempting another revolution.

I remember Apple wanting to please MS to keep Office available for Mac users, but this would sort of ease that tension, possibly allowing things to go on that never could before. The funny thing is that Apple seems to really have a lack if trust/interest in open software, Star Office has been out for a while and now that you can only get it by paying, people unfortunatly seem to take it more seriously. Apple doesn't seem to really appreciate Ogg either, but loves AAC.
now that i think about it, neither is decss. it decodes, but does not prevent copying of the disc. decompressing, yes, but not the pure copying of the disc
As far as I know you have to break copy protection devices (css) to do this. I do believe that region coding has been consiered a copy prevention mech.
""All this does is create an image that "open source advocate == pirate.""
I was thinking that it would have the opposite effect. When your average Joe hears that someone is violating copyright law they think of "evil software pirates from Vietnam", not of someone wanting to exersise fair use.
"we need to stop acting like children"
and let this stuff go on, you are correct, activism is only for the childish and for those whose don't wish to be taken seriously. Hell, why do we even have those children on our money anyway?

for region killer, a way to defeat region codes on Windows. Or you could use the tried and true dcss programs out there. As for non-computers, I am clueless.
I can only expect this type of behavior of MS before Palladium.Create an insecure internet hysteria, offer a solution (Palladium), and avoid mainstream controversy over what MS will really be doing.
Obviously they don't plan on getting money from small end users or developers of small scale software. They can only hope for a big sum from people like Sony. But one must wonder if it is the financial scale of the group that they attack, or the wide spead use? Lets say Mozilla gets as widely used as IE. Would they expect the same out of MS as the Mozilla dev team?

No, he made it quite clear he was talking about software, this is where he asks for open source coders to help him.

I saw Robert Steele's presentation as well, and I did not find him to be a "great speaker". It seems his primary reason to speak was to promote his books, even taking care to make sure his covers showed up on the screen periodically. When someone asked him a question he did not like he did one of two things; either go way off topic ignoring the question in the first place, or even go so far as to insult that person. As far as his "plan" goes, I'm surprised anyone into the philosphy of free/open software would even consider some of his plan to be rational. Claiming to be a supporter of open source, it seems he failed to realize what it's all about. His plan involves a layered approach, exactly what free software is against. In a later session he even admitted that creating a system of superiority was good "to pay his mortgage". Although he threw out several details that exited the audience, I hope people realized that the big picture is most important here. I AM FLAIMBAIT, but please remember that just because someone has a few good ideas, intentions are most important.
i did like, but am becoming less and less impressed with os x. Maily because the finder is completely lacking
Did anyone notice when they mention humans being imperfact, on the wall of tv's they show hitler, then bush and rumsfeld?

Do an 'emerge rsync'. This will update your mirrors, etc.. Then retry. It's good practice to emerge rsync daily.

There is nothing wrong with extracting audio from CDs you have purchased, this is called "fair use".

you can't backup mp3s to your hard drive, a BIG downside. Personally i prefer ephpod, it seems to offer much more control.
