  1. Not the only reason on Larry Page: You Worry Too Much About Medical Privacy · · Score: 1

Employers may not hire you if they think you will be sick a lot or may not survive long enough to pay for your training. Random people will shun you if they know you are HIV positive or schizophrenic even if there is no rational reason for their behavior. Few people will knowingly dance with a transsexual at a party. I say Larry Page is overstating how much we should worry about Google's business model. Opt- in web crawling by at least the big search engines visited by most people would do both individuals and content-based businesses lots of good.

  2. Responsibility on Ask Slashdot: Becoming a Programmer At 40? · · Score: 1

Well one thing wrong is that humans have been eating non-engineered plants for thousands of years with no ill effects, and where there have been ill effects either plants or sensitive humans involved have been purged from gene pool.

The same can not be said for a newly engineered plant enhanced with genes from harmful bacteria to kill insects that are trying to munch them.

Monsanto will have no more claims against farmers who want to save and replant seeds as their product by definition is not capable of doing that. Organic farmers and wild plants are protected from contamination. And anyone who wants to plant commercial seeds and play by the rules doesn't lose anything.

I say mandate that bioengineered plants be made sterile.

Real world code is great because it works, solve a problem and puts food on the table of company's employees. If it becomes so successful that the problems are noticeable, then there is enough funding to write version 2.0. Nobody is telling you have to stop with that of course. LunchBox is a good all around puzzle game.
