Its crazy to think a proprietary systems maker would consider GNU/Linux - hahaha!!!

That said it would be nice for Microsoft to release a POSIX/UNIX system because these systems have proven to work excellently and GNU/Linux needs some real competition. NT is OK but its not as easy to fix when things go horribly wrong, isnt as easy to develop and the GNU/Linux system will soon be as simple to administer *if it isnt already* as NT.

Perhaps MS would buy Mandrake as they both give the exact same experience to the user? Theyd probably have a lot of work to do making it proprietary though *or maybe they could just slip MS Office into MS Office Linux*. ;)

Things which are part of the Public Domain are not crap alot of times IMO. Mozarts' compositions are PD works and are known as great works of art which should be shared for others to enjoy.

Theres tonnes of computer program code around that is excellent and in the PD also. Im pretty sure Kermit (an old BBS protocol) is PD and I used to program with it without needing license for the right to use it.

Theres tonnes of great works of art or science in the PD but I am only defending the quality of these couple of things. Hearing Mozarts music in a game one day made me appreciate his music and being allowed to use Kermit made me appreciate the PD.

Art wants to be shared. :)

Nice book - I have the old edition of C: How to program and think its really informative. I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn C/C++ since it was the first one I understood. I never done the simpletron but I enjoyed that chapter *made me reminisce about my C64* and the book is just as good for reference purposes as it is for education.

Most people say K&R The C Programming Language but I dont like their programming style so have never read it.

Heh, The Art of Computer Programming is probably a good book(s) to get also *maybe OTT for someone who isnt a hardcore programmer though* - especially the algorithms one. Donald Knuth could teach a thing or two about writing demos *he probably thinks in machine code*! :P

Im a fan of GTK+ but I would never think about doing decent demos with it so you could have left that opinion out *GDK/Xlib isnt very easy also*. :P

SDL would be really good for C but its alot cooler to do things with machine code *or some sort of assembly - even C and inline assembly* IMO as you can break limits by directly manipulating memory. The Linux FrameBuffer would be very interesting.

If you are a hardcore assembly and PC nut then all of the above are probably boring - MenuetOS probably needs some graphics routines added. ;P

BTW, I wouldnt rule 4G languages out as some of the flash demos floating around are really nice although youd probably need a recent computer to run them nicely.

Leechers waste my bandwidth and pressure ISPs to block/filter ports and increase service prices so its good to see the ISP taking action against them. Although, blocking ports is heavy-handed and users should be allowed to break contract and get their installation money back IMO.
