I believe the problem with nuclear power has a lot more to do with disposal and storage than with the safety of the reactor. Plus if the CO2 emissions are centralized at power stations rather than spread across the entire country (as is the case with cars) emission reduction techniques will probably be a lot easier.

I think the real point of the article was a few paragraphs in when Murphy said that "You simply don't know what the patches are for. It's virtually impossible to make a determination about a deployment time frame if not deploying a patch has the potential to place you at an additional, unknown risk."

One of my favorite things about open-source systems like Redhat's RHN up2date is that you know exactly what a patch will effect and what code it will be changing. An update to the kernel, or to an individual program, will have a description of what it does, and in may cases a list of files that it will modify/replace.

I can see how microsoft could be more open about what specifically a patch does, but without making the patches open-sourced I don't see how they will ever be able to match Linux's level.

I have recently had a lot of experience trying to install Oracle 9i on linux. The installer is broken in multiple places, and the only way to get it to install is to buy an Oracle support contract (there are specific "coyprighted" scripts that can not be found on the web). Even after you buy the contract, you have to go through several permutations of apply this patch, run this script... to get it to work. Once working the database becomes a resource hog, and seems to break quite often when I am applying system updates. Trying to move database tables from one server to another is also a major pain in the ass (although it could just be that MySQL is very easy) I can not think of anything short of a gun to the head that could convince me to try installing oracle on linux again.

Everyone keeps saying the iPOD holds more music, has better battery life. I don't seem them competing. Maybe it's just me. The limitations of satellite radio mean you have to have an antenna and specialized hardware that sucks the juice down. But you get a 2,000,000 song library... I like not having to cue up playlists
I have to take exception here. First, the iPod has a spinning harddrive to power, has to decode mucic files, and then has to store them in ram. All of these actions also require power. Furthermore, you do not get a 2,000,000 song library in the true sense. You get a kind of serial library where you can choose among a few stations that play a particular type of music you are looking for. That is the definition of a playlist. Imho the radio is worse than a playlist because you can not skip a song that you do not like or pause a song that you do like to take a phone call. Also (and I could be wrong on this one) many of the XM stations have commercials, and only a few are commercial free.
Did I mention the talk radio and the ACC/Big 10/Pac-10 games?

And iPod does not? Last I checked iPod has brick, parachute, solitaire, and you can download text games on from the internet.
Finally, to the editors, stop knocking XM an satellite radio. Half the satellite radio stories seem to denounce it somehow. The AP review doesn't really say anything bad about it. Some of you that knock satellite radio need to try it before worshiping your iPOD again.
You just contradicted yourself in the same paragraph. Also, its ok to admit that Apple made a good product. I like Slackeware more than BSD. Just because I think Slackware is a better product does not mean that I "worship" it!
