    It's charming to see people coming up with Open Source voting and other governmental tools, but extremely naive to think that they'll ever be implemented.

    Well, if users could verify that their vote was accurately counted, doesn't that kind of undermine the purpose of staging an election?

    I tried OS X for a few months before putting linux on my ibook. The unintuitive user interface and difficulty installing software eventually got on my nerves, which is why I went to Linux.

    Once I see and read the reviews of the next OS X it may be time to make that jump to all laptop.
    Why not just buy the macbook and load linux onto it? Is that somehow different from buying a Windows laptop and loading linux onto that?

    Only about 16 percent of all projects were completely successful: delivering applications on time, within budget and with all the originally specified features.

    I have to feel that this number would be much higher if project managers would just learn to allocate an infinite budget and an unlimited timeframe.

    My favorite errata in the list is AI22, Sequential Code Fetch to Non-canonical Address May have Nondeterministic Results. Basically the chip decides that all of the high oreder bits should be '1', instead of '0' - for no apparent reason as its not consistent.


    That's not a bug. It's a cryptographically secure random number generator!

    Well, the schedule itself is a list of facts and not subject to copyright. The episode descriptions can be copyrighted and it might be hard to claim "fair use" on them. However, the descriptions could be easily replaced.

    Isn't there any way to obtain this information in an "open-source" manner?
    The best possible "open source" solution would be to create some sort of wiki for tv listing data.

    In other cases, computer workstations in the Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration were infected with malicious software detected trying to communicate with outsiders; laptops were discovered missing; and agency Web sites suffered break-ins.
    I'll admit that "discovered missing" was probably a poor choice of words, but the article pretty clearly states that there were lost laptops.

    What amuses me is that they've asked the trolls to identify themselves by e-mailing their contact information to the lawyer representing the plaintiff. This seems like the perfect opportunity to defame even more people...

    So they can locate fake currency floating in the wild and hopefully trace it back to its source.
    This works with money because it is circulated. Once bound to a host, vista cannot be reused.

    Watermarks such as this are designed to prevent counterfeits, not piracy.
    I have to wonder how many people will unknowingly buy a counterfeit version of windows. And how many that do are actually going to inspect their DVD for a 1mm image.

    This museum does not reflect the beliefs of all young earth creationists! It actually makes the absurd suggestion that Dinosaurs were allowed on Noah's Ark. If that were true, there would still be Dinosaurs today! Not to mention, it goes against the bible which clearly states that only 2 of every land vertibrate were allowed on the ark.

    This museum was built by godless atheists who want to profit from true believers!

    Air actually tends to have more resistance than copper.

    This is an open source, Java-based MapReduce implementation

    It amazes me that someone would implement map-reduce in a programming language that doesn't have a built-in implementation of map or reduce.
