My desktop is almost 2 meters long and 1 meter front to back. It holds a 24.1" LCD and a 17" CRT (G4 is underneath), an iBook along with a set of speakers and subwoofer. You can also find the normal suite of accessories, external harddrives, digital cameras, hubs, coffee mugs, remote controls, shrunken head pencil holders, etc.
I seriously doubt all this stuff can fit on top of a laptop, no matter that it is 64-bit. Besides, I can get a new, larger desk if I need, it for a lot less than the price these things are liable to bring.
You guys are pulling my leg, right? Right? sheesh...
...as goes California, so goes the nation. Smog laws; consumer protection laws, etc. Not always, but usually. Too bad CA can't stop shooting itself in the foot when it comes to business and health care.
A paper trail is just a sanity check, and a completely reasonable way of keeping things in line.
The one you get back will have the rear/chrome engraved cover swapped onto it...takes only a few minutes, but requires manual processing and thus take a few more days overall. This does take you out of the running for a chance at getting a newer/better model, however.
There have been many of these stories in the past few years. Mostly out of Vegas, yes. Seems there is a rather 'quiet' tech revolution going on, driven by tons of money and 'out of the box' needs.
As an example, the taxi companies monitor each other's phones and poach clients needing a cab. Sounds simple, but the timing involved would put a shuttle launch to shame:)
Don't get me wrong....there's nothing glam about it. The crime/drug/prostitution/money laundering that masks the real victimization has zero redeeming status.
My original point was that the $300.00 for a SqzBox is too much for what you get, as clearly demonstrated by any metric (not that a portable anything was a direct and/or better purchase). Focusing on 'portable' misses the point:)
And... if what you really want is networked music, or your digital tunes on your home theater/stereo, there are better choices...for less money, w/same or fewer features, and some for more, with significant additional features. Budget-up or budget-down is a choice left to the individual.
A Keyspan remote works with iTunes just fine, by the way. The iPod has a wired remote.
There are many, many ways to pipe your music off your computer. If you have $300 to spend, you can do better than a SqzBox. Spend $200 less and get the same, or spend the same and get more or spend more and get lots more.

Anyone comparing a discman to an iPod is missing the point completely.
An iPod is not just a portable music player. An iPod is not just a portable HD...an iPod is not just....those of us who own one (or more) have discovered what many others seem to miss.
Not my problem if you don't have the budget for one of the most successful products in recent history.

And if it weren't for NDA's, I could say more about how a certain large tech company (Samsung) is helping. I can at least point out that the new south Korean govt. has as it's IT Chief, the past and very successful Samsung President, Daeje Chin.
The country also is working to have full nationwide wireless network coverage by the end of next year. Cell phones can hop on when they can't make a decent connection, and computers can hop onto the cell net when a wireless access point isn't available. Right now, it's working and free in many locations, such as the new airport.
Employee morale?

Not likely. That's why those millions were spent, to shore up against these 'small time' events... A month from now, this will be dust on the dormer and Apple will still be reaping positive karma off iPod Christmas commercials.
Sears Network Division Headquarters today announced a ban on all older 32 bit based computers on their internal network due to contributed slowdowns data throughput issues and overall drains on employee production.

OTOH, I'd be willing to bet this 'crack' came as a result of insider help. Information, after all, wants to be free...

Instead of placing the floor above the cut-outs, they should have installed it lower, and used them for air and filtration....maybe next time.
It hasn't happened yet...just keep watching. Have another Oreo.

Otherwise, there are commercial choices from Philips, HP, Sony, Kenwood, Hauppauge ($100) and Turtle Beach ($300).
Sony has already stopped producing CRT computer monitors. Samsung and Philips will follow before the end of 2004.
The end is very near indeed. Plan now while you still have control over your budget.
Oh, and color matching....real shops use actual samples, not 'on screen' permutations. That is why the 'better than' debate is quite bogus.
Ah, namecalling...how mature. yawn...
