    Unbuntu family of distros os fine for home, but if you run it on servers, please remember you are basically running a mix if testing and unstable (debian) as a dependable server. People with a clue run something more mature as dependable servers. Need bleeding edge? compile it on your tried and true platform and know what you are doing.

    1st gen atom netbook with GMA945 here, I can play most but the latest 3D games on it. I would probably better served with an A15, but it did not existed then, and serve me well today. Try Warzone 2100, really cool game. Crysis is a no touch, but im not in ghe demographic anyway. A while world exist outside your basement... just sayin'!

    Imax is/was shot in 72 mm, with rolls on the horizontal... massive film image area, plus the rolls weight a ton and a half!

    Even Windows don't read 8GB of data on boot. My Linux boot in no time on an old 5400 RPM drive. Blame software bloat, not hardware.

    TightVNC on linux creates a headless X server that handles the API directly and is quite efficient. I just found it a bit unstable when doing intensive work on it, like flash games or virtualbox VM...

    I dont see Surface RT as progress... obviously I am not alone. Also, the power in computers has been more than adequate for many years now, it is well known. Also, I will buy unlocked obsolete hardware before I enter the garden anytime. Now this is my opinion, and represents my needs. Nowhere I pretended my opinion represented a comprehensive industry-wide survey. But again, many people seems to agree with my by voting with their wallet.
