This was not the state doing the searching it was private individual and in most states and under federal law I it perfectly legal to use information that they obtained. There have been a few cases where the private individual talked to the police and the police set up the equipment and trained the person, in thoses cases courts have ruled that the individual was acting for the police and a search warrant was needed.
If you break into someones house and see something illegal you can report it to the police and they will beable to use it, however in that case and with the cracker above you will still be guilty of another crime. In this case he is guilt of a crime but would not count on any district attorney bring the charges against him, based on what he did, that he is in a forgein country and who was caught it is probably an un winnable case.

It would also accept that the mistake was done on purpose if they they had double shipped items and then required that you pay for it or pay for the shipping back to the company.

Not sure how the video system would work but I have access to two library that have audio book system similar to it. You can go to the library web site enter your library ID/passwprd and then download audio books with DRM which expire in 2-3 weeks. Both libraries use the same company(you get redirect to the main site after authentication) from there each library sets which kinds of books they allow to be checked out and how many copies of each audio book they have "purchased" for their patrons.

This is not a national drivers license. It just tell the states what they need to collect and how it should be displayed. You would still have to get a new drivers license whenever you move to a new state.
As it is now whenever you move to a new state you are required to get a new drivers licenses, usally within 30 days of moving. The states handle who is authorized to have a drivers licenses(include at what age you are allowed to start driving), some allow anyone working in the state to get one (legal or illegally in the country) figuring it is better to have people who have gone through the training. There are a many items which are standard(picture,it contains your address, which type of vehicles you can drive, etc) but the location and format is not.
As for SSN legally places are forbidden to ask for it unless they have a financial need aka they report transactions to the federal or state tax services. The closest thing right now would be the passport however alot of places will not accept that as identification but the information is stored at the federal level.
Some of the biggest arguments against it is that it will cost the states alot of change all their systems and to re-issue all the licenses. Not to mention that there will be a single database containing all this information.

However you could possibly sue them if they broke the employee handbook, that is generally considered a contract and breaking that has lead to million dollar lawsuits. However most companies settle out of court because of the bad press relations with future employees; how would you feel if when researching a company you find a message about that company firing people when they have given thier leave notice? When companies don't want soon to be former employees hanging around they normally just pay them the money for the remaining weeks and escort them out the door.

As for the lawsuit, time to hire a lawyer. Unless you were some grand person in thier company they probably don't have much of a recourse. You should get a lawyer and see if in Texas you can sue the other company for preventing you from performing in another job and see if filing for unemployment will hurt your case(it may strengthen it since confirms with an outside source that they fired you).

There is no law in all but a handfull of US state preventing them from firing you the moment you walk in the door or even right after you have signed the paper work to start working with them and just told your former employer you are leaving. Almost everyone works under "work at will" which means they can fire you at any time and you can leave at any time. Most employment contracts will mention that you are a work at will person.
Now you can usally get some money from the company if during the firing they broke the rules outlined in there employee handbook, most recent lawsuits in this area have awarded in the 1 million range for stuff.
Where you also see lawsuits is in the case when you moved for the job and then were fired, told you did not have the job once you showed up, or other situations where you payed money and had a hardship(moving) to get the job and had confirmation that you were starting the job. There are plenty cases of this(this is what happened to me) and courts have treated it like the work at will but have awarded money to cover costs like the move, but not lost salary. Pennselvania has a law which allows punnative damages; otherwise your only change of getting money above the move, some court costs, etc is if the employee handbook has been violated.
