    what really matters is profits, and given that fact, all they care about is marketing and how to get leverage against their customers to charge them more. this is far more important to the bottom line than the happiness of the customers. in the short run, customer happiness does not matter. if you think that AT&T is forgoing the short term importance of stockholder profits, and instead focusing on long term customer happiness, which does not guarantee more profit given a very competitive market, then you are living in a dream world.

    By design, KDE-windows does not provide the full-blown KDE desktop, thus no KWin composite manager, KDE-specific "start" menus, Plasma desktop, etc.

    i totally agree. the first thing I noticed when reading this was the lie that "they care about what the customer thinks." . we all know they only care about profits and methods of getting leverage to raise fees.

    you can believe what this guy is saying in the interview. they dont actually consider "what the customer thinks" . the only thing that really matters is how they can get enough leverage to raise fees. they will figure out how to do it eventually and bit torrent users will lose out. its only a matter of time. one thing is for sure, you cant expect the AT&T spokesman to come out and say the truth, which is that " profits matter more than the customers".

    the obvious answer is Phone DSL vs. Cable vs. Sattelite/Cellular. those are the competitors for residential service.

    #1 : this idea you have of a "business class connection" is from the stone age. its from back in the 90's when people would order ISDN . these days EVERY home computer should have full server connectivity. this is the modern age and if Comcast tries to create it into a separate product then they will lose to the competition...

    You have a very good point there. Whatever wiped out the dinosaurs was able to do so on land and also in the sea. I think that in the time of dinosaurs the amount of oxygen in the air was higher and enabled super large insects and dinosaurs and sea creatures. A change in temperature due to a asteroid impact could have lowered the amount of oxygen in the air and killed off all the large animals, large insects, and much of the marine life that relied on oxygenated water.

    why in the world would anyone want a browser that refuses to render incorrect code? it would be far better if a browser gives you a safe-mode version of the page and also warns you about the incorrect code.

    there is a difference between a patent of a "visual representation of voicemail", which is the most ubiquitous form of this type of patent (http://www.google.com/patents?id=iPAoAAAAEBAJ&dq=5572576) and the kind that you describe , verses a patent of a "voice mail containing visual elements", which is what I was trying to describe. in any case, you are right, this case applies to the former, and by that count I am incorrect.

    Well, there is no such thing as 'visual' voice mail. anyone who speaks english knows that. I would file a new patent called "visual picture mail" and then you would have a real patent in your hands.

    Sorry, but there is NO SUCH THING as "visual" voice-mail. The words "visual" and "voice" are unrelated. i would throw this patent out on the basis that the patent lawyers dont understand the english language.

    The reason they cant spend the money on space missions, health care, or social security is because if they spend the money domestically, the money will get respent and cause inflation due to the money supply increasing. They prefer to "burn" money on wars because the effects of spending money abroad take many years to be realized domestically. They are trying to hide inflation from us because if we saw how bad things were, we would all bark loudly.

    nope. it would have to alter, damage, or destroy.

    since the packet being sent is merely temporarily telling the network adaptor to stop, then its not altering, damaging, or destroying a network.

    without knowing "something/anything" about the packet I am looking for, that would be difficult because:

    1. if I trace everything, the ethereal trace file will grow to giant proportions, threatening the performance of my comptuer
    2. if i trace everything and limit the log file, then if I check the log at any one particular time, there is a chance that I will miss the packet that I am looking for, whatever it may be.
    3. if I knew something about what i was looking for, i could make an ethereal rule to look for it and trace to my hearts content.

    Actually an email client is not a server. "Ping", on the other hand, is a server, and so is Microsoft-DS, RPC Locator Service, Google Desktop Search, and NetBIOS Session Service.

    I was wondering if there is any way for me to log these TCP reset requests.

    Can anyone suggest a method to do so or show me what a TCP reset request packet looks like?
