Um.. a probability indeed exists for photons to deviate from a straight line path. This is the central tenet of Quantum Electrodynamics. Obviously, the reason we think light travels in a straight path is because overwhelmingly photons portray that behavior. On the level of quanta, though, they travel whichever way they damn well please. I hightly recommend reading QED by Nobel winner Richard Feynman.
Well, actually.. it's the first step towards bringing Mark Danielewski's novel, _House of Leaves_, to life. Pretty soon they'll find a way for houses to be bigger on the inside than they are on the outside.

I wouldn't say that big corporations simply aren't using Linux on the desktop. Dreamworks and, recently, Disney are using Linux desktops for their animation. It's a niche thing, yes, but it shows that Linux *can* infiltrate the large corporations.
So, there goes that silly export fraud claim..
