Yeah, I bet you must feel really sorry for poor little Sony. Big bad Microsoft has soooo much more money then Sony. Sony are just the little guy trying to make an honest buck.

Jeez, open your eyes people, Sony has much more of a monopoly over Joe Public's possesions than MS do. Sony can piss money away on a loss leader just as well as Microsoft can.

Oh, I'm sure there's some sweet chips in that big beige box, but I was really expecting to see something that caught my eye, in the same way that an iMac (or even one of the beefier macs) does.

But no, it looks like a PC. And if it looks like a PC, then people are going to think it is a PC. That just puts one more misunderstanding for non-geeks thinking of getting a new bit of kit.

(This is not flamebait; I just want to show that you don't need plain black to be fast).

I use Windows 2000. My desktop is a mess of icons. I don't look at them, and I don't click on them either. I just hit Windows-D, type in the first couple of characters for the one I want, and press return.

For example, "i" launches Internet Exploer, "ou" launches Outlook, "ba" launches bash in cygwin, "v" launches vi... you get the picture. This has the advantage that anybody else can still use the computer.

For example, to type an email, I would do the following:

    Windows-D
    o (return)
    CTRL-n
    (to)
    tab tab
    (subject)
    tab
    (content)
    CTRL-enter

... and the email is sent.

Command lines are all good and well, and I love bash to death, but don't knock GUIs if you're just using them wrong.

In the few months I've been using p2p socftware, my CD collection has doubled. The CD's I'm buying now are stuff that I've always been looking for, but could never previously find..

Some albums I've bought after downloading them:

    • Goldfrapp; felt mountain
    • Handsome boy modelling school
    • Dr. Octagon
    • NIN; downward Spiral.
    • Jill Scott
    • Spoooks; S.I.O.S.O.S
    • Roots Manuva
    • etc.

You would never hear any of those on mainstream radio. Thanks to p2p, I have discovered them, bought them, and hopefully given the artists some royalties.
