Though it still doesn't cover the NEC 35x0 line of burners I have (I have the 3520, 3540, and the 3550), it's still much better than just 4 burners from 3 companies.
CDRInfo also has an article that covers burner and media reliability.
In their tests, the Pioneer was the most compatible with various media (which I agree with though Pioneer's tend to be pricey). The next one in line was the NEC and we all know that the NEC's are very affordable and you get the a lot of bang for your buck. (Pioneer gets you the most bang but u also need more buck too).

but there's a reason why they have "anti-competitive/anti-trust" laws on the books.

not to grill you but Verizon didn't make the phone...motorola did.
And not only that, "NOT buying" would be an option if this "feature" was disclosed before purchase. Not all corporations will disclose such "limitations" as they believe the consumer need not know (if they did, they wouldn't buy it). It's too bad they don't have laws on the books that really grill companies for anti-competitive "features" like "unauthorized accessory" blocks.

then again, I thought lexmark/HP/etc. lost a generic cartridge case, so there's precedence.

anyways....just grinding an axe out of my 2 pennies.

o...as for "funding R&D" and compatibility....well...that's why there's an ISO and other standards organizations. By defining a standard and adhering to it, one can reduce the cost of R&D and getting a particular product compatible with others. Of course, making it compatible and then adding a few minor "fixes" to limit compatibility is VERY anti-innovative and anti-competitive. Even stupid if the device you are making "incompatible" is your own device.

One benefit that SATA does have over SCSI is the cabling....it's smaller and blocks less airflow (and easier to do the cabling).

SCSI on the other had has other benefits....like it's used in enterprise servers now. Faster, daisy-chained, more RAID options, etc.

Of course, Fibre Channel is basically SCSI on steroids and has the cabling benefits that SATA has.

With more room thanks to less data cabling, u can add watercooling to reduce the heat generated by the 15k+ rpm drives.

I dunno if Buffalo sells it empty so you can use your own drives like the 500GB Seagate (the ones in it are 250GB WD's).
