  1. Not Exactly on Vatican Rejects Intelligent Design? · · Score: 1

    Not quite.

The majority of Orthodox rabbis happen to support the fundamentalist position.

See "Mind over matter" a compendium of letters written by the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, who very definitevely stated that the Genesis account is absolutely literal with no possibility for evolution.

Besides which, I find it very amusing to see so many "open minded" people accepting the evolutionary dogma as holy scripture, without even bothering to consider the many flaws in the theory. I wonder how the people here would react if a new, better theory came up (which it undoubtedly will sooner or later, the current one is so pathetic).

  3. I think everyone is missing the point on Senator Carper Calls for Tax on Online Porn · · Score: 5, Insightful

This isn't about child pornography or porn in general. This is about taxing the internet.

Anyone with at least half a mind can see that the Senator couldn't care less about pornography or child porn for that matter.

Taxing an industry does nothing to regulate said industry, all it does is take money from it. If he wanted to regulate it, and pay for the regulation, then he'd attach fines to the laws. But the truth is, what he wants is an easy way to "break into" the internet industries.

These people tax us in everything we do. We have ONE industry taht is currently not taxed to death and beyond and that is the internet.

This is an excuse. He and his friends have to be stopped cold right here and now. Don't think that it's just him either. I'll bet you anything a bunch of his buddies got together and thought this would be a great way to start a new "cause" and thus manage to rip us off in the process.

We have to stop this guy now. Unless of course, you like the idea of your local congressman and senator mucking about in even this part of our lives.

  4. baloney on Dvorak Says Apple Move to Intel Will Harm Linux · · Score: 1

First off, people don't use the Mac just for the interface, they use it because of the hardware as well. The idea that Mac will be switching to intel chips will kill that. What's the point in buying a Mac if it isn't any faster or better than a normal PC? The interface is overrated. The latest Gnome and KDE desktops are just as good, better actually, because of the extensive customization available. What can I customize on a Mac? The wallpaper? Everything on a Mac is preset for you, and there is no changing anything. You buy what they want and use what they want. What sort of crap is "you will not be allowed to run Mac OS on a PC"? "Allowed"?? Don't overrate the threat - there isn't one. -ron

Consider that most of what comes out of hollywood is utter trash, and that the rest is of dubious if any quality. Consider further that the software and computer revolution is of paramount importance both to our freedom of expression and to our economies. Therefore, I'd rather see that entire industry shut down than have them mess with something that is actually useful to humanity. -ron

there's a site called magnatune.com - they let you download stuff and split the earnings 50-50 with the artists.

Look, as long as we prop up these evil companies then we are going to lose. Stop buying from them. Why let them choose what music you can listen to anyway?

This guy at least tries to explain his actions and you mess him up.

This is why companies don't give you any real access to speak to their higher ups. Don't explain anything unless it's in lawyer speak, etc. This is why we have so many ridiculous rules and regulations.

As for the rest, the truth is, all whining and bitching aside, most of the people here just want to be able to use stuff without paying for it. Basically you're thieves just like the corporate suits at the MPAA and RIAA. Both of you are out to rip off and screw whoever you can.

    Pathetic.

You have a point that there is an injustice done here. BUT - you MUST NOT say that the two are the same or even equivalent. There is a terrible danger in doing so. The same danger exists, (maybe worse I think) incidentally in overly praising everyone we meet. Truthfully, one can argue that the enormity of the abuse you referred to is a terrible thing. But we have to show the relative level of such things, I'm sure you already heard this and know it well. If you'd like to chat, feel free to drop me a line. later, -ron

On behalf of religious people everywhere I thank you for your comments.

There is no greater compliment than to be told that you (or your ideas) are "dangerous".

Yes we have "dangerous" ideas. It is "dangerous" to assume that we will all have to answer for our actions, "dangerous" to believe that all that exists, is but the thought of a creator. "dangerous" that we have an obligation to put our lives on the line for each other and family for more than just self-preservation.

It is further "dangerous" to society at large that there are men who believe that there are things for which they must be willing to surrender their lives, even their reputations.

An example of this "danger" would be the Abolitionists in Mass. who proposed secession in response to their perceived abuses from the south, did I mention that their "dangerous and subversive" activities stemmed from their religious belief?

Well, I applaud you for recognizing the "danger" that we of religion represent. Certainly a harmless atheist like yourself can be counted upon to determine such a thing.
