Another factor is the amount of people, especially around the Tenderloin, who cross the street without apparent regard for anything. Obviously I've no hard statistics on this, but people who've driven in San Francisco know what I'm talking about.
I know you can't embed fonts in HTML, that's why it gives you the option of choosing different fonts. If you can't make a layout work with standard fonts you're not much of a designer. And, um, why would you publish data in an HTML5 video?
HTML is a great middle ground. By following XHTML rules and combining it with CSS, you have a very parse-able document and can typeset it virtually any way you want. I've loved the PDF format since it was PostScript, since it can literally do anything involving typesetting or vectors, but trying to get data out of it sucks. It'd be great if adobe could somehow embed text data or XML into it, but I don't see that happening.
I can't speak so much about the Seattle area, but I've definitely seen it with execs in the Southern U.S. and in the San Francisco Bay Area, though not so much in geek circles. A former roommate and a relative of mine would go all the time as part of their corporate jobs; hell, they were even told to use some of their company-alloted budget to do it. Even at a small (20 employees) company my bosses would go and sometimes take clients during lunch or at the end of a day.
Strange how people love to refer to the special effects on Babylon 5. They were pretty horrid. I could never make it through a show because I was so distracted by them. Star Trek TNG and DS9 did CGI much better, albeit a little later.
Going further, a youth that has been sexually assaulted will often grow up and sexually assault several youths. And the cycle would continue. Murder obviously would not have this effect.
This would result in semmingly randomly sized widgets and incredibly poor font rendering.
I'd mod your comment insightful, but you don't explain why. Window managers would have to work significantly differently from how they currently work. Window managers typically can only display fonts at fixed point sizes (9,12,14,24), and all window elements are at a fixed resolution.
Here's how scaling a window would appear: User interface widgets (close boxes, scroll arrows, etc.) would become blurry and/or pixelated as they scaled up, and onscreen fonts would jump in incremental sizes, so that what you print would not match what you see. This is an unfortunate consequence of raster-based display rendering. This gets even worse when you have a bunch of windows of different sizes and differing legibility onscreen at the same time.
To get what you would want, window managers would need to become vector-based (like graphics in Illustrator or Flash). I'm not anything like a real programmer, but I imagine that making X vector-based would not be easy in the least.
Well, now I'm a convert. You've every right to be proud of SketchBook, it's the most impressive design app I've seen since Painter first came out. Anyone reading this who has a drawing tablet (yes, both of you) MUST get this program. In fact, anyone who wants a fantastic example of interface design MUST get this program.
Also, a fair amount of suggestions are horribly short sighted, or uninformed.
That's fine, but let employees know *why* the suggestion is shortsighted or uninformed. Don't just nod politely and say, "Uh-huh", then leave a subordinate wondering where their suggestion went.
Maybe the movie will be good, maybe it won't, but at least give it a friggin' chance!
I lean towards the movie being good, and here's why: everything that's officially Evangelion-related thus far has been awesome. If you've picked up the manga, it's a retelling of Evangelion's story that is just as compelling as the original, despite the fact that they change some of the plot.
"But that's Japanese! Americans and foreigners have no idea how to make a good adaptation!" You might say. That isn't always accurate, and I can think of numerous examples, too many to name here. Plus, Studio Gainax is creatively involved. Perhaps not director Hideki Anno, but he wasn't involved in said manga, either.
I can't believe some of these other complaints: if they want to make any money at all, they can't make all of the characters or the setting Japanese. Preview audiences would see that and believe that Evangelion was a bad Godzilla rip-off and not give it a second thought.
As for the costume designs, I'm personally relieved they are remarkably close to the original, and not black leather dominatrix rip-offs. As another here has said, no woman with internal organs is going to have the proportions of an anime character.
Regarding the "Waterworld" futuristic design, remember that in the storyline, Antartica was blown up. I like the concept; This is a realistic city, not some "designer's utopia", that has been flooded by water.
While these pics have little bearing on plot, from a design standpoint, these are awesome designs and remarkably close to the original. Be thankful for that.
Probably a good benchmark. If you are at an event where scantily clad men aren't appropriate, then don't have scantily clad women there either.
Without an actual counter-argument you realize that it's more likely that your post will be modded "troll", right?

Please don't add native PDF support. Feeping creaturitis is never the answer.
No, no, no. Apple ported Multifinder!
I blame Microsoft. Microsoft did come out with a PowerPC version of Windows and then stopped supporting it.

I wonder if SVG might work well.
Hm. Depends on the girl. My girlfriend complains that I don't go to strip clubs and buy her lapdances.

Why don't they just turn up the resolution like on CSI?

What is this "dating" of which you speak?
Seriously, guys (and gals?), be careful out there. My 250-pound ex wants me to do a little Photoshop work on her pic.

Hmmm...

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.
Who?
Imagine what they'll do with your girlfriend.
Wait... What if one IS your girlfriend!
No, I don't have any affiliation with Alias.

Let us know. We're big boys. We can take it.

Social responsibility will never be as fun as self-serving opportunism.
