  1. Big mistake: radiohead site doesnt have bandwidth on Radiohead Says Name Your Own Price for New Album · · Score: 2, Insightful

Well, if nobody can download the Radiohead album from anywhere except via BitTorrent then that kindof kills there business model where the site was going to ask for a donation.

If people download the album from another place they aren't going to see any donations.

They need to get their site fixed so that it is no longer getting slashdotted or else they areen't going to prove anything.

  5. Re:the secret to cheap programming on Hiring Programmers and The High Cost of Low Quality · · Score: 1

good point but there is a difference between programming "artistically" verses programming "procedurally". i think that if a complex problem is just a bunch of procedures that it would be possible for a group of persons to create something more complicated than a single person ever could create.

the main difference is that artists solve a problem (or show an idea) by the quickest method possible; so quick a method in fact that we might call them a "magician" or "genius".

on the other hand, problems or ideas can also be discovered using brute force and a massive number of persons.

what i mean is that it is possible that 10 average intelligent persons working independently could accidentally discover something that a genius could figure out on their own. statistically, this could be probable enough to make it affordable.

  6. the secret to cheap programming on Hiring Programmers and The High Cost of Low Quality · · Score: 1

When someone truly figures out how to take a group of beginning programmers and make them able to create something that a complex single programmer could create, then that will be the end of high paying jobs for computer science. At that point, programming jobs will be kinda like jobs at Taco Bell.

If they can prove that the theatre actually let them walk into the theatre without warning them that the camera was illegal, then they might be able to prove that the theatre actually assisted them in filming the 20-second clip.

Also, if the theatre saw the camera, and then decided to follow them and check to see if they were using it in the theatre, you could almost say that they were trapped. If that was the case, they still saw the camera, let them pass the entryway and they still assisted in the filming.

  10. he is SOOO wrong on Elton John Says Internet is Destroying Music · · Score: 2, Interesting

I play a certain style of music, which up until the internet started, was very hard to access, since it is European, and in about 1998 the style exploded because of the internet. If it wasn't for the internet , in bringing a previously separated group of people together, this style of music, called Gypsy Jazz, which died in the late 50's, might never have re-emerged from the dark ages. Countless guitar players cite Django as an influence, especially once Django became popular.

  11. trying to drum up fear are you? on Web 2.0 Bubble May Be Worst Burst Yet · · Score: 1

The first think I thought when reading this article is that the author is just trying to drum up fear. What kind of person would create propaganda like this, knowing that many people will read it, and that many of those people might take it seriously?

There is absolutely not factual basis for the authors believe and I am surprised this garbage even got through moderators and made its way to the front page.

  12. Re:Illegal Immigration complicates the situation. on The Ultimate Identity Theft Prevention Plan · · Score: 1

Yes you can. All you do is get a Tax id number (ITIN) and on the form where it asks for your SSN, you put in that number. The bank wont be able to determine whether the number is SSN vs. ITIN. Both numbers are 9 digits. The only difference is that the ITIN starts with a "9" , which is the only way to tell. The bank will take your application, most likely NOT realize you used an ITIN, and accept you.

  13. Re:Illegal Immigration complicates the situation. on The Ultimate Identity Theft Prevention Plan · · Score: 1

This is slightly untrue. You actually do not need an SSN to get a bank account, a cell phone, or get into a hospital or school. So, your assumption that they have been using fake SSNs is wrong because in fact, they didn't need to give one in the first place.

  25. Console makers should charge more for 1st release on The Decline of the PS3 Grey Market · · Score: 1

When console makers release a game console, they should just charge higher until the demand drops. This way the console maker gets the extra cash and it can go toward getting us the next console faster. There is no reason for them to price low on the initial release and let scalpers profit unless they are trying to get their fans to generate hype for them, which is probably the case.

In the case of other electronics, like cell phones, the pricing schemes are always high at first and then prices slowly slide down.
