    No, MS used corrupt politicians and bribes in the form of campaign contributions. The japanese are very clear that the government and buisness work together. Japan is the only successful communist country. (Communism does not actually imply totalitarianism).

    pigs use lasers now. 99% of the time you detect them right as you get tagged. It doesn't spread like radar. Laser detectors only save you in heavy traffic where the laser will be reflected off whoever just got tagged, but speedtraps aren't in areas with heavy trafiic.

    the automaker's lobby has no power. None at all. the federal government can pass laws telling them how to build cars and nothing is done. The gov refuses to put tariffs on cars made in countries where the gov bends over to help the automotive industry (Japan, Korea, and to a lesser extent Germany).

    those are also the same sort of people that forget passwords, so they're safe. If you had to enter a password in the outlook box, viruses wouldn't spread as fast.

    People won't go around cracking AAC files like mad. If they want illegal copies, they'll just dl them off Soulseek. It's not liek you can't already get everything free already. the only use for this is to play legally purchased music outside of itunes.iPod.

    Humans can anticipate. Cars cannot. Case in point: the automatic transmission. Try merging onto the interstate with a short merging lane while going uphill with an auto and see how fun it is.

    Why are Saturn's dark spot, Jupiter's Great Red Spot, El Nino, etc., all in the southern hemishperes of their respective planets? It really dosn't make sense.

    I'm all in favor of this. The US hass way more international support than it deserves. maybe this will wake up the rest of the world. I just hope that the rest of the world will forgive us if we ever return to a more reasonable government.

    You can't half-ass a mac app and hope to succede. They would have to redesign the entire app to make it fit the apple UI guidelines or no mac users would buy it. For a linux version, they can just whip up some shit based either on the windows version or the old motif version. I don't think that will work either, but it'll work better than a half-assed mac version.

    Or you could run an x server without aqua and your wm of choice.

    I've been using osx recently and i have to say i love it. I can have the elegance of aqua right alongside more traditional oss apps. If only MythTV worked in osx, it would be perfect. The OSS community could do to follow the apple UI guidelines (with obvious changes[1]).

    [1] for example, there is no standard for a Save, Don't Save, Cancel dialog anywhere but osx, so use a pre traditional Y/N/C dialox in gtk.

    my commute is over 25 miles one way, with an average rush-hour time of 40 minutes by freeway.

    40 mins is nothing. Try living in the Atlanta suburbs. 2 hours one way is nothing. If i lived out there i'd shoot myself.

    Walking won't work in cities (like ATL) with massive urban sprawl. In places like NYC, though walking + subway is already a major method of transportation.

    thanks to eyeTV i watch every episode of the Simpsons, South Park, Chapelle's show, John Henson project, and The Man's Show that airs. the only thing i watch live is sports, though.

    also, the days for gentoo thing is a myth. I can build a fully working gentoo system (with xdirectfb, flux, e, firefox, and gaim) on a K6-333 Compaq laptop in under 7 hours.

    count me in. By OS 9 mac os was just so messy since it had so much crap tacked on to the original gui style. OSX is sweet and i use a G5 as my primary com now. I love it.

    Chill dude. Google is in a tough position to fight page rank spammers since they are the only search engine worth optimizing for these days. And personalized is still in pretty early beta so it prolly will support safari when it goes gold.
