  10. law of demand says that $3 gas is not possible on $1/Gallon "Green Gasoline" In Sight · · Score: 1

The laws of demand in a open marketplace say that $3 gas is not possible, especially if politicians create any taxes on the fuel. Take Diesel fuel for example. Back in the mid-80's it used to be around 1/2 the price of regular gas but demand , caused by passenger cars being manufactured with diesel capability, caused the demand to be high enough that the prices equalized and today Diesel is the same price as regular gas. The same thing will happen with any green fuel. The same thing will happen with Hydrogen cars, etc. Your cost per mile will eventually equalize when the market matures for your fuel.

  11. Re:colony ships on Stephen Hawking Thinks Aliens Likely · · Score: 2, Interesting

You come really close to the answer here. The problem with your theory is 2 things: 1. Given the limitations of the speed of light, the only civilizations that would attempt star travel are ones that live a very long time (like 1000+ years). This sorta rules out biological life. I personally think that only silicon based computer life would live long enough for star travel. 2. If a computerized life were to develop, they obviously dont need to find food or space because they could get all their energy from their star. And so, if they needed to colonize another star, they would seek out planets with good solar energy prospects, whos temperature falls into a range that supports their circutry. They wouldn't necessarily be looking for an earthlike planet.

ok, so your saying that Amazon can make an easier profit, but that is not the point of this thread. The point of this thread is that the wholesale costs are certainly below $10 and so if WalMart is dumping CD's its only going to hurt them because it seems to be one of the products that they can re-sell well above wholesale cost. Selling CDs wont hurt them, especially if they can get $12+ dollars out of them. They probably have plenty of other products in the store that they sell at an actual loss but CDs aren't one of them. The important fact here is that at $15.99, the price of a CD is significantly higher than its wholesale cost. CDs don't need to cost that much.
